ICWL LEAGUE MEETING MINUTES Monday August 22, 2015 7:00 pm 9:00 pm WELCOME TO LEAGUE MEMBERS 7:05pm Mike Nichter ICWL Guest o Pennridge Heather Gallagher & Derek Stuart came to present to their team to the league for consideration of becoming part of the ICWL. Heather is in charge of running the club. They have 85-100 kids from K-6 and middle school kids not included in that number. They are currently part of the East Penn League looking to branch out to get their kids more matches. Looking to bring at least 60+ kids to the ICWL. The remaining kids will be on the East Penn Roster. o Quakertown Had interest in joining the ICWL. They were invited to come to the meeting but didn t attend. Was noted that they may not have interest in the ICWL anymore. Mike Nichter will reach out to confirm. o Referee s - Jim Webb & Scott McCuthen - Referee Assignor/Coordinator and League Rep (new) This year we are trying something new. We need appro. 64 referees every weekend across all of our locations. Currently we are short on referees so we are going to try a mentoring program with kids who have wrestled and graduated to help fill in the gaps. Scott & Jim are asking that we do two things: First and foremost circulate the referee flyer for taking the referee test to all high school coaches asking them to reach out to former wrestling graduates of their schools to become a certified referee. Flyer posted on the ICWL Website. o All interested must be 18 years of age o Upcoming test will take place on October 1oth at Upper Merion Middle School. At 7pm. Secondly, recruit graduates to help out and be a part of the mentoring program. His program will require them to referee under the supervision of the assigned referee s at each meet. o For eample: If a host team has four mats they will only need maybe two refs while they oversee a graduate on the adjoining mat. District 1 has 3 referee chapters to pull from. However, Jim doesn t get a good response when asking for their help to ref matches. There are NO rule changes this year.
If your team has a new league rep this year, please notify Jim Webb with their contact info so he can change it in the system. It is highly encourage that teams who can host on a Saturday afternoon do so to allow better allocation of certified refs. Friday nights are also an option. Treasurer s report and 503C update & Non-Profit Application Status (Scott V) o We currently have $16,683.39 in the savings and $2174.06 in the checking. o Scott applied for the 503C in the spring. He was told it could take as long as 6 months before we hear as to whether or not we would be approved. 2016-2017 ICWL Board Positions (All) o Fred Corradetti, Matt Marion, Mike McGinnis All are retiring o Josh Heimbach board position needs to be approved by league Brian will put on the voting ballot for issues that need to be voted on since there were not enough teams present to have a quorum vote at the league meeting. o One open positions League will vote on 9 th board position If you are interested in being a part of the board please send email to Mike Nichter to be considered. o New ICWL VP Needs to be voted on Schedule discussion and Scheduling Committee formation (Mike Nichter) o Mike Nichter is steeping up to assist in the scheduling process. o Emphasis will be on geography & distance in each zone to eliminate the travel to far points. o Please get your host dates in as soon as you can. o The meets are scheduled as follows: 12/17/16 1/7/17 1/14/17 1/21/17 1/28/17 2/4/17 2/11/17 2/25/17 Novice Tournament 2/26/17 ICWL Championship Dues for 2016-2017 season o League to vote on sponsorships vs. increase dues/no sponsors Increase to $250 no sponsorship or $150 dues plus $100 sponsorship Dues are due by December 5 th at our league meeting League is considering a penalty for teams paying late or partial payments. Needs to be put out for league vote and adopted into the by-laws. General consensus of all in attendance was in favor of a penalty but a quorum vote is needed.
There are 4 teams that are eempt from dues this year as they fulfilled their sponsorship requirement for last season. ICWL Championships February 26, 2017 o New venue Bucks Mont Indoor Sports Center, Hatfield Pa Venue has 70K Sq. Ft. 18K Sq. Ft. on the basketball court and the remaining split between two soccer fields, rooms for referees, cafeteria, changing areas, head table war room & trophy/award room. BMISC has parking for about 150 spaces but they are in an industrial park, and off any main road, so there is plenty of parking with adjacent businesses parking lots. We would not need a crossing guard and they do have a drop-off point. No outside food or drink but they will not be too strict about folks bringing in their morning coffee, etc. No outside vendors allowed. However, selling t-shirts/singlets would be allowed by Scott or whomever from the ICWL They have mutual vendor relationships with tables/chairs company nearby we can price out and potentially use; also have agreements with nearby hotels in case someone wanted to come up the night before and stay overnight especially the teams from the most southern parts of Chester County. The Facility is equipped with large bay doors for dock unload/load and several fire escape eits on all sides of the building as well. Board motions for League to vote to approve contract If league votes to move forward with BMISC we would increase epense from $5500 to $7500. League would need to bring in additional porta potty's Due to distance, board is recommending a later start date around 9/9:30 am. Board is considering recommendation of a silent tournament style where a weight class would be on the same mat the entire day and using track wrestling. Board also recommends a split start 9/9:30 am 12/12:30 pm & 1/1:30 pm 5/5:30 pm Duals discussion and Duals Committee Formation o Brian Martz & Josh Heimbach will head up the Dual committee o Duals this season ICWL Invitational, Wildwood, vs. VEWL, Battle of the Bridge, Bruiser Duals Hosts needed for Invitational and Bruiser Duals this season ICWL Invitational to be held 1/8/17. Venue TBD. Bruiser Duals to be held the end of January 2017. Need a gym that can hold 4 mats. Singlets, t-shirt, recruitment, fees Scott wants to design & order singlets asap.
Certified mandatory weigh-in dates discussion ( Brian) o Initial Weigh In 12/1/16 thru 12/12/16. o Second weigh in should take place on 1/14/17 during the Saturday meet. Grace period will be the following Saturday. USA Wrestling (Mike Medrow) o Each team s responsibility o ACT 31 A reminder that if anyone is on the mat or dealing with the kids for more than an hour must have the background clearances done. That includes Coaches, Parents & Board members. Clearances are good for 5 years. In the event that a member has been arrested, they have 72 hours in which to contact USA Wrestling to make them aware. o Important Dates Rosters are due by December 1, 2016. o Tony Black will be attending our September or October meeting to answer any questions that clubs may have. Roster submission and procedure (Brian) Matchup rating system & changes suggested for this season o No changes are being made to the rating system. However, Mike & Brian will be paying close attention to whether or not you have kids that have places at States, MAWA, War at the Shore & possible VAC Duals to make sure they are rated properly. This will come into play specifically with the Championship Tournament. GENERAL FEEDBACK AND Q & A: o Gate fees for Saturday matches - Various teams have proposed a gate fee for weekly meets. This fee is being proposed to help teams offset hosting fees. Some teams feel that if we had a gate fee more teams would be willing to host. A vote will be put out to the league as it is an ALL or nothing decision. Meaning all teams would have to charge or not charge a gate fee. It would not be something that would be left up to individual clubs to decide. o Conflict resolution procedure reminder It is the responsibility of the teams to pick up the phone and try to work things out. Only after you have done this and can t come to a resolution should you contact Mike Nichter or a board member. o Recruitment Board/League stance The league frowns upon teams actively pursuing kids from other areas. However, if a parent chooses to have their kid be a part of one club over another due to convenience then the league would allow that. We want kids to be able to wrestle and participate in the sport. We just don t want teams poaching kids!! o Tournament announcements (+ PJW/MAWA) Net League Meeting o Net meeting will be held on September 12 th.
