.

And a big Southside welcome to our new sponsor our new sponsor President s Report Hi all Well, after a somewhat uncertain start, due to lack of waves, a show of hands in the carpark determined the comp for the day, and,as it turned out it was a good call, because as the morning progressed, so did the quality of the waves.

Competition as always was fierce between the top surfers, with Paul Detmold winning the day. Onya Paul, and congratulations to all who took part. The B.B.Q was offshore, day was clear and crisp, Huey ended up doing it for us,god was in his heaven, and everything was right with the world. Turn up to the after comp refreshments at the Wanda surf club was well attended, I think we had about 15 turn ups, and is highly recommended for all who can make it. I ll be away for the August comp. and so will Rossco Wonno and Andy Taylor. Jimbo will be the Contest Director on the day, so if all you others can all pitch in and give him a hand it would be well appreciated. The September Willett Johnston Partners Spring classic is just around the corner. Your committee has it all well in hand, so spread the word to all your mates who may want to compete, get your entries in quickly as all spots are filling fast. Well that s about all. Have a good Aug meet..don t forget the September comp is being brought forward ( as it is each year) to the end of August due to Father s Day on 2 nd September and the Spring Classic on the 8 th September. Arrivederci Il Presidente Cheers Rod Menzies El Presidente. Contest Director s Directors Report Hi Everyone, Thanks again for all your help and support. What a glorious day we had on Sunday for the July competition! I think people just don t realize how beautiful and special Winter is down on the beach. Well the weather was fantastic but realistically we were lucky to get away with the competition. I think a lot of people took a look at the surf early on Sunday morning saw it was non-existent and decided not to surf, a decision I can well understand. I alternately, thought a competition was possible, and I had a plan in hand so that we could make the best out of the day and the conditions. There was a bank just off the Southern end of the Wanda Surf Club and another one just a bit further South, so if we set up our area strategically we could perhaps have the best of both.

In the end we kept to one bank, which worked fine, and the setup was comparatively easy. But, of course, the real reason why we needed to have the competition was that Master Chef Peter Phillips had freshly brewed his marvelous Vegetable Soup, and wasn t it a treat. Thanks Pete. Well the winner on the day was Paul Detmold, well done Paul. But I think the stand out performance on the day was from Gary Lawrence who came in a close second. Gary s wave score in the first round was 41.7 well in front of the next competitor on 36.1. I would like to thank Jackson Detmold and Peter Toby who helped tally the results along with all those members who participated in judging the contest. On another matter I won t be here for the next two rounds of the competition, nor for the Spring Classic. Jim Sourry has graciously offered to be the Contest Director for the next two rounds, and will be supported by Peter Toby, Jackson Detmold, Andy Taylor and perhaps even Larry Beaver if he is around, so please go easy on Jim and give him all the support you can. Finally, if judges can check and remember to fill in the round and heat number of the competition and put their name on the sheet, or at least some name on the sheet that recognizes them so that I can get back to them if I need to ask a technical question that would be great. Additionally, judges, if there is a surfer out in the water for the competition and they don t catch any waves, if you could write No Waves Caught on the line next to their rashy colour, that would solve a lot of problems. Thanks everyone. Look after yourselves, have fun, I ll see you in October. Rossgo SSMC Contest Director Maldives Surf Trip. The Southside Maldives surf is soon departing and a number of us lucky guys are off later this month. There will be photos of the travels coming up on our return. Rod Harty Treasurer
