Queen Gee Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards considered an application by trainer Mr J. Wallace to have the mare declared a non runner alleging it was denied a fair start. After viewing official video footage and taking evidence from Mr Wallace, starter Mr R. Kelly, barrier attendant Mr W. Friend and apprentice N. Masuda stewards established that the mare became fractious and reared as the start was affected. In response, the barrier attendant assisting the mare, at the request of its rider, took hold of its near side rein and did not release it resulting in the mare being unable to leave the barriers and take any part in the event. Whilst the stewards acknowledged that the mares behaviour as the start was affected was of its own doing they were satisfied that the subsequent actions of the barrier attendant had denied the mare the opportunity leave the barriers and thus it had been denied a fair start. Consequently stewards declared the mare a non runner. Stewards ordered that all wagers on the mare be refunded and that all successful wagers placed with bookmakers be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket, 5 cents the win and 11 cents the place for 1 st (Hurt Locker), 7 cents the place for 2 nd (Little Miss Rocker) and 11 cents the place for 3 rd (Noah s Secret). L. Rolls added that his mount was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn
and down the straight and weakened on its run to the line. L. Rolls stated that he is not convinced the filly can run out the 1400m journey. SWABS: Swab samples were collected from all winners.
