SASJ NATIONAL COMPETITION THE SASJ NATIONAL JUMPING COMPETITIONS CLASSES AND CATEGORIES SASJ Competition LEVELS These competitions are restricted to the Adult and Junior Age Groups and separate classes must be held for each age group. Competitors eligible to compete in both Age Groups in any one calendar year may only compete in one age group in that year. Level R: 90m Horses Restricted to horse and rider combinations that have not competed at levels higher than 90m in any Level S: 80m Horses Restricted to horse and rider combinations that have not competed at levels higher than 80m in any DETAILS OF COMPETITIONS The courses for the following heights will be the same in all respect with the following times: 1.40-350mpm 1.35-350mpm 1.30-350mpm 1.20-350mpm 1.10-350mpm 1.00-325mpm 90-300mpm 80-300mpm There will be two different courses each day of the Event, Each level will have two competitions over different courses designed by Course Designers appointed by the SASJ Council. The complete competition for each of the four levels consists of four rounds. The final score for each competitor is the total penalties for the four rounds and the aggregate of that competitor's times in the 5
second and fourth rounds. If after the four rounds the total penalties and time are equal for any place, the fastest time in the fourth round of the competition will decide the highest placing. ORDER OF STARTING Competitors may ride no more than three horses in any one level and must ride the same horse in all four rounds. The order of starting in the first round of all levels will be randomly drawn as provided for in SASJ database. The order of starting in the second, third and fourth rounds will be in reverse order of merit using the scores obtained by the competitor in all the prior rounds. The Event is to be staged over two successive days, with each level jumping two rounds per day and is run as one competition. The order of competitions for each of the two days of the Event is to be as follows: Levels N & S (80cm) Levels G, M & R(90cm) Levels F, L & Q (1.00m) Level E, K & P (1.10m) Level D, J & O(1.20m) Level C & I (Open 1.30) Level A & B (1,35 & 1,40) Provincial SJ Chairman may, if they wish, elect not to stage all of the levels. ORGANISATION Each SASJ Provincial Committee is directly responsible for the organisation and judging of the four competitions. Each level of the competition is to be judged by two judges, at least one of whom must be on the SASJ FEI Level 1 Panel, or FEI International or FEI International Candidate panel. The senior judge will at the same time be the SASJ Technical Representative and as such will be solely responsible for ensuring that all details of the courses are built in strict accordance with the published design. THE COURSE The size of the arena shall be 70m x 50m. The courses will consist of between ten and twelve numbered obstacles and will include one combination. The balance of vertical and spread obstacles will be as near even as possible. There will be no water jump or wall. The course plans must provide all the information required for each Provincial Body to have the courses constructed in an identical manner. The fence construction must be clearly illustrated and must not include any jump equipment which is unusual or expensive to make. Provincial SASJ Committees are prohibited from making the official course plans for these competitions available for use in any way before the dates of the Event. The use of electronic timing with an arena display is compulsory. Should this not be available, two stop watches must be provided. If crossing the starting and finishing line cannot be clearly judged from the Ground Jury box, one or two persons, one at the starting line and one at the finishing line, with a flag, must be placed at both of these lines to signal the crossing. PRIZE MONEY, TROPHIES AND MEDALS Each SASJ Provincial Committee/OC will make its own arrangements re prize money for each of the levels. 6
PARTICIPATION IN AND STAGING OF THE COMPETITION This competition must be held by each of the SASJ Provincial Committees during the period 1 August and 31 November each year. The intention of the SASJ Provincial Committees to take part, and details of venues and dates for the competitions must be given to the SASJ Office. RESULTS The results, the SASJ Rep's report and the programme for the Event must be sent to the SASJ Office within two days after the completion of the Competition. Special result sheets which will be supplied together with the course plan must be used. Results will be published by SASJ as they become available, but such published results will not include details of any times taken by the competitors. The times will only be made known when all results have been received. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Depending on sponsorship received, the top thirty overall prize winners of the SASJ National Showjumping competition in each of the three levels will be invited to compete in the National Championship for that level, The championship shall be held each year between 1 December and 31 April of the following year in respect of such levels as are determined annually by the Showjumping Technical Committee. Entries to these national championships shall be limited to the top thirty qualified horses in each level based on the results of the SASJ National Showjumping Competitions of the same year. Any horse that has competed in a higher level after the SASJ Competition shall not be eligible for any championship. The Championship classes will be run over two rounds, the first not against the clock and the second over a different shorter course against the clock.
