BBC NATIONAL ORCHESTRA OF WALES Saturday, May 26, Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, 7.30pm bbc.co.uk/now BBC National Orchestra of Wales presents a concert that brings the heat of the Spanish summer to Swansea s Brangwyn Hall. The concert features Debussy s Images, a three-part work that explores the dances and folk songs of England and France, and the swirling heat and vibrancy of Iberia. In the central movement, Debussy brings the exciting festivities of a Spanish festival to life, through very extroverted, rhythmical music. The Orchestra will be joined by violinist Daniel Hope, who will perform Shostakovich s Violin Concerto No 1. Renowned for his virtuosity and creativity, Daniel Hope has toured the world, performing with major orchestras. In this concert he explores one of Shostakovich s most personal works - composed at the height of musical censorship in the Soviet Union, it s a dark and intensely passionate concerto. Led by the Orchestra s Associate Guest Conductor François-Xavier Roth, the concert in Swansea opens with John Adams s punchy and exciting Lollapalooza. Tickets are priced at 12.50 to 15.50 (discounts available) and are available by calling the Orchestra s Audience Line on 0800 052 1812 or Swansea Grand Theatre Box Office on 01792 475715.
