Dear MJ Sailors and families, Welcome back to season 2014-2015. As most of you will now be aware both the MJ State and National Associations have a new President, and it is with great delight I welcome and congratulate Mr. Mike Salter from Middle Harbour 16 s. Having spent the last ten years of our lives involved in the MJ s it is now time for our family to move on, but there will always be a place in our hearts for the mighty MJ s. My own association with these fabulous little boats began way back in the 1974 when I had my first Mark I MJ 797 Wind Charmer. After two seasons of sailing and many days scouring the gutters and council bins for aluminium cans, I saved the $600 needed to purchase my second MJ 1892 Hey-U. In 2004 the next generation hit the water with our eldest son and daughter sailing MJ 2663 Hey-U II. Next we would acquire MJ 2689 Kiss My Stern for our second eldest son. In 2010 MJ 2781 Goose would become a part of the family with our youngest son taking the helm. So many years, so many regattas, so many, many good times and good friendships made, I would be kidding no-one if I said I won t miss the MJ s. This is of course, not the end of sailing for us. I will continue to crew on an NS14 for as long as the old bones will let me, our eldest will perhaps be the first to introduce the third generation of MJ sailors to the water as he prepares to marry this November. When not studying hard at Uni, our daughter continues to skipper her NS14/MG as well as off-shore racing on a Farr 44. The third will continue to skipper his NS/MG and hopefully pass the HSC this year. Our youngest moves into the F11 s where I m sure a lot of us will cross paths again. Good luck to all the MJ sailors of 2014-2015 and the new Office Bearers and Delegates. Thankyou to all the many people who have walked by my side during my three years as President, it s been and honour and a pleasure. See you on the water somewhere. Genelle

WINTER TRAINING WRAP-UP What a fantastic turnout for the Winter Training with 38 boats registering from 6 different clubs over the two days. A big thankyou to all those involved from Manly 16 s and Manly Yacht Club as well as all our coaches and on-water support. We are hoping that we can offer the same support to our sailors again, so please keep an eye out around the same time next year to register participation. MANLY JUNIOR SPONSORSHIP Year after year the costs associated with conducting regattas increases. Some of these expenses include the Associations Insurances, Host Club Outgoings, Trophies, Safety and Support Equipment. In recent years in an attempt to achieve a financial break-even, we have sought the help of Sponsors. Currently we are in conversations with several interested corporates who are happy to support with services and gear however financial contributions are needed. The Association(s) are currently seeking financial assistance by asking all MJ families and/or businesses to consider pitching in a limited contribution to help fund a race. By making a small contribution you will have your name on the program and the chance to present a prize. For more information and a Sponsorship Package email manly.junior@gmail.com CLASS GROWTH AND PROMOTION The MJ Association has recently been approached by Mel Yeomans of Deck Hardware who is in the process of pulling together the Sydney Sailboat Expo. This promises to be a boat show for dinghy sailors and would offer a great opportunity to showcase the MJ to young sailors. Further discussions are yet to be had to confirm our involvement and support. In the meantime check out the Sydney Sailboat Expo website. HISTORICAL UPDATES The MJ Journals from 1966-2001 are slowly making their way to the website, for a wonderful trip down memory lane http://www.mj.yachting.org.au/assoc_page.cgi?c=0-10053-0-0-0&sid=324021
