Water Explorations Tip Sheet Ø Straws ü When using bubble solutions, put a pinhole in approximately 1 to 1-1/2 inches from the top. This prevents children from drawing the solution into their mouths. Ø Bubble Solution ü Add vinegar to the solution before pouring it into the sink or when cleaning up spills. It will help break down the solution. Ø Pennies ü Dry the pennies on paper towel after every use. This helps to prevent corrosion. Ø Bubble Color ü See illustration for setting up the flashlight, plastic container with paper, and blocks. Preparing items for kit return Please clean and dry all items before packing them back into kit for return. 1. Water Smocks Complete usage at least one week before. Turn them inside out and hang to dry. 2. Flex Tubing Complete usage at least one week before. Use a pipette to put drops of alcohol inside the tubing. This will help speed up the drying time, then hang them to dry. 3. Duct Tape Remove all glue residue from all items by using alcohol. 4. Connector Tees and Connectors Take all of them out of the flex tubing and pack separately.

This take home activity will help your child to explore the concept at home. v Float/Sink Activity Water Fun Bag Ø Objective: To learn that water has weight. To explore the idea that objects that are lighter than an equal volume of water will float and objects that are heavier than an equal volume of water will sink to the bottom. Ø Contents: ü One sink/float sheet, ü eight small objects, ü a small plastic container, ü song, ü journal page, ü two sink/float pages. Ø Directions: ü Fill the container with water ü Select one item at a time ü Make a prediction; float or sink? ü Place the item in the water ü Sort the items on the plastic float/sink sheet. Draw the objects in the appropriate columns on the other float/sink sheet Have Fun!!! BPS TEAM Science Pre K Water Explorations, Revised 2016 http://www.firsthandlearning.org/extensions.htm

BUFFALO PUBLIC SCHOOLS Department Of Science Education 333 Clinton Street Buffalo NY 14204 BPS TEAM Science FIRSTHAND LEARNING, INC Science Materials Center 2495 Main St., Suite 550 Buffalo, NY 14214 Dear Parents We have been working on a project about bubbles. This take home activity will help to explore the concepts at home. Bubble Fun Bag Ø Objective: ü To observe the color and patterns found in bubbles. To develop the selfcontrol to blow bubbles slowly. Ø Concepts: ü 1 large sheet of construction paper ü 1 journal page ü 1 Bubble Poem ü 2 containers of bubble solution ü Crayons ü 2 straws Ø Directions: Staple or tape the white construction paper to make a sleeve. Place some bubble solution on a table. A dark table will work best. Have your child slowly blow a bubble. Ask, What colors or patterns do you see? Now place the sleeve around the bubble and ask the same questions again. Have your child draw what he/she sees. Write as they describe their bubbles. Bubble Poem: Practice the Bubble Poem with your child. Keep it at home. Have Fun!! Thank you BPS TEAM Science Pre K Water Explorations, Revised 2016 http://www.firsthandlearning.org/extensions.htm
