YMCA EPPING April 2018
Seniors Festival During April YMCA Epping celebrated the Seniors Festival with great Pryme Active classes, a morning tea and two very informative talks. It was great to see so many familiar faces as well as some new ones and it was even better to hear how good exercise is for both physical and mental health. Physiotherapist, Stephen Borg, focused on the importance of joint health, saying that maintaining muscle strength is an important element to healthy joints. He added that body weight resistance exercises such as push ups and sit ups are beneficial, but it is important to know your limits. Bonnie Tran, from the Brain & Mind Research Institute reinforced the benefits of exercise for brain health, stating that older people who work out three more times a week have improved memory, less brain shrinkage and 32-40% reduction in the risk of developing dementia. WOW Work Out of the Week Are you looking to mix up your workout routine? Why don t you try out our new workouts of the week? Each week we will put a new workout on the whiteboard that is designed to be both challenging and good fun.

Parking The opening of West Epping Oval has delivered two parking areas with space for over 140 vehicles. One can be accessed from Grant Cl (off Midson rd) and the other can be accessed from either Mountain St or Downing St (both off Ray Rd). Both these carparks are a short, easy walk to the Y. Gymnasts of the Week YMCA Epping s Kindergym, Colours and Stage classes are all about teaching our young gymnasts skills for life. One of those skills is working hard and doing your best. To recognise this, we have recently started presenting gymnast of the week awards. These awards are presented to gymnasts that have worked hard in class and have improved their skills. Congratulations to all our recent winners.

This follows on from a stellar performance at the Senior State Championships on 21-22 April at the Sydney Gymnastic Centre where he finished with an all round bronze medal. James results reflect a lot of hard work and great performances in lead up competitions, says coach Andrew Fu. James finished first on vault, first on P Bars and second on floor.
