Class descriptions Class 1: A. Morris Novice Equine Class A novice equine is one that has not won a First place or First rosette in a harness class prior to January 1 st in the year of the show. Open to any vehicle type. Class 2: S &P Scheffler Native Breeds Open to any single or multiple equine(s) that are native to the British Isles. Any vehicle type allowed. Judging to include conformation to breed type. Osborne qualifiers: f,g,h. Class 3: Marneon Signs Ltd Private Driving 13.2hh and Under Open to single or multiple equines under 13.2hh put to a traditional or traditional type vehicle. WFC Best Shod Award Osborne Qualifiers: b,d,e,i, (Please note that i and e are allocated to Classes 3 and 4. Eligible turnouts for this section should, re-enter after Class 4 for allocation of the qualifying section.) Class 4: C.A. Jones Private Driving Over 13.2hh Open to single or multiple equines 13.2hh or over put to a traditional or traditional type vehicle. WFC Best Shod Award Osborne Qualifiers: a,c,e,i (Please note that i and e are allocated to Classes 3 and 4. Eligible turnouts for this section should, if not already in the ring, re-enter after Class 4 for allocation of the qualifying section.) Class 5: HT Installations Best Turned Out Open to any turnout. This class will be judged on the cleanliness and correctness of the turnout. The judge may split this class at their discretion. A special award will be given to the best Groom. WCF Best Shod Award
Class 6: Peters Veteran Class Open to any horse aged 16 years or over or any whip aged over 50. A special award for the highest combination of ages to include; whip, equine(oldest one only if driving a multiples turnout) and groom. Passengers are exempt from this tally. The class may be split between Veteran Horse and Veteran Whip if enough competitors. Class 7: H & R. Stevens Lady and Gentleman Whip Open to any turnout. The driving skill and the ability of the whip will be judged foremost. Class 8: S. Scheffler Concours d Elegance This class is judged from a distance and is based on the judges appreciation of the overall picture of the turnout. The winner will receive the Ken Tapp Memorial Cup. Class 9: E Stevens Young Drivers Young drivers (under 18 years old) MUST be accompanied by a competent adult. When the Young driver is under 10 years of age, the competent adult is to remain in the carriage, with a second groom to stand at turn out s head whilst halted in the ring.the winner will be presented with the Young Drivers Challenge Cup. Grass Roots Championship qualifier Class 10: P & R. Hopkins Ride and Drive Open to any vehicle. The whip does not also have to be the rider. The ridden section will take place first as timetabled with the driven section taking place after Class 14. Grass Roots Championship qualifier Class 11: Jenny Todd Pleasure Driving Class Any turnout eligible, safely harnessed as if driving out on the road. (High vis wear is optional) Competitors may be asked to perform three simple tasks. Regular private driving competitors are asked to respect that this class is intended to encourage grass roots members to compete. The winner will receive the Todd Pleasure Driving Shield. WFC Best Shod Award Osborne qualifiers: l, Grass Roots Championship qualifier Class 17: Long reining Class (am only in Cones ring) A rosette will be given for a clear round i.e. no balls are knocked down from the cone tops. This class has NO entry fee. Class 18: Driven cones (am only in Cones ring) To be completed at a trot. Penalties will be accumulated for knocking down a ball (5 penalties per ball, or for each break in pace i.e. cantering or walking (1 penalty per break in pace) Rosettes will also be given for a clear round in addition to placings. Class19: Driving for the Disabled Display (pm only in Cones ring) A display class kindly shown by Carmarthen Carriage Drivers.

Championships and Qualifiers: Worshipful Company of Farriers Best Shod Presentation The judge will examine each horse/pony before or during the line-up for preliminary judging, taking into consideration a) the condition of the feet b) the making (or preparation) and fitting of the shoes c) the nailing and position of clips. Normal shoes and showing plates are equally acceptable, provided they are suitable for the horse/pony. The Worshipful Company of Farriers will award: A Rosette and an inscribed card to the winner in each class (Classes 3,4,5,11,16 and 17) A Plaque to the overall winner A Plaque for the Registered Farrier responsible for its feet and shoeing. Points Championship Presentation Judged on how many points are accumulated by an entrant. Each entrant gains one point for entering a class. If placed in a class the entrant will receive the following: 4 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2nd place, 2 points for 3rd place and 1 point for 4th place. The entrant with the most points at the close of the day before the Championships will be awarded the Frazer Perpetual Challenge Cup. Grass Roots Championship Open to first and second prize winners from the relevant classes as identified in the schedule. Arwel Davies Joinery Welsh Lawn Championship Open to first and second prize winners from the Welsh Lawn ring and. Winner to receive the Perpetual Challenge Cup. This Class is a qualifier for the Victoria Foods Company Championship 2018. The highest placed Private Driving turnout will qualify for the Victoria Food Company Championship to be held on September 8-9 th at Wellington Riding, Heckfield, Hook, Hampshire. In the Event that the highest placed Private Driving turnout has already qualified the next highest will qualify. If the next highest has also qualified the rosette will be awarded to the highest placed. Once qualified, the horse, whip and vehicle may not be changed.

Derrick Whiting Exercise Vehicle Championships (Advertised as BDS Wales National Exercise Vehicle Championships) The class will be open only to competitors who have already qualified from designated agricultural and BDS area shows. RULES AND CONDITIONS 1. All equines are to be a minimum of four years old. 2. Hard hats are to be worn at all times when exercising ridden horses and MUST be worn for the ridden section of class 10. 3. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times. 4. Ball games are prohibited near the horses. 5. No horse to be left unattended at any time. 6. Anyone driving a turnout or riding in a class must be a member of the British Driving Society to participate and will be asked to produce their membership card when they pick up their number from the Secretary s office on the day. 7. Every care has been taken to ensure that everyone attending the show has a safe experience. The show will therefore not accept liability for damage or injury due to any cause whatsoever. 8. The show recommends that nothing valuable is left unattended. The show will not accept liability for theft of valuables while on the showground. 9. The judge's decision is final. Any objections should be put in writing with 30 deposit (refunded if the objection is upheld) to the show secretary within 15 minutes of the class ending. 10. The show reserves the right to refuse or cancel entries, to vary or cancel awards and postpone or abandon the show or any section thereof. 11. All horses must have passports, which can be shown to the relevant authorities on the day of the show. 12. Please note that classes with Osborne Refrigerator qualifiers are governed by the rules of the Osborne Refrigerator BDS National Championships which are listed in the BDS yearbook 2018. 13. Please note that the Pleasure Driving Class, the Private Driving Classes and the Exercise Vehicle Classes all have qualifiers to Championship events which have individual rule sets. These rules will be applied when awarding the qualifiers. 14. Young Drivers under 14 years of age must wear hard hats whilst mounted on a carriage whether driver, groom or passenger. 15. All Drivers, especially Young Drivers must be able to place their feet either on the floor of the carriage or an appropriately placed foot rest.
