Phase I - Proposed Roadway & Streetscape Improvements Adaptive Signals Next Generation Signalization Technology Used in other States for past 7-8 years. Due to success achieved, approved for use within Philadelphia area by PennDOT 5 years ago. How they work. Video cameras are used to measure both traffic volume and queue on each approach. Adaptive processor interfaces with existing traffic signal controller, and determines optimum timing for each intersection approach on a realtime basis.
Phase I - Proposed Roadway & Streetscape Improvements Why we want to use Adaptive Signals for City Avenue. Proven success in reducing delays and clearing queues. Acknowledges limited resources for capacity-adding projects over recent years. If capacity is needed, this technology will enhance the benefits provided. Ability to provide pedestrian friendly accommodations
