Welcome to Thousand Oaks TITANS Football We welcome you to the 2017 Thousand Oaks TITANS football and cheer season. Whether you are a returning Cheerleader or Football player, or a first time member of the TITANS, there is very important information in this handbook that you and your parents will need to know and understand for the upcoming season. The Thousand Oaks TITANS Since 1967, our organization has been dedicated to teaching the youth of Thousand Oaks about the great sport of football. Through the years we have had a significant number of our alumni go on to very successful high school and college careers. But more importantly, we have given thousands of our children positive lessons they will carry throughout their lives. Our Philosophy Better Athletes, Better People. Winning is the achievement of personal and team goals, the lessons of confidence and perseverance, the endeavor of good sportsmanship, and the discipline required for outstanding teamwork. As coaches and role models, we utilize these important qualities to prepare our players for life. The Pacific Youth Football League PYFL was established in 1993. The PYFL has member programs from Santa Barbara to Lancaster. The divisions are divided by age and weight. The TITANS are proud of their success in the PYFL. In 2003, 2007 & 2016, the T.O. TITANS earned the "Chuck Purcell" award of excellence from the PYFL. This award is given annually to the chapter that represents the highest level of commitment and dedication, and is characterized by citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play. The TITANS have won 5 Super Bowls in the PYFL: (1) the 1996 J1, as the CONEJO COWBOYS, (2) the 2004 Seniors coached by Tony Calfo & Bryan Nuesca, (3) the 2005 Juniors, (4) the 2009 Peewees, and (5) the 2014 Peewees coached by Lance Martin. The 2005 Bantams were runner up. The TITANS have hosted a PYFL Record, four Super Bowls; 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2013.

REGISTRATION The Registration process consists of two steps: First, register online at www.totitans.com. At the time you register with the TITANS, we collect an annual membership fee of $400.00 for Football players and $175.00 for Cheerleaders. We offer a discounted Early Bird signup rate and have a late fee for sign ups after uniform orders go out in May. This membership fee also includes a Fundraising fee of $50 in Raffle Tickets per player or cheerleader. For families with more than one player or cheerleader, there is a $25.00 discount for each additional child. Second, attend one of our 3 registration events. Where families will meet coaches, board members, and be able to order merchandise. Players will weigh in, take their certification picture, and size uniforms. Once you have completed these two steps, your registration is complete. This fee covers the following: Football Players - Game and alternate/practice jersey, chin strap, integrated game/practice pants, team photos and trophy, all of which the players keep. The balance offsets the cost of insurance, referees, practice and game fields, game EMT s, helmet, pads and all other essentials necessary for financial operation of the T.O. TITANS Athletic Association. All equipment is the property of the TITANS & must be returned immediately upon request. Cheerleaders - Spirit Pack, trophy and team photo. In addition, Cheer contributes toward the basic costs of insurance and field rental and mutual Titan expenses. REFUNDS, FEES, TROPHIES AND JERSEYS There are NO REFUNDS for FOOTBALL or CHEERLEADING. Returned checks are subject to a $50.00 processing fee. Trophies are awarded to each participant who completes the season. Jerseys are provided to football players who complete PYFL certification requirements. PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS Each player and cheerleader must have a physical exam prior to the first practice each year to allow them to participate. The physical examination must be recorded and signed by a licensed medical doctor after January 1st. The Physical should be recorded on the official PYFL Physical Form, which can be obtained from your registration confirmation email. We generally offer a physical clinic before practice starts for a nominal fee.

Cheerleading and Squad Assignments Uniform, hair bow, pom-pom, and cheer shoes are required and purchased separately. All items are yours to keep at the end of the season. Each year the cheerleading squads are formed based on the characteristics and number of the participants in the program. It is our hope that there will be enough participants that we can provide a squad of cheerleaders for each football team. Based on Registration, the TITANS cheer squads will be divided into divisions matching the football program. Cheerleaders are assigned to cheer squads as follows: 1. Every attempt is made to assign cheerleaders to squads that match the age/grade of the players on the football team the squad is assigned to. A cheerleader's age is based on their age/grade as of Sept, 1. 2. If a cheerleader has a sibling participating in the TITANS program, and the parent requests they be placed on the same team, their request will be honored. However, the ages of the other cheerleaders on that squad may not match the age your cheerleader. Cheerleading Practice The TITANS cheerleading practices will begin the late July. Cheerleaders will practice at Thousand Oaks High School on the practice fields next to the softball field. Cheerleaders should wear the required spirit pack uniform with athletic shoes or similar for all practice sessions. Practice times and dates will be given closer to our start date. On rainy days, practice will not be held. Check with the squad manager for updates when the weather leaves practice questionable. It is each family's responsibility to contact the squad manager to check on practices.

PRACTICES All TITANS football teams practice on the same site, the TOHS practice fields behind the school. Subject to TITANS Board approval, exceptions may be made if the fields are not available. Access and parking is available via the entrance from Avenida de Las Flores and Moorpark Road. We try to schedule all practices at the same time, usually early evening. Conference rules do not allow any practice to be conducted after 8:30p.m. Practice sessions are not allowed to be longer than two (2) hours. During the month of August, teams may practice up to six (6) days each week, two (2) hours per day. Full attendance is expected. After the first week of school, practice is limited to a maximum of four (4) days per week. Practice will start for all teams on July 24th. There is no physical contact except for calisthenics and isometrics during the first, ten (10) hours of practice. Helmets may be worn after the first, six (6) hours of practice. Full practice gear may be worn the second, ten (10) hours of practice for dummy contact only. There shall be no man-onman contact during the second, ten (10) hours of practice. PLAYER AND CHEERLEADER RESPONSIBILITY Upon registering, applicants agree to maintain at least a "C" average in school during the duration of the football season. Coaches may ask to see report cards that are issued during the season. Players and Cheerleaders who fail to maintain a "C" average may be dismissed. Players and Cheerleaders shall exhibit good sportsmanship and proper behavior at all times. Players maintaining a 3.0 GPA, will receive a special Scholar Baller patch to wear on their uniform. PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY The Thousand Oaks TITANS is a volunteer organization. The Board of Directors, Coaches and others, give freely of their time in an effort to provide a positive experience for the children. We encourage parent participation. Parents will be required to sign a volunteer agreement. Some of the volunteer positions include: Team Manager, Videographer, Auditor, Equipment Manager, Score Keeper, Announcer and Snack Coordinator. This organization cannot run without everyone's help. Parents are responsible for getting their child to practice and games on time. Football is a team sport and it is very detrimental when team members arrive late or miss practice.

Parents are expected to act responsibly & in the best interest of the children at all times, honoring & agreeing to be bound by the Parental Code of Conduct signed at registration for the duration of the season. COACHING We make every attempt to use local volunteers who have prior coaching and football playing experience. Head coaches apply for the position yearly and are evaluated and approved by the Executive Board of Directors. Additionally, a head coaches' staff is also approved by the AD. If you are interested in coaching, please inform the Athletic Director as soon as possible. As a coach, you are required to attend the clinic and all training sessions. DO NOT ASSUME that because your child is playing football that you are entitled to be a coach. All adults having regular contact with children will be subject to an annual "Megan's Law" background check per PYFL rules, and will be asked to submit information deemed necessary to conduct the background check. There will be no exceptions to this rule. FOOTBALL TEAM ASSIGNMENTS (see Football Playing Divisions Chart) The TITANS are divided into six football divisions. A player is assigned to one of the divisions based upon age and weight. A player's age is based upon their age on September 1, 2017. Every new player must provide an Original state (or county) issued CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH. All Titans players must provide a Utility Bill matching the address on registration to their team manager. If this cannot be provided, then at least one of the following must be furnished: PYFL computer listing of prior certification, passport, military birth registration or ID card, federal government birth certificate. Players must be at least six (6) years old as of September 1, 2017 to be eligible. Players become ineligible for participation when they exceed division weight limit, reach the age of fifteen, or when they enter high school. Freshmen are not permitted to play in PYFL. For the 2017 season the following documentation will be required for all 13yr. old Junior play downs and all Senior players: Final original report card for 2016-2017 school year - no copies will be accepted. If the player is repeating 8th grade, he/she will not be eligible for the PYFL. An appeal may be registered with the PYFL for special circumstances.
