Captains Corner Thank You We end 2014 with one of our smallest fields with only 64 players playing a longer Gailes course with an early morning shotgun start. The length of the course was certainly felt by our crying towel winner - Mike Winter- with 19 points off a 16 handicap. I want to congratulate Laurens on his captaincy this year, leading our club with a growing membership of over 110 members. Thanks for your contribution in leadership this year and your continued support of Nomads as Secretary for the National Committee for 2015. We welcome Gary Mulholland as our new Junior Vice-captain for 2015 and wish him a golfing welcome for the next four years. I want to give Warwick all my support with his Charity Day this year. We need all members to give him the same support you gave me in 2014. In saying this I want to thank all the members for the support you gave me with the www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 4
Charity day last year. As a result, we ve pledged $25,000 to Queensland Kids. I am sure everyone will agree, Paul Quillium and his team have been exceptional supporters of Nomads last year. We might be able to support them again. Our venues for 2015 is outstanding. Laurens, once again you ve done exceptional work finalising our venues with 12 out of 13 shotgun starts. Most venues are resorts style courses to play this year, including Palmer Gold Coast, Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island and Pacific Harbour. As Laurens did last year, I urge all our members to focus our attention on the speed of play. As a club with no home we have to set the example and complete our rounds within four to four and a half hours. Our scoring format is selected for the pace of play that it affords, so take let us take full advantage of it. As a result, we will remain the sought after golf club that we are. Several clubs provided us with opportunities to play more than one game a year. The SAMSON (Scoring and Management System of Nomads) software is also taking effect this year to comply with Nomads South Africa requirements. Although the process takes a bit longer it provides us with up to date information on all members, scores, handicaps and other information. Due to the process of capturing every holes score, I request all players to finalise their scorecards as soon as possible upon completion of the last hole. The captain of the fourball then hand all four cards to the handicapper without delay. Finally, I would like to wish everyone an exceptional 2015 and hope that you keep straight down the middle of the fairways and the greens. Happy golfing Nell Schoeman Nomads GC Brisbane Captain www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 5
Around the course Challenging Track Our final game concluded with 64 players, including 6 guests at the Gailes Gold club on Sunday 7 December. Taking into consideration the drought of the last months, the course was in very good condition and with the tees moved further back than normally, members found the course a bit more challenging than previous years. The lucky number was 36 at Gailes; both A and B division won by a count-out on 36 points. Our A-division was won by Alex Scarf from a 5 handicap, with runner up Trevor Goss from a 9 handicap. It was a good day for Trevor as his name will feature a few more times. B-division winner of an 11 handicap Andrew Munn, just nudge out Allan Coulson on a 12 handicap. C- division winner William Giuliani (35 of 22 handicap) had an easier day, winning by two shots over William Lottering with 33 points off an 19 handicap. The best guest for the day was Alex Gainsford with 31 of a 17 handicap. www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 6
The best approach was won by Alex Scarf with Lloyd McIlroy and Gary Mulholland winning the nearest to the pins. We had five two clubs this month with Lloyd and Gary being supported by Warwick Rust, Wayne Richardson and Richard Keals-Smith. From January we will not have a best pair anymore, as we now have a prize for the best drawn fourball and the first winners of this prize was Andrew Munn, Leon Stevens, Joel Lauratet and Eric Kritzinger each winning a case of Crown Golden Ale from our latest sponsor - Carlton & United Breweries. Our lucky draw winners for this month were Rob Dunsmuir wins 2 nd prize, Gus Battaliou winning 1 st prize and Ryan Broodryk winning a $600 contribution to the Nationals entry fee in Perth. Hopefully for Mike Winter 2015 starts better than the way it ends, winning the crying towel with a total of 19 of 16. www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 7
The Peter Thompson Knock-out was concluded earlier with Trevor Goss and Eric Kritzinger winning over Andrew Howes and Michael-John Lane in the finals. I am sure both their wife s will be very happy the prices for their efforts. As always with our last game in December we have the Gold Cup winners with Trevor Goss (again) walking away with the trophies for winner A-Division and Best Worst Golfer. www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 8
Richard Keals-Smith won the B-Division with Warwick Rust walks away with the honors in the C-Division. Ian Horsley won the Best 3 Even (108) with Laurens Hamman winning the Best 3 Odd trophy (108). Phil Coetzee walked away with the trophy for Best 6 on a total of 208 and Brian Chamber won Golfer of the Year on 371 points. www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 9

Therefore, we would like to arrange a social event once every quarter, which could be at someone s home, a club or pub in the city, a rugby game etc. We also would like members to come forward with ideas and help us make Nomads Brisbane into a club we can enjoy not only golf, but a few social events with each other. Social Events This year we propose to have 2 3 social events. What this means, is we are a club do not have time to enjoy each other s company of a few quite beers at the end of the monthly www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 14
From the Rule Book Slow Play Without a doubt the most annoying thing on the golf course is slow play. Here are some hints: 1) Always walk at a brisk pace to your ball; 5) A reminder that in Nomads we putt out when on the green so don't mark your ball. Finish putting once you have started; 6) If you can no longer score PICK UP. 2) Talk / tell jokes whilst you are walking and not when teeing off or hitting/putting; 3) Don't look for a player s ball unless you are in the same area as the lost ball or have picked and cannot score; 4) Whilst waiting for your turn to putt, clean your ball and check your putting line so when it is your turn you are ready to lock and load and you don't have to go through your lengthy pre- putting routine; www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 15

On the lighter side Priorities At dawn the telephone rings, Hello, Señor Roy? This is Ernesto, the caretaker at your country house. Ah yes, Ernesto. What can I do for you? Is there a problem?. Um, I am just calling to advise you, Señor Roy, that your parrot, he is dead. My parrot? Dead? The one that won the International competition?. Si, Senor, that's the one. Damn! That's a pity! I spent a small fortune on that bird. What did he die from?. From eating the rotten meat, Señor Roy. Rotten meat? Who the hell fed him rotten meat?. Nobody, Señor. He ate the meat of the dead horse. Dead horse? What dead horse?. The thoroughbred, Señor Roy. My prize thoroughbred is dead? Yes, Señor Roy, he died from all that work pulling the water cart. Are you insane? What water cart?. The one we used to put out the fire, Señor. Good Lord! What fire are you talking about, man? The one at your house, Señor! A candle fell and the curtains caught on fire. What the hell? Are you saying that my mansion is destroyed because of a candle?! Yes, Señor Roy. www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 17
But there's electricity at the house! What was the candle for? For the funeral, Señor Roy. "WHAT BLOODY FUNERAL??!!" Your wife's, Señor Roy. She showed up very late one night and I thought she was a thief, so I hit her with your new Ping G20 204g titanium head golf club with the TFC 149D graphite shaft. SILENCE... LONG SILENCE... VERY LONG SILENCE... "Ernesto, if you broke that driver, you're in deep trouble." www.nomadsbrisbane.com PAGE 18
