2018 ATV/UTV MOTOCROSS The following rules and regulations are solely applicable to Sturgis Off-Road Rally events. Please direct all questions and inquiries to Rally and Events. All decisions by Rally and Events are final. A. GENERAL: 1. Schedule: ATV/UTV Motocross will begin on Sunday, September 23, 2018 2:00 p.m. MST. On line registration will open June 1, 2018. Onsite registration begins at noon, Friday, September 21 st @ Jack Pine Gypsies Club House 1216 Short Track Rd., Sturgis 2. Race Length: The UTV heat races will be (5) laps starting at 2:00 pm, or as soon thereafter as possible. Championship finals will be 8 laps. Youth races will be 5 laps. 3. Minimum Age Requirement: UTV competitors must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the event. Youth racers must be 12-17 and parent or guardian must be on the grounds. 4. Drivers are responsible for the actions of their entire pit crew. 5. The City of Sturgis or the Jackpine Gypsies do not provide medical insurance for competitors, and we urge you not to compete without it. Medical insurance is the sole responsibility of the competitor.
B. MACHINE ELIGIBILITY AND CLASSIFICATION: 1. Production Rule: OEM motor and matching frame combination 4-wheel drive model required. Frame geometry must remain as designed by the OEM, including all suspension pivot points on the original equipment frame. All A-arm mounting points must remain in the stock location and position as delivered from the manufacturer, however they may be reinforced for strength. 2. UTV: (0-1000cc) UTV Production models, with matching OEM turbo and motor combination. Engine and suspension modifications permitted. Naturally Aspirated & GNCC approved Factory Installed (OEM) Turbochargers are permitted, along with OEM designed turbocharger upgrade systems available through OEM dealers, i.e., Yamaha GYTR turbo kit. 3. All other UTV Classes: (0-1000cc) UTV Production models. Engine and suspension modifications permitted. Turbo/superchargers are NOT permitted; Naturally Aspirated engines only. D. EQUIPMENT: 1. Machine Width: UTV machine width can be a maximum 64 inches (with 1 variance); 2. The following equipment is required for all machines: a. Full roll cage; b. Door panels and Window-nets of adequate design and size so as to prohibit extension of extremities (i.e., arm, hand, leg) beyond cab of vehicle; 3. The following gear is required for all competitors: a. Three-point harness restraints, securely fastened on driver at all times; b. Protective eyewear; c. Helmet d. gloves 4. All competitors with an assigned number must display their number on a number plate mounted on the rear of the machine.
5. All UTVs/ATVs must be street legal. 6. Combustible engines only. No nitrous oxide or alcohol-based fuel permitted. Petroleum-based fuel only may be used. Fuel can only be carried inside the machine's fuel tank and must be stored in approved containers. 7. Machines may be tested by officials any time prior to, during or after the event. E. REGISTRATION: 1. Pre-Entry closes midnight the Wednesday, September 19 th. All drivers must check-in at Registration race day from 11:00 a.m. 1:30 pm. 2. Teams must register for the race before operating their machine anywhere on the facility. Drivers may not exceed 5 mph when traveling to/from their pit area, and occupants must always wear a helmet. 3. Racers must be registered under the name of the Driver. The driver must be present at registration and sign all required forms and releases. F. START PROCEDURE: 1. Heats will consist of no more than 4 units; 2. Starts will be staggered. 3. Teams will be assigned a Start position in advance. Teams shall line up on their assigned position when directed by the race official. No one is permitted on the Start Line until authorized. 4. Drivers Meeting will be conducted on the Start Line before the start of each race. All competitors are responsible for attending. 5. Teams starting before the green signal will be penalized. G. THE COURSE: 1. A UTV course will generally be motocross tracks which in interlaced with a variety of terrain which can include jumps, deep tracks, hills, blind corners, etc. 2. The course will be marked with arrows.
3. Pre-race course inspection is available race day and the day prior to race day. Competitors are permitted to walk or bicycle the course only; Non-throttle pedal assist cycles are permissible for this purpose. 4. Marking, cutting, tampering with or otherwise changing the course in any manner is strictly prohibited. Course modifications may only be made by an official. 5. No one, except officials and drivers officially entered, may drive on the race course at any time during the event. H. ON TRACK REGULATIONS: 1. Machines must remain on the marked course. The marked course is within 25 feet of race arrows. However, machines must stay within the confines of the following markers: double arrows posted on both sides of the trail, ribbons, signs, stakes, hay bales, barrels, motocross track, grass track, etc.. 2. Teams encountering a traffic jam or bottleneck may go more than 25 feet off the course to get around the bottleneck only. However, the Team must re-enter the course as soon as possible, and upon approaching this section the next lap, must drive the original arrowed section if the track is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the Team must stay on the original marked course regardless. A "bottleneck" is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason, with the exception of checkpoints. 3. Machines may not cut to the inside of a corner marker. 4. If a machine leaves the course for any reason it must re-enter where it left the course. 5. Reckless Driving. No driver may operate his machine in such a manner as to endanger life or limb of other competitors, officials or the public. Drivers will be penalized for the reckless operation of their machine, including but not limited to the deliberate ramming, blocking or intentional contact with another Team, or for running into an official. Competitors are solely responsible for their own safety. 6. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Persons whose appearance, conduct, associations or affiliations, on or off the track, deemed harmful or not conducive to the best interest
of the sport or who exhibit conduct which is inappropriate, offensive, abrasive or in bad taste, may be excluded or suspended from the race at the discretion of the Race Director. I. RACE FINISHES: 1. The race officially ends for all contestants at the completion of the lap in which the checkered flag is displayed to the winner. 2. To be considered as having completed a lap, the driver and his machine must cross the plane of the checkered flag under the machine s unaided ability. 3. Towing is not allowed. Teams whose disabled vehicles are towed back to the pit area by staff or otherwise, for any reason, are not eligible to return to competition. Any laps earned by a Team that returns to competition after receiving a tow back to the pit area will be removed. If a Team desires to repair their machine and return to the competition, they must decline the offer to tow their vehicle back to the pit area. This rule does not apply to racers towed only a short distance in order to dislodge the vehicle from a track obstacle (i.e., mud pit, deep rut, ravine, etc.). 4. Teams will be scored in order of their finish time and number of laps completed. 5. Podium: The Top 3 Overall in each class will be recognized on the podium. 6. Penalties will be assessed at the discretion of the official based on the severity of the offense, and may include one or more of the following: position(s), time adjustment, disqualification, etc. 7. Prizes will be given to the top three winners in each class. Prize money will be given to the top three winners in the open class. J.
