Leading the way was freshman defenseman Ian Cole (Ann Arbor, Mich.) who was a first-round selection of the St. Louis Blues who took him with the 18th pick overall. Cole became the first Irish player ever selected in the first round and was selected earlier than any other Notre Dame player (Rob Globke 04 was the previous highest selection when he was picked 40th overall by Florida in 2002). Cole was followed by fellow freshman defenseman Teddy Ruth (Naperville, Ill.) who went in the second round, 46th overall to the Washington Capitals.
