Nola exited the game with a 5-0 lead that the bullpen could not hold Offensively for the Phils, Cesar Hernandez homered on his second consecutive Opening Day (more on that below) and Rhys Hoskins (2-3, 2 2B, SB) picked up right where he left off in 2017. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE: In yesterday s opener, the Phillies saw a total of 171 pitches over 38 plate appearances Philadelphia s 4.50 pitches per plate appearance were tops among all clubs on Opening Day (next: TB, 4.40 P/PA) Aaron Altherr (21 pitches, 4 PA 5.25 P/PA), Maikel Franco (20 pitches, 4 PA 5.00 P/PA) and Carlos Santana (25 pitches, 5 PA 5.00 P/PA) each saw at least five pitches per plate appearance yesterday. NICK AT NITE: Tonight, the Phillies hand the ball to Nick Pivetta for his season debut Pivetta is coming off a spring where he posted a 3.93 ERA (8 ER, 18.1 IP) with 17 strikeouts to six walks Over his final three starts of the spring (3/16-25), Pivetta posted a 1.80 ERA (2 ER, 10.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts to just one walk Pivetta finished his 2017 campaign strong, going 3-0, 1.06 ERA (2 ER, 17.0 IP) with 19 strikeouts in his final three starts (9/18 vs LAD, 9/24 at ATL & 10/1 vs NYM) Pivetta is also riding a career-best 16.0-inning scoreless streak which dates back to last season (9/18/17-current).
