The Silver Arrow Journal Official Newsletter of the Silver Arrow Bowmen Issue 02-2013 The Presidents Podium- I normally do not put negative discussions in the newsletter, but this time I feel that I have to as there may still be some members out there that heard these rumors, so I feel the need to put them to rest. At the last meeting we wasted about an hour dispelling rumors and misunderstandings (at best) regarding the Clubs interaction with and planning of events involving the indoor range, Wasting Arrows. At the heart of this seemed to be a rumor/misunderstanding/innuendo that somehow SAB was giving Wasting Arrows it s 3-D animals to use, just so Wasting Arrows could have an indoor 3-D league, benefitting only Wasting Arrows. Along with this, was the rumor/ belief that none of the actions leading up to and the actual tentative scheduling of the events had been before the Board or reviewed. This was simply not true. We had discussed having leagues there since the time Lystra Pitts had first come to the Board last summer and said he was going to open an indoor range. This was more specifically discussed at the November meeting when he actually had a date that he was going to open. I then drew up a tentative calendar of possible events, beginning in January, coordinating those dates with what was available at Wasting Arrows. This tentative Calendar was brought to the December Christmas meeting. The Calendar, with the tentative dates was physically posted at the front of the room and discussed. All of the events were SAB leagues & shoots, including those to be conducted at the indoor range. The fee structure, and how it would be split between Wasting Arrows and the Club, was specifically discussed. Also included in the discussion, was moving the January meeting from the 2 nd Monday of the month to the 1st Monday, to accommodate final planning, approval and preparation for the indoor events. The January meeting was to finalize the tentative schedules, figure out what we could realistically accomplish (especially since by then I was on crutches and couldn t lift, move or carry anything bigger than a coffee cup). It was also to set the rules for the indoor league, get work parties together to do the needed work to get set up, just like we do with all our events. We did, eventually, accomplish this and set the first indoor league date for Feb. 6 th. Hope to see you at the next meeting, Monday February 11 th store, upstairs classroom next to the Archery Department., at 6:30 pm, @ The Scheels Key Three Items of Business Item #1 Indoor 3-D shoot schedule Item #2 Calendar of events, those we didn t get to last time Item #3 NBHA request for SAB to sponcer shoots at our range in 2013 1

We may also discuss New insurance, which covers not only liability, but the 3-D animals Meeting information The following members were in attendance at the January meeting: Barton Barrow, Dave Frickhoeffer, Lystra Pitts, Ray Gerdes, Jason Dean, Holly Dean, Matt Jackson, Mark Jackson, John Weaver, Wayne Thompson, Mike Bertero, Cal Yarborough, Kelly Dean. The Secretary Says Financial- Membership We are caught up with most of our major recurring bills. Our Insurance bill will be coming up, but we are looking at changing carriers. If you would like to know more specifics about the Club s finances, please come to the meeting, where we will discuss it in detail. We had two new members sign up in January, Welcome to Kurtis Packer and Richard Hennig We are now at 136 members, who are current and up to date. We are still in the process of auditing and updating our membership list, if you have had a change of address or other information, please let us know! We will be taking lapsed memberships (over 1 year) off of our newsletter mailing list Also, we really need to update the E-mail list, so please send your e-mail to our new e-mail address at : silverarrowbowmens@hotmail.com The Web www.silverarrowbowmen.net We are still building more information into the new web site Check it out! We will be updating it so that we have a link on the home page and gallery to our Facebook account, and you can post photos there directly! Facebook SilverarrowbowmenNV Member Lystra Pitts got us on Facebook, so we can post hunting photos etc there. Our Secretary, Heather Campolieti will do most of the management work on it, so if you have questions, call her. 2

The Range Captain s Corner Out on the Range The Lemmon Valley Range remains open to members and the general public every day, via the lower parking lot and walk over gate. There are 28 bail butts available for shooting. Please leave the range clean! Remember, the gate code has changed, see membership for further information Work party We do not have a work party scheduled for February and will probably wait until March for the next one, watch for it to come up online at our Website. Jim Day had been working on the bale compressor, I have not heard from him in a while. He got the motor running, but the hydraulic system is still not working right and it needs a wheel bearing. I expect to hear from him now that most of the hunting seasons are over... Hunting shows Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Camp/Show in Las Vegas Feb 28th-March 3rd Western Outdoor Expo (and Mule Deer Foundation) Feb. 21-24 2013 Salt Lake City Hunting information Make sure all of your big game report cards have been sent in! Turkey tag applications are available, go to www.huntnevada.com Most of the 2012/2013 seasons are over, with the exception of some upland game, water fowl and Mountain Lion. You still have another month to get out there and get after them I know it s early, but it s not too early to start planning for this fall s big game seasons. The Deadline for big game applications will be April 15 th this year. It s bow maintenance time once again Remember, this is the time of year to do your bow maintenance, especially if you are going to get new strings and cables. Get them on now so that by the time the 3-D shoots are in full swing you are ready! Also, if you are going to try any new trick stuff, this is the time to get it on your bow and try it out before you are in competition or hunting. Get those bugs worked out now so you are not scrambling later With Wasting Arrows open, you have no excuse for not getting out there and getting tuned up early! Plus, we have our Wednesday night Indoor 3-D league, which is great practice and fun. He also has several paper target leagues, to really fine tune your skills and still stay warm. Please let me know about your hunts, good stories are what I am looking for, whether you took an animal or not. I will put them in the story of the month section 3
