TRANSITIONS PROGRAM Newcastle Ballet Theatre s Transitions Program is a 1.5 or 2.5 days per week intensive training program. Though not required, the Saturday timetable is necessary if you wish to obtain the CUA30113 Certificate III in dance. For students attending the 1.5 days per week, we offer a Certificate of Attainment. For students wishing to attend the 2.5 days per week, we offer a CUA30113 Certificate III in Dance. This program is, in part, in conjunction with the Hunter School of Performing Arts. While HSPA students must be in Year 9 or 10, the NBT Transitions Program is open to Intermediate and Advanced dancers regardless of academic year, school, or studio affiliation. If your academic school requires more information regarding the structure of the Transitions Program, we will be happy to speak with them. Our Transitions Program aims to prepare students for Full Time Training, whilst also continuing with their schooling. With specialised dance and theory classes, as well as joining in with our Full Time program classes for two full days, students are challenged and able to gain a sense of what the next step in their training could be. Transitions timetable: Mondays : 1:30pm - 3.30pm Ballet and theory classes Wednesdays : 9am - 3.30pm Full Time Program classes, including Ballet, Pointe & Contemporary Optional Saturdays : 9.30-12pm Full Time Program classes including Ballet, Pointe, Pas de Deux & possible rehearsals On Wednesdays and Saturdays, Transitions dancers are completely integrated into our Certificate IV and Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) classes, helping them gain strength and experience, as well as first hand knowledge of what constitutes Full Time training. Who we are Newcastle Ballet Theatre provides excellence in classical ballet and contemporary dance. Founded in 2012, NBT s studio has already had acceptances and placements in some of the most prestigious schools and companies in Australia and Internationally. These institutions include The Australian Ballet School, the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet, Queensland Ballet Pre-Professional Year, Sydney Dance Company Pre-Professional Year, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Classique Ballet de Paris, Joffrey Ballet, Victorian State Ballet Pre-Professional program, Diploma program at Transit Dance, Elephant in the Black Box, Dargie Entertainment & Moulin Rouge. NBT s Full Time Program commenced in 2016. While focused on Classical training, teaching the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet Syllabus as well as Open classes, NBT s Full Time Program is extremely well rounded, with highly regarded faculty members in all areas of training. All of NBT s teachers are ex-professionals with substantial careers as professional dancers, and many years of teaching experience. NBT annually performs classical ballet productions, such as Cinderella, Paquita, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake Act II & The Sleeping Beauty. Facilities NBT offers purpose-built, spacious, and air-conditioned studios. Each studio features sprung wood floors, Harlequin tarkett Studio vinyl, mirrors and ballet barres, which are all of professional quality. In addition we have a smaller Tiny tots/warm-up/pilates studio. Protecting our dancers bodies is our top priority. Sprung wood floors and tarkett are forgiving to bodies, help reduce injuries, and are the safe alternative to the average dance floor. As our facility is located in Cardiff, we are easily accessible from the Macquarie Hills, Warners Bay, Glendale, Garden Suburb, Kotara, Cameron Park, Broadmeadow, Adamstown, Wallsend & Charlestown areas, as well as the Cardiff train station. Entry Requirements Each dancer will be assessed for the Transitions Program on an individual basis. The following requirements are simply a guide relating to auditions for the Transitions Program. CUA30113 Certificate III in Dance This Certificate is a wonderful introduction to more intensive vocational dance training. Structured with classical ballet as the focus, dancers will strengthen and improve their pointe work, partnering skills, and contemporary training, as well as learn repertoire and rehearse for and participate in two performances annually. The theory work associated with Certificate III in Dance begins to challenge younger dancers to look critically at their own artistry, and the needs of their bodies to perform at their highest possible level. Core Units CUACHR301 Develop basic dance composition skills CUADAN202 Incorporate artistic expression into basic dance performance CUADAN301 Integrate rhythm in dance or movement techniques CUAIND301 Work effectively in the creative arts industry CUAPRF307 Develop performance techniques. Elective Units CUADAN306 Increase depth of ballet dance technique CUADAN303 Develop dance partnering techniques CUADAN308 Increase depth of contemporary dance technique CUADLT301 Develop basic dance analysis skills CUAPRF304 Develop audition techniques CUAWHS201 Develop a basic level of physical conditioning for dance performances HLTAID003 Provide first aid CUAWHS301 Condition the body for dance performance. Completion of CUA30113 Certificate III in Dance Students wishing to complete the full CUA30113 Certificate III in Dance must attend all Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday classes. At the satisfactory completion of every CORE and ELECTIVE Unit, the dancer will be issued with a full CUA30113 Certificate III in Dance from Newcastle Ballet Theatre & ATOD. If any Units remain outstanding at the conclusion of the school year, the dancer will be issued a Statement of Attainment from ATOD.
