The Diamond Dust WWW.RIVIERALITTLELEAGUE.ORG SPRING BALL - June 2nd, 2012 Riviera Little League New Division Coming to RLL A new baseball division known as 50/70 will be coming to Riviera next season. Featuring a pitching distance of 50 feet and base paths of 70 feet, the new division will be offered for the 2013 regular season. It will include postseason tournament opportunities, including a World Series. This new division will serve as a bridge between the current Little League size field (46-foot pitching distance, 60-foot base paths) and a standard baseball diamond with 60.5-foot pitching and 90-foot base paths used by our Junior Division. This new division will also incorporate lead offs for base runners and balks. During the month of July our major field will be modified to accommodate this new division. The major infield will be cut back and enlarged. Additional base anchors will be placed for the 50 foot base locations. These improvements will allow our major field to be multi-functional to accommodate all of our divisions. The RLL board is currently working on our local By Laws and requirements for this new division. Watch for future emails and updates on the RLL website regarding a possible late Summer or Fall program that will introduce this new division to our kids.

Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world. - Babe Ruth Stump the Ump Learning the Rules of Little League Situation: Fair batted ball hits the base runner standing on third base. Kirk Adams sixadams1@yahoo.com Stump the Ump (Answer) Situation: Yes Rule 7.08 (f). Another one of those myths. The base does not protect the runner from being called out when hit with a fair batted ball before the ball has touched or passed an infielder. EXCEPTION: If a runner is touching a base when touched by an infield fly, that runner is not out, although the batter is out.
