Hello SDS Dancers and Parents, Our 2018 show, Wild About Dance is almost here!! I am so excited for everyone to see what we have been working so hard on this dance season! With less than a month left to go there is still lots to do and so many things I need to let you know about! RECITAL INFORMATION: Showtime and Dates for our 2018 Dance Recital Wild About Dance Friday, June 1 st @ 7:00 P.M. Saturday, June 2 nd @ 12:00 P.M. Saturday, June 2 nd @ 7:00 P.M. PRACTICE SCHEDULE: Combined Practice Schedule will be held the week of Monday, May 21 st Wednesday, May 23 rd. I know this is a busy time and school is just getting done but dance recital is the next week and kids have too practice!! Please see last sheets of this newsletter for combined practice schedule! Theatre Practice Schedule will be held from Tuesday, May 29 th Thursday, May 31 st. These practices are mandatory for students. It is of utmost importance that your child practices at the theatre. We mark lines, numbers, get a feel for the stage and go over all dances. Costumes do not need to be worn to these practices. Dance shoes are a must and required to be worn at practices. Please be prompt as my schedule needs to keep rolling! Please take a look at last pages for the Combined and Theatre practice schedule!! Some day and times will be different for dance classes. Look for your regular class time and grade on the sheet to make sure you mark down the right time!! Mark your calendars so you do not forget and please let me know if you have questions!! TICKET INFORMATION: Ticket Dates and Time for the dance recital will be: Thursday, May 24 th from 5:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 29 th from 5:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 31 st from 5:00 P.M. 7:00 P.M. Advanced ticket sales will be held at Sarah s Dance Studio. The price of tickets is $7.00 for each seat. Everyone that will be sitting in the audience in a seat will have to purchase a ticket. If you are working backstage in the dressing room you do not need to purchase a ticket. If the shows do not sell out there will be tickets available at the door on recital weekend!
RECITAL PHOTO INFORMATION: All pictures for the dance recital will be held on Friday, June 1 st at Riggs Theatre in the lobby area. Bridget M Photography will be taking the photographs for the dance recital. Your time and costume will be specified on your picture packet which will be handed out soon!! I will also post the picture schedule on the website prior to the dance recital. The timeline for pictures will start with high school students in the morning and work our way through middle school in the afternoon. All remaining groups will be taken during the dance recital backstage! It is very NECESSARY for students to be on time as we are on a very tight schedule and will not hold up pictures for missing students. Also if you are taking friends/family photos it is the parents responsibility to take your child/children up to the lobby for those photos!! Video Information: TriState Video Service will be videotaping the dance recital this year. I will be sending these order forms home with the students at dance class. If you are interested in a video, please return your order and money to the dance studio!! DRESSING/ BACKSTAGE ROOM MOMS: I would say this is one of the most important jobs at the dance recital! The show can t go on without you awesome parents working backstage and helping all the kids! I know it is crazy and chaotic and I try to be as organized as I can in the gym and dressing rooms with all these students! I will be having a signup for the dressing rooms on SignUp Genius. It will be organized by your child s class time and by each dance recital. I do limit the number of parents with the groups and feel the older they get they do not need as much help but still need to be looked after! I will send the link out soon so you can get signed up!! GIFT TABLES: The gift tables will be set up in the lunchroom during the dance recital. If you are giving a gift PLEASE place First and Last Name with Group number on the gift. There will be a list available at the flower shops with the student s name and group number on them and the group list is available on the website. There will be no one allowed to be placing gifts on tables prior to doors opening at the dance recital. If you try to get in, I will ask you to leave. Doors open one hour prior to the recital and that is when the items can be placed on the tables. Make sure to check gift tables and every performance and take your gifts home!! DANCE RECITAL COSTUMES/SHOES: I will be placing a costume checklist on the website this year. This will help dancers and parents get organized and make sure you have all pieces to your costumes prior to the dance recital. Most importantly PLEASE mark ALL costumes and shoes with your child s initials!! I will have your costume checklist at the dance recital as well with every group!! Please make sure your child s shoes are marked and ready to go and make sure they have what they need for dance recital!!
ADDITIONAL RECITAL INFORMATION: Make a check list of all items needed for the recital and check it twice. You would be surprised every year as to what is left at home. When getting costumes together put all the little things (bows, gloves, tights, sequins, etc.) in a bag (a big Ziploc) and drape the bag over the hanger the costume is on or in your dance bag. This keeps everything together. Check signs in dressing rooms to make sure you have all the pieces required for your costume. Make sure your shoes are in good condition for the recital. Black ballets and jazz shoes need to be polished before the recital. A dressing room idea! Bring a laundry basket with your name on it. Laundry baskets can hold plenty of things and are large enough for various items. Such as costumes, extras, snacks, books, gifts from students. A good way for each child to be organized. Dancers are not to wear jewelry, have fingernail or toe polish on during the recital unless specified by ME!! Makeup is required and should be applied generously and tastefully. Use eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner, bright lipstick, and blush. Please look professional!!! ALL dancers are required to wear makeup for the dance recital! Those bright stage lights drown out your faces and we need to see them, put on the makeup!! Hair must be kept off of face during the recital. It should be worn half up or all the way up. I would prefer that your hair is not all worn down, it takes away from your face and the dance you are performing. I have specified some hair with certain groups on how I would like it done for their dances and yes it needs to be done that way, no questions asked!! You are not to wear underwear under any of your costumes and tights must be worn with all dance costumes! No exceptions!!! You can see underwear lines on stage when you perform and that is what the tights are for. If I see you are wearing them you will be taking them off!! Further Information: There will be further information on recital info and such posted on the website and sent out via email! It is ALL important information happening in the next couple weeks so please read through everything! It does not seem as though recital should be here but it is!!
