MONTGOMERY COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT COMPREHENSIVE STUDENT PICK-UP / DROP-OFF PROCEDURE CHANGES In an effort to provide a safer transportation environment, the Montgomery County School District Police Department has assessed the traffic conditions at each school within the district. The assessment considered the needs and safety of: (1) students who are dropped off and/or picked up at all of the schools; (2) student drivers at the high school; (3) parents; and (4) school employees. Please note the following changes at each school: Montgomery County High School Any vehicle picking up or dropping off a student needs to do so in the parking lot/curb area located beside the Barn gymnasium and the new MCHS Arena. All vehicles should enter the lot using the entrance on Woodford Drive located nearest to the Barn gymnasium, or near Central Office and exit using only left turns onto Woodford Drive from the parking lot. Students driving personal vehicles will park in the lot designated as the Student Parking Area located adjacent to the gymnasium, football field, and soccer field. Student drivers will also enter the lot using the entrance located adjacent to the Barn or Central Office on Woodford Drive, and exit using only left turns onto Woodford Drive from the parking lot. The vehicles of student drivers must be identified with parking decals issued by the Montgomery County School District Police Department. There will be no student pick up or drop off in the main office area of the school, as that area is designated for staff and school bus traffic. School buses will be entering from Camargo Road/U.S. 460 and will not use the Levee Road/Route 11 entrance to Woodford Drive. Students should also not be picked up or dropped off at any other location along Woodford Drive because it creates a safety hazard. It should be noted that the access road in the rear of the building located between the Building 3 and Maintenance is closed to through traffic. It is for school bus and authorized staff use only. McNabb Middle School Any vehicle dropping off a student can do so in the main parking lot located in the front of the school. Students cannot be picked up or dropped off in the parking lot located behind the cafeteria in the rear of McNabb Middle School. This area is designated for authorized staff and school bus traffic only. In addition, no traffic except school buses will be allowed to enter the school bus loop adjacent to the gymnasium at any time during the school day.
Mapleton Elementary Any vehicle picking up or dropping off a student can do so by following the check out procedures that are currently in place. The back entrance and parking area are for buses and authorized staff use only. No outside traffic will be permitted. There will be traffic modifications made to the front parking lot at Mapleton Elementary. The loop accessing the school parking lot will now be one way only. All traffic will enter to the right, adjacent the fire station, and exit on the side closest to the pool. Signs will be posted and school administrators will be on hand to aid in the transition. Mount Sterling Elementary: Mount Sterling Elementary has experienced the largest growth in the number of students being picked up and/or dropped off. As a result, an innovative plan has been developed to enable more vehicles to enter school grounds. Individuals dropping students off each morning will continue to do so using the front entrance of the school. For afternoon pick up of students, vehicles entering from the By-Pass will turn right into the parking lot into a single file line. The line will wind through the front parking lot and into the rear parking area. Once bus traffic has cleared from the rear parking area, students will be released to the appropriately marked vehicle (as is the current procedure). Camargo Elementary: Students may be picked up or dropped off in the front of Camargo Elementary using the existing, clearly marked, entrance and exit. Vehicles should not attempt to make a left turn from the parking lot during heavy morning and afternoon traffic. Students cannot be picked up or dropped off in the bus loop at any time. School administrators are on site during the stated traffic times to assist in controlling the flow of traffic in school parking lots and student cross walks. Please be mindful and aware of this when traveling on US Hwy 460. Please be reminded that these changes are being made in an effort to provide a safer transportation environment for our students and staff members of the Montgomery County School District, as well as parents and visitors. The district asks for your cooperation and patience while the changes are implemented. Mike Martin Director of Law Enforcement
