1. OVERVIEW The People with an Intellectual Disability (PWID) Australian Ranking is the mathematical method of ranking Australian tennis athletes with an intellectual disability on a calendar year basis. The Australian Ranking is the objective merit-based method used for determining qualification for entry and seeding in some tournaments for singles and doubles. PWID Australian Rankings will be effective as of 1 January 2010. No results achieved prior to that time will be taken into consideration. 2. ELIGIBILITY FOR PWID RANKING AND RANKING POINTS To be eligible for a PWID Australian Raking and to accumulate PWID Australian Ranking Points, an athlete must: (i) (ii) be an Australian citizen or permanent resident; and have an intellectual disability, as defined in the Sport Inclusion Australia guidelines at http://sportinclusionaustralia.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/nationalguidancenotes.pdf, (Eligible Athlete) Athletes with an overseas citizenship who are competing in Australia must provide evidence of Australian permanent residency status to Tennis Australia before being eligible for a PWID Australian Ranking and PWID Australian Ranking Points. Australian Ranking points will be allocated to Eligible Athletes in accordance with the tables set out in Section B of these guidelines. a) RANKING CALCULATION METHOD An athlete s PWID Australian Ranking is calculated using the best two (2) singles results plus their best two (2) doubles results: The official PWID Australian Ranking system works on a 12 month rollover system calculated by athletes total points in the preceding 12 months from when they first obtain a PWID Australian Ranking. Once this 12 month period expires, acquired points will cease to contribute to an athlete s PWID Australian Ranking e.g. player A is a finalist in the Australian Tennis Championships in January 2010 and acquires 35 PWID Australian Ranking points. These points will cease to contribute to player A s PWID Australian Ranking at the beginning of February 2011. b) TIES When two or more athletes have the same total number of points, ties shall be broken as follows: i) The athlete with the most total singles points shall have the higher ranking. If the tie is not broken then, ii) The highest number of points from each athlete s best singles tournament, then, if needed, the second best, and so on, and if still tied, then iii) Drawn by lot by Tennis Australia. 1

c) RELEASE DATE The PWID Australian Ranking is adjusted and updated at the end of each PWID Australian Ranking tournament on the Tennis Australia website at http://www.tennis.com.au/play/players-with-adisability/players-with-an-intellectual-disability/rankings. It is an athlete s responsibility to check that his or her ranking is correct. Any perceived anomalies, incorrect spellings, change of address/date of birth or queries regarding the rankings should be emailed to jschuback@tennis.com.au. Any such email must be received no later than seven (7) days after the applicable release of the updated PWID Australian Ranking. After this time, amendments will not be made until the next PWID Australian Ranking is released. 3. PWID AUSTRALIAN RANKING SANCTIONED TOURNAMENTS The following tours and tournaments are recognised by the PWID Australian Ranking system and contribute to an athlete s ranking points: a) AUSTRALIAN TOURNAMENTS i) Platinum Australian Tennis Championships ii) Gold Victorian Tennis Championships (formerly known as Victorian Hardcourt Championships) NSW Tennis Championships Queensland Tennis Championships SA Tennis Championships (formerly known as Tennis SA Classic) iii) Silver Raymond Terrace Tournament - NSW (additional tournaments may be added to the calendar as required and will enter the calendar at silver level in the 1st year) b) ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN AUSTRALIAN RANKING SANCTIONED TOURNAMENTS i) Platinum Only persons with an intellectual disability, as defined in the Sport Inclusion Australia guidelines at http://sportinclusionaustralia.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/internationalguidancenotes.pdf, are eligible to participate in Platinum Australian Ranking Sanctioned Tournaments. ii) Gold & Silver Any person with an intellectual disability, as defined by the Special Olympics in clause 2.01D of their rules at http://resources.specialolympics.org/regionspages/content.aspx?id=38081, is eligible to participate in Gold or Silver Australian Ranking Sanctioned Tournaments. For the avoidance of doubt, any athlete who satisfies the eligibility requirements for a Platinum Tournament is also eligible to participate in Gold and Silver Tournaments. 2

4. POINTS ALLOCATION GUIDELINES a) ALLOCATION OF SINGLES POINTS PWID Australian Ranking singles points will be awarded on the round robin final placing from PWID Australian Ranking tournaments provided that the athlete has won at least one match. No PWID Australian Ranking points will be awarded for feed-in/consolation singles tournaments. b) ALLOCATION OF DOUBLES POINTS PWID Australian Ranking doubles points will be awarded on the round robin final placing from PWID Australian Ranking tournaments provided that the pair has won at least one match and upon the following conditions: i) Doubles points are worth 25 per cent of the singles points allocation. ii) PWID Australian Ranking points will be awarded from fourth place provided eight (8) men s teams play a match in that tournament. iii) PWID Australian Ranking points will be awarded from fourth place provided six (6) women s teams play a match in that tournament. iv) No PWID Australian Ranking points will be awarded for feed-in/consolation doubles tournaments. c) DEFAULTS / NO-SHOWS / WALKOVERS / BYES i) Advancement through a bye/withdrawal/walkover is not the equivalent to winning a round. Advancement by virtue of a retirement following the commencement of a match is the equivalent to winning a round. ii) No PWID Australian Ranking points will be awarded to an athlete who forfeits a match unless the forfeit is due to illness or injury as verified by the Referee and supported by a medical certificate. iii) No PWID Australian Ranking points will be awarded to an athlete or team who withdraws or is a no-show without playing their first match. iv) Any athlete who is defaulted shall lose all PWID Australian Ranking points earned for that event at the tournament, unless: the athlete was defaulted for a violation of the Commencement of Play or Dress and Equipment sections of the Code of Conduct the athlete retired as a result of a medical condition that athlete is a member of a doubles team and did not cause any of the misconduct Code Violations that resulted in the team being defaulted. 3

d) ABANDONED MATCHES / ABANDONED FINALS i) If a tournament is abandoned due to inclement weather (or other extraordinary circumstances) before the final, then all remaining participants will receive points for the last round that has been fully completed e.g. if only three of the four semifinal spots have been determined when the tournament is abandoned, all relevant athletes will only receive quarterfinal points since the semifinal round was not fully completed. ii) If a final is abandoned due to inclement weather (or other extraordinary circumstances), the total amount of points on offer (winner and runner-up) will be added together and then divided equally among the two athletes/teams. e) ALLOCATION OF POINTS FOR RESULTS OF NON-ELIGIBLE ATHLETES As per clause 2 of these guidelines, PWID ranking points may only be allocated to Eligible Athletes. In circumstances where an athlete who is not an Eligible Athlete (Non-Eligible Athlete) obtains a result at a tournament that, but for their ineligibility, would entitle them to an allocation of PWID ranking points, Tennis Australia, in its absolute discretion, may do any one or more of the following: (i) elevate the Eligible Athlete who achieves the next best result in the tournament (Next Best Athlete) to the placing of the Non-Eligible Athlete; or (ii) declare that no points will be awarded for a particular placing at the tournament; or (iii) declare that two or more Eligible Athletes be awarded the same placing at the tournament; or (iv) conduct a countback based on number of games won to determine the Next Best Athlete (for quarter-final only where the Next Best Athlete has not progressed past the pool stage of the tournament). 4
