Metamora Hunt Newsletter Early June 2016 www.metamorahunt.com Contact Information: Hounds & Hunting By Joe Maday, MFH Honorary Secretary: Michelle Mortier: 586-914-5802 michelle1mortier@gmail.com Masters of Fox Hounds Mr. Joe Maday: 810.678.8384 Mr. Ken Matheis: 248.431.4093 Mrs. Deborah Bates Pace: 810.678.8762 Hunts go out every Wednesday, and Saturday mid- August to mid-april, weather permitting. Please contact michelle1mortier@gmail.com for a complete list of locations, dates and times. Always call the Hunt Hotline: 810.678.2711 for weather or information updates on any Hunt related event. Save the Date! Summer Hunter Pace - July 10th Starting at 8am Just last week the Metamora Hunt Horse Show management team sadly learned that the majority of the trainers and riders that we were expecting to participate in our June horse show have decided to attend a show at the Kentucky Horse Park that is being held the same weekend as our Metamora Hunt Show. As a result, our show is not viable this year due to such a low number of entries. We apologize for this situation and wanted to inform you as quickly as possible. Our horse show is the longest running horse show in the state of Michigan, but regretfully we will not be able to hold it this year. We do have strong hopes of holding our horse show again next year. The Metamora Hunt continues to be healthy and vibrant. This situation with our 2016 horse show is

just a temporary bump in the road. The Landowner s Picnic has been moved to the Hunt Kennels on Barber Rd. We hope that you can join us for dinner and party on Saturday, June 11th. Additional News: Puppy Walks Continue this Month The Metamora Hunt is seeking Volunteers to help walk puppies. Starting last month, Huntsman Adrian Smith and some fun loving Volunteers take our fox hound puppies out for a short walk on leads. Puppy Walks will take place at 5pm every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, weather permitting. All you need to do to participate is to arrive at the Hunt Kennels (5614 Barber Rd.) before 5pm. Do dress in outdoor clothing that can withstand some attention from our friendly pups. As always, be sure to check the message on the kennel answering machine (810-678-2711) for weather updates and other information. For additional information contact Joe Maday, MFH: 810-678-8384. Gather your friends! Ride English or Western. Come ride with us at your own pace. Whether walking, trotting, or competing for a fastest time ribbon, you will enjoy the beauty of the Metamora Hunt Country on a clearly marked trail. Snacks and beverages are provided to riders on the Pace course. Adults and junior riders are welcome! No jumping required. Helmets must be worn by all riders. Riders will be started after registration in teams of 2-4. If you do not have a team, we will be happy to make one for you. Ribbons will be awarded to 1st. through 6th. place teams in both the Fastest time and the Optimum time divisions. Hound Walking: including Members is available most non hunting mornings. Huntsman and Staff are on bicycles on some days. Contact one of our MFHs for additional information. Please call the Kennels (810-678-2711) for updates. Tornado Siren Test We would like you to be aware that tornado sirens will be tested in the Metamora Countryside on the first Saturday of each month at 1pm through November. So, you might want to keep this in mind as you work with or ride your horses on the first Saturday of each month. The cost to ride in the Hunter Pace is $35 per adult, $25 per junior (17 and under). An approved helmet, with chin strap fastened, must be worn at all times

while mounted. Entry Forms and Hold Harmless releases are available on the Hunt website. For additional information contact: Bob Carden: 586-907-8594 Save the Date! Metamora Hunt Trail Rides The Metamora Hunt Stable Tour will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2016. Please save the date and make plans to bring friends to our self-guided tour of some of the Metamora Countryside's most beautiful and unique stables. Tickets will be offered for sale starting in July. For additional information please contact Joe Maday, MFH, 810.678.8384. We are happy to announce that the next Trail Ride is scheduled for this Saturday, June 4th, Leaving the Hunt Kennels (5614 Barber Rd., Metamora, MI 48455) promptly at 10am. Always call the Hunt Hotline: 810.678.2711 for weather or information updates on any Hunt related event. These trail rides will be structured to provide training and fitness exercise for experienced as well as beginning fox hunters and their mounts. Participants' horses must be able to walk and trot safely and calmly in a group, outside of a ring. Safety is always our first concern. An approved riding helmet must be worn while mounted. The Hunt reserves the right to accept or turn away riders as it sees fit. A Hold Harmless Liability Release must be signed for the Metamora Hunt. Just click: http://www.metamorahunt.com/wpcontent/uploads/2012/04/2012release.pdf Depending on footing, we will use the roads, the Hunter Trials Grounds near the kennels, and as footing permits, the trails of the Metamora Countryside. In addition to fitness exercise, we will teach and practice safety skills specific to fox hunting. Pony Club News By Lisa McCormack In the month of May, our club had a testing for four of our members at Orchard Hill Farm. The weather was quite challenging including hail, but Kalin, Chloe, Allison and Emily persevered and advanced in their rating levels. Congratulations! On the same day, Olivia represented our club by participating in the Everything But the Horse Rally at Aberdeen Farm in Northville. She enjoyed the rally and had fun taking on the responsibility of being captain of her team. Her team was made up of members from many different clubs in the Great Lakes Region. Besides these activities, we had two meetings in May. Our first one included members going over their horse s record books and making sure our club rally kits were reviewed and stocked for the coming show season. Our next meeting was held at Banbury Cross Therapeutic Riding Center where

Trail Ride dates, times, and locations will be posted to current Metamora Hunt Members by email. Non members may contact Bob Carden (586-907-8594) for information. Trail Rides are offered at no charge to current Members (Riding Members, Benefactors, Social Members, and Friends of the Hunt for 2016). A $20 donation to the support of our hounds is accepted from all additional riders. For additional information contact Bob Carden: or 586.907.8594. Trail Trimming The Metamora Hunt organizes a number of Trail Trimming Work Days each summer. We gather our members, and volunteers from the countryside, to trim the trails and remove unwanted downed limbs on properties whose owners have asked our help. We will begin our trail trimming work days in mid June. Dates will be announced via email. We usually meet on preplanned Saturday mornings at the Hunt Kennels, break into work parties of 3-5 people, and work on specific trails under the direction of the Hunt. Landowners who would like help from the Metamora Hunt with the equestrian trails on their property should contact our leaders: Joe Maday, MFH: 810-678-8384 Ken Matheis, MFH: 248-431-4093 Deborah Bates Pace,MFH: 810-678-8762 If you would like to volunteer on Trail Trimming Days, please respond to the contact information that is given in the Trail Trimming announcements. Please Note: Crescent Ridge Farms' new website:www.crescentridgefarm.biz the girls practiced their jogs with Waco and Indy. They also heard a presentation on horse nutrition from Kaila, Leah and Brooke.
