Friend General: Trainer Mrs L. Herne pleaded guilty to a charge under AR178A in that at the Ballina Jockey Club racemeeting on Tuesday 10 April 2018 she did, without the written permission of the stewards, have three syringes containing the prohibited substance Aceprozamine in her raceday bag. Mrs Herne was fined $600. Mrs Herne pleaded guilty to a second charge under AR178A in that at the Ballina Jockey Club racemeeting on Tuesday 10 April 2018 she did, without the written permission of the stewards, have three syringes containing the prohibited substance phenybutazone in her horse truck. Mrs Herne was fined $400. In assessing penalty stewards accepted that Mrs Herne was unaware of the syringes of phenybutazone were present in her truck until stewards completed an inspection. As Ms B. Grylls and Ms J. Worley were ill stewards permitted the following rider changes Race Rider (Horse) 1 B. Looker (No Doubt a Lady) 5 R. Plumb (The Irons) 6 B. Looker (Shark Creek) Ms Grylls and Ms Worley were both advised that they require a doctors certificate detailing their incapacity to ride today. RACE 1: 3YO Maiden Plate 1010m: Bay Shot Slow to begin. Ran wide rounding the first turn. Indian Star Began awkwardly. Little Bit of Suzy Bumped shortly after the start. Moringa s Hiemie Overraced and inclined to hang out rounding the first turn and throughout the middle stages. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
2 No Doubt a Lady Inclined to overrace in the middle stages. Approaching the home turn became held up on heels and was unable to improve until the entrance to the straight. Platinum Hawk Bumped shortly after the start. Unable to be tested over the final 50m when held up on heels. RACE 2: Class 3 Handicap 1530m: Bart When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey M. McGuren stated that he rode his mount forward from a wide barrier to establish the lead approaching the 1200m. M. McGuren stated that whilst his mount travelled keenly in the early and middle stages it was travelling strongly and he was confident when he asked it to improve passing the 600m. M. McGuren stated that his mount only responded to his riding for a short distance and approaching the home turn was under full pressure. M. McGuren stated his mount commenced at the entrance to the straight and was very disappointing to the line. When questioned, trainer Mr J. Cleary stated that whilst the gelding does have a history of mixing its form, it had worked well leading into the event and he was confident of its chances. Mr Cleary was at a loss to explain the performance and the only explanation he could offer was the gelding was back 500m in journey today and may have lacked the sprint required for the shorter distance. Mr Cleary added he would look to step the gelding up in distance next start where, in his opinion, it would be better suited at this stage of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Mr Cleary reported in the days following that the gelding appeared to have some muscle soreness over the hindquarters and he would seek chiropractic treatment for it. Further Mr Cleary undertook to provide blood results on the gelding in the coming days. Latino Lover Near the 200m was bumped on two occasions and unbalanced. Ramatuelle Eased after improving onto heels near the 800m. Realing Slow to begin (2L). Bumped near the 200m on two occasions whilst attempting to obtain clear running. RACE 3: Maiden Plate 1200m: Arcing Hard Approaching the first turn was eased from a number of strides when awkwardly placed inside the heels of Toffee Drop which was being eased to obtain cover at that point. Jockey M. McGuren (Toffee Drop) was asked to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Brown Brown Overraced approaching the first turn. Hung out rounding the first turn.
3 Gold Sun When questioned regarding leading the event and the apparent improved performance of the gelding trainer Mr J. Wallace stated that when the gelding resumed this preparation it led and won an official barrier trial. Mr Wallace added that the gelding was ridden with vigour out of the barriers at its previous start however it was unable to muster sufficient early speed to obtain a forward position and settled at the rear of the field. Mr Wallace added at its previous start the gelding lost ground when checked near the 500m and it rider did not place it under any significant pressure for the remainder of the event. Mr Wallace stated the gelding was benefitted today by being able to lead the event and dictate terms. Mr Wallace added the geldings form prior to its last race start was sound. Mr Wallace was reminded of his obligation to advise of any perceived change in tactics under AR135A. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer Mr J. Wallace was advised that the gelding will now incur the embargoes listed under AR53A. Ivy s Dream (NZ) Bounded on jumping, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced, and lost ground (~4L). A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Madame Giselle Declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 11am after acceding to a request from trainer Mr L. Hatch to scratch the mare. Mr Hatch will be interviewed regarding his failure to scratch the mare by the required time at a date to be fixed. Portuguese Tart Eased when tightened for room approaching the first turn. Steven Blundered on jumping. Sweet William Slow to begin. RACE 4: Open Handicap 1200m Anne Bonny Eased from heels near the 1100m. Eased when momentarily tightened for room near the 700m. Don tbabylon Trainer Mr M. Dunn advised that from a wide barrier, with a heavy weight impost, the mare would not be ridden with vigour early. Bumped on jumping. Bumped and unbalanced approaching the first turn. When questioned regarding the performance of the mare jockey M. Cahill stated that he was instructed not to overly use his mount early and he anticipated settling in a midfield position. M. Cahill stated that he was caught wide in the early stages and he eased further back than he had anticipated in an effort to obtain cover. M. Cahill stated his mount obtained cover in a three wide position at the tail of the field approaching the 800m however it dropped the bit and he was required to encourage it along to maintain its position. M. Cahill stated his mount failed to sprint quickly under the heavy weight impost approaching the home turn however worked into its sprint and in his opinion did its best work was over the final 200m. M. Cahill stated that in his opinion the mare would appreciate a step back up in
4 distance where it can settle in a more prominent position and show a greater desire to compete. Trainer Mr M. Dunn agreed with the sentiments of the M. Cahill and advised the mare would be stepped up in distance at its next start and ridden further forward. Hope Island Bumped on jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Hotel Drive Inclined to overrace in the early stages. RACE 5: Maiden Handicap 1530m Trainer Mr G. Baker pleaded guilty to a charge under AR140A in that he did present Diamant and Sultry Testa to race saddled with the incorrect gear and saddlecloth number. Mr Baker was fined $500. Caro Cavallo Began awkwardly. Rounding the home turn was checked after improving onto the heels of a weakening runner. Passing the 200m was obliged to ease out around heels to continue to improve. C mome Paddyreilly Overraced rounding the first turn. Diamant Overraced approaching and rounding the first turn. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 27.43L and took no competitive part in the event, did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr G. Baker was advised that the gelding is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. Apprentice A. Spinks will be interviewed regarding his use of a whip on a horse out of contention at a date to be fixed. Maglev Rounding the first turn was checked when tightened onto the running rail by Diamant which shifted in abruptly whilst racing fiercely. Santa Cruzing A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 30.62L and took no competitive part in the event, did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr D. Chujo was advised that the gelding is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start. Sultry Testa Hampered and carried wider approaching the 1200m. The Pony Raced wide in the early and middle stages. RACE 6: Benchmark 55 Handicap 2020m: Chantilly Chateau Eased when tightened for room shortly after the start. Passing the 1000m was eased and shifted out abruptly after improving onto heels. Eased out away from heels passing the 800m. Raced wide for the remainder of the event.
5 Cushty Princess Blundered on jumping and bumped shortly after. Shortly after straightening became held up on heels and passing the 200m was steadied for a number of strides when disappointed for a run before shifting in abruptly around heels near the 100m. Continually steadied for the remainder of the event when held up on heels. Shark Creek Unable to be tested over the final 50m whilst laying out onto the heels of Splendid Stryker which shifted in slightly. Jockey J. Fujii (Splendid Stryker) was asked to exercise more care in similar circumstances. She Salutes Bumped on jumping. Passing the 1000m was eased and shifted out abruptly after improving onto heels. Splendid Stryker Carried wider approaching the 800m. Raced wide for the remainder of the event. Strike Sika Eased when tightened for room shortly after the start. Passing the 200m was obliged to ease out around heels to continue to improve. Unable to be tested over the concluding stages when held up on heels. Watched Inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages. RACE 7: Class 1 Handicap 1010m: Atomic Missile Momentarily held up on heels rounding the home turn. Bungaree Boy When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey R. Plumb stated that due to the fast early tempo of the event he eased to a position with cover behind the leaders approaching the first turn. R. Plumb stated that from this point he was required to encourage his mount along to hold its position and it was under full pressure passing the 600m. R. Plumb stated his mount failed to sprint on straightening and was very disappointing to the line. When questioned, trainer Mr M. Wilson stated that the gelding is a big horse and he is not convinced it handled the tight turning circuit today. Mr Wilson added the gelding has failed previously on Good (3) track conditions and in his opinion appreciates more give in the ground. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding found no abnormality other than it had lost its near fore plate. Famous Grouse Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Old Trieste Bumped shortly after the start. Eased when tightened for room passing the 900m. Approaching the first turn commenced to pull severely and continued throughout the middle stages. Regnant (NZ) Blundered on jumping.
6 Royal Equiano Slow to begin. Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Approaching the 150m was eased for a number of strides when disappointed for a run and obliged to shift out around heels approaching the 100m to continue to improve. Shez a Rockin toff Carried wider rounding the home turn and at the entrance to the straight. Sweet Lyrical Trainer Mr D. Bowen was fined $100 for failing to present the ID card for the mare (AR59A). Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Timperley Bumped and unbalanced shortly after the start. Bumped wider rounding the first turn. Raced wide for the remainder of the event. Too Easy Bro Commenced to hang out approaching the home turn and continued to approaching the 100m proving difficult to ride with full vigour. Trainer Mrs H. Page was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. Zenkali Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Raced greenly at the entrance to the straight. Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. Race Rider (Horse) Additional Strikes 5 G.
