ACTIVITY 1 2 s/3 s only Musical Retell Big Idea: Have children play the musical instruments while they praise Jesus. What You Need: Preschool musical instruments Place instruments in an open area of the room. Have the children stand in a circle around the instruments. Have each child pick up an instrument and play with them for a few minutes. Tell the children to stop playing their instrument and say the chant below together. Each time you start/stop playing the instruments increase the number of times you say the chant by one. Collect all the instruments and Bring it Back to Jesus*. During the Activity: WOW! (Point to instruments.) Look at all of these instruments. Let s make some music! Pick an instrument and make some music with it! We can play music to praise Jesus. (Stop and teach chant.) I want to teach you a fun chant about Jesus! It goes like this: Hosanna, Hosanna, Yay Jesus! Let s say it together. Hosanna, Hosanna, Yay Jesus! Awesome! One more time! Hosanna, Hosanna, Yay Jesus! Great! When you hear me say stop we will all say our chant. Here we go! (Play music for a few minutes and then say STOP.) Hosanna, Hosanna, Yay, Jesus! Awesome! (Continue to repeat the activity and increase the number of times you say the chant by one each time.) After the Activity: Great job! Can you say our chant one more time? What You Need: Parachute, and green pom-poms leaves Have the children to stand around the parachute. Encourage each of the children to take hold of the parachute. Place the green leaves (pom-poms) onto the parachute. Instruct the children to move their arms up and down to send the leaves (pom-poms) up in the air. Collect all the pom-poms and Bring it Back to Jesus*. Before the Activity: HOSANNA! HOSANNA! Yay Jesus! Let s praise Jesus! During the Activity: Let s send these leaves up in the air! Let s pretend these pompoms are like the leaves that the people waved to praise Jesus in our lesson today. Everyone pick up the parachute. Let s see how high we can get the leaves! (Do activity.) March Weeks 3 and 4 ACTIVITY 3 - All Palm Branch Parade and Memory Verse Big Idea: Children will practice their memory verse while waving palm branches to recreate Jesus triumphant entry. What You Need: Palm leaves Place the palm leaves in an open area of the room. Have the children form two lines facing each other. Give each child a palm leaf and allow them to wave them for a few minutes. Teach the children the chant below together. Tell the children to wave their palm leaves and say the chant below together. Stop waving the leaves and have one child walk between the two lines saying their memory verse. Alternate between saying the memory verse and saying the chant. Collect all the palm leaves and Bring it Back to Jesus*. Before the activity: Today in our lesson, we heard about when Jesus came to Jerusalem. The people were so excited that Jesus was coming. They knew He was a good friend and could do things to help them. Everyone lined the streets to see Jesus just like they would if they were watching a parade. During the activity: Let s make two lines just like if we were there. (Have children form two lines facing each other.) The people were so excited that they tore braches off of the trees. (Hand out palm leaves.) These were called palm leaves. The people waved their palm leaves at Jesus. Let s wave our palm leaves. (Wave leaves.) Now, I am going to teach you a fun chant! It goes like this: Hosanna, Hosanna, Yay Jesus! Let s say it together. Hosanna, Hosanna, Yay Jesus! Great! Let s say, Hosanna! Hosanna! Yay Jesus while we wave our palm leaves. (Wave leaves and say chant) Great job! (Pick a child to walk down the aisle in between the children). When I pick you, everyone will get a chance to walk (demonstrate) down to this line and say the memory verse. (Pick a child) Are you ready? (Pause.) GO! CRAFT WEEK 3 Leaf Craft What You Need: Leaf Craft Activity Page, green paint cakes, paint brushes, Styrofoam bowls, painting smocks Put one green paint cake inside each Styrofoam bowl. Pour a little puddle of water on top of each paint cake. Pass out painting smocks and have children wear over their clothes Give each child a Leaf Craft activity page and paint brush. Place paint cakes in the center of the table. One for every four children. Demonstrate how to use the paint to the children. Write the child s name on the activity page and set aside to dry once finished. Place inside white bag at the end of service allowing time to dry. Before the Activity: Today we are going to make a palm leaf just like we heard about in the Bible lesson today! After the Activity: Great job! CRAFT WEEK 4 Palm Leaf What You Need: Palm Activity Pages cut out, green tissue paper, glue sticks, craft sticks and packing tape Give each child a Palm activity page, glue stick and craft stick. Place green tissue paper in the center of the table. Demonstrate how to glue the tissue paper onto the activity page. Attach a craft stick with packing tape to the palm leave once finished. Write the child s name on their palm leave and place inside white bag. Before the activity: Today we are going to make a palm branch that you can take home! PLAYDOH / PRAYER TIME PLAYDOH / PRAYER TIME What you Need: Parent Take Home Card, Playdoh, Heart Cookie Cutters, Rolling Pins, and Sticker Roll SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s Prayer and Playdoh time! Since our Bible lesson was about waving, let s wave our hands and shout, Hosanna, Hosanna, Yay Jesus as we walk over to the tables. (Wave hands and shout.) That was fun! Now let s sit down so we can talk about our lesson today. One, two, three, sit down with me! SGL: *We learned today, the people in Jerusalem praised Jesus by waving palm leaves and shouting, Hosanna, Hosanna. We can praise Jesus too! It does not matter how old we are or where we are, we can always praise Jesus. Today we re going to think of ways we can praise Jesus to show Him how happy we are that He wants to be our friend forever. Maybe you can: Sing songs to Him. Go to church like we did today. Talk to Him. Love people the way He loves people! Think about how you want to show Jesus how happy you are that He wants to be your friend forever. When I say your name, tell me one way you can praise Him. (Pause) I love your ideas! These are such sweet ways to show Jesus how happy you are that He wants to be your friend forever. SGL: Ok, it s time to review our lesson. I am going to ask you some questions and you will get a sticker for answering them. I have some really cool stickers today. Are you ready? (Pause.) Great! Go from child to child and have them repeat the memory verse for a sticker. Ask the children the Bottom Line question for a sticker. Using the Parent Take Home card, ask each child individually the questions pertaining to this week s lesson and give out a sticker.
