Football made in Sheffield Since 1857 Founded in 1857 by William Prest and Nathaniel Creswick, Sheffield FC is officially recognised as The World s First and Oldest Football Club. The forgotten pioneers dedicated their lives to the invention of club football and developed the first set of commonly adopted rules and with that the first corner kick, cross bar, throw-in, free-kick and fouls. Just as important as the invention of the rules was those men s deep understanding of the game and its true values: Integrity, Respect and Community, as they developed the club to always be and remain Non-Professional, since 1857. In the following years, the Sheffield FC pioneers enforced the foundation of other football clubs within and outside the city of Sheffield, amongst others they helped to establish the second oldest team in the world, Hallam FC, with whom they live in friendship and share a respectful rivalry on the pitch, playing the game like gentlemen and honorable amateurs.
The World s First Derby Played since 1860 Since 1860, on Boxing Day December 26 th, the two oldest football clubs in the world celebrate the first derby and inter-city football match ever played. Back then it was Sheffield FC against its local rival Hallam FC, the Countrymen. vs. This Gentlemen s Game is considered the oldest still-contested derby of any football code in the world, and is probably one of the oldest organised team-sport derbies in the world, besides those found in cricket. The match was originally first played on the oldest football ground in the world, the pitch of Hallam FC at Sandygate Lane in the city of Sheffield.

Sheffield FC & PUMA Press Release Sheffield FC celebrate new kit and technical partnership deal Sheffield FC the world s first football club is celebrating a new kit and technical partnership deal. Global Sports brand PUMA and Sheffield FC have joined forces to form a new partnership from the start of the 2014/15 season. The new deal will see PUMA supply kits for all the Sheffield FC teams as well as track suits and leisure wear. It s another major boost for the Dronfield-based club who appointed the highly experienced Mick Wadsworth as team manager during the close season. In addition to the supply of kit and equipment, PUMA will back Sheffield s charitable foundation with various projects to help protect the grassroots of football. The partnership with PUMA has developed in the wake of Club s flourishing relationship with PUMA sponsored Borussia Dortmund. Late last year Sheffield FC chairman Richard Tims visited the German super club for its anniversary celebrations where he became the first representative of another club to address the so-called yellow wall of fans. Mr Tims said: This new deal is a result of a developing relationship with PUMA over the past year and a half. We are proud to work with PUMA, and that they have recognised our fantastic history and heritage but at the same time for the fact that our brand as the world s first football club is building across the globe.
