FROM THE GOAL New Jersey Dare Devils Newsletter Reaching Goals Through Hockey NOVEMBER 18, 2017 JOINT PRACTICE ON SATURDAY NEW TIME 4:30 TO 6:00 November 14, 2017 BUFFALO
ANDY S SLAP SHOT We had 17 players and their families attend the Buffalo Hockey Tournament hosted by the Buffalo Sabres Thunder this weekend. We braved the sub freezing weather and a little snow to have an awesome time. We played three high intensity games, ate a lot of bad food, visited the sites of Buffalo and neighboring Niagara Falls and possibly shared an adult beverage or 2 with great friends. The set up for the tournament was great. This was the Piccirillo family s first trip to Buffalo and we were very impressed. The hotel was attached to the rink. The rink was first class and the locker rooms were clean. What else can you ask for? The team got together for a great lunch sponsored by the Sabres Thunder and the Dare Devils hosted a team dinner at the Pearl City Grill & Brewery on Saturday. A great feature of the hotel was a common room off the lobby that provided a great place for the team to socialize between games and in the evening. For a $50 charge per room you enjoyed breakfast in the morning and snacks the rest of the day. Most of us arrived on Friday. Friday night the group got together for a few drinks and some laughs. Missing from the festivities was Coach Ritter. After a thorough search of the hotel I came upon the coach and the longest drive guy in the mists of a reading of Dr. Seuss s the Foot Book. The coach and his friend thought that the book was an ode to their mutual admiration for the foot. Later they realized that it was a children s book. What next? The Dare Devils swept the three games they played in this weekend. Game 1 was against the host team, Buffalo Sabres Thunder. Our team played a great game. Goals were scored by Michael Niemann (2), Nick Ritter (2), Andy Asch, Ryan Griffin, Steven Niemann and Matt Donnelly. We played great defense and our goal tending was fantastic. The team is doing a great job setting up teammates that are in scoring position with a pass. Yes, Coach Ritter and staff, your hard work is paying off. Game 2 against the Rochester Ice Cats went in similar fashion. Goals were scored by Ryan Griffin (2), Carlo Tomasio, Steven Niemann, Anthony Ostlund (2), Matt Donnelly, Vincent Racamato, Andrew Piccirillo, and Chris Glaab. Matt s goal was a laser shot from around the blue line! Great shot Matt! In goal, Matty Brighton gave up only one goal in the 10-1 romp. Game 3 against the Steel City Icebergs went the same way as the other 2 games. The Dare Devils jumped out to an early lead and held that margin for 45 minutes. Goals were scored by Ryan Griffin (2), Carlo Tomasio (2), Michael Niemann (2), Andrew DePiero, Andrew Piccirillo, Tristin Schwarz, Patrick Law, Vincent Racamato and Nick Ritter. All weekend we saw great defense by Patrick Thomas, and great skating and puck handling by Sam Ciemiecki! Our team picture will be taken before practice on Saturday. Please come dressed in your red jersey and ready for the photo by 4:15. We will have a joint practice starting at 4:30 for one hour followed by blessing bag preparation. The team will be providing pizza to the players and their families after practice. Please bring in your donations for the blessing bags on Saturday. See the flyer in the newsletter for more details

My name is Rob Errera, and I am the father of Rocco, a 15-year-old boy with severe autism, and a fellow player on the New Jersey Dare Devils Hockey Team. I've written two books about raising a special needs child, and I'd like all the New Jersey Dare Devils parents, players and coaches to enjoy a complementary copy of my first book, Autism Dad, Vol. 1. All you have to do is join our mailing list at AutismDad.net, and I ll send you a link to the ebook. Don t worry, I promise not to send you any spam, junk or viruses, just a free copy of Autism Dad, Vol. 1 and an email or two letting you know when Autism Dad, Vol. 3 is published later this year. I hope you like the book, and will consider leaving a short review on Amazon, Goodreads, etc. Reviews, both good and bad (though good are better, of course!) really help other readers find the book. Rocco and I also launched a new venture in the Summer of 2017 ItsYourGuitar.com. Now that he s 15, Rocco s educational goals switch to life skills with an eye toward career training. I hope to teach my son how to build and repair guitars. As you know, unemployment rates among special needs adults are sky high. I hope Rocco and I can grow ItsYourGuitar.com to a point where we can hire other special needs adults maybe some of his Dare Devil teammates! to help us build and repair instruments. Visit ItsYourGuitar.com to check out our recent builds, and join the IYG mailing list for your chance to WIN A FREE GUITAR built by Rocco and I! Again, no spams or scams, just trying to connect with people who are interested in what Rocco and I are doing! Thanks and enjoy! Rob Errera Info@autismdad.net
