Magic forward BO OUTLAW spent the 2003-04 season with the Grizzlies, playing in 82 games while averaging 4.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Current Orlando Magic Head Coach BRIAN HILL coached the Vancouver Grizzlies for better than two seasons (1996-97 through 1999-00, 22 games) compiling a 31-123 (.201) record. Grizzlies Assistant Coach LIONEL HOLLINS was also an assistant under Hill during that time. Tonight s game features three players from Duke University, including the Magic s GRANT HILL and J.J. REDICK and the Grizzlies DAHNTAY JONES. All three players were named All-ACC during their college career while both Hill and Redick earned ACC Player of the Year honors.

STEADY STOUDAMIRE: Damon Stoudamire dished out a preseason-high nine assists without committing a single turnover in last night s win over the Miami Heat. Stoudamire has been solid with the basketball during the preseason, averaging 4.0 assists and 0.8 turnovers, ranking him fifth in the league in assists per turnover at 5.0 AST/TO (20 assists/4 turnovers). A.J. DOUBLES-UP FOR FIRST TIME: Rookie Alexander Johnson became the first Grizzly to post a double-double in the 2006 preseason, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench vs. Chicago on Oct. 16. Johnson shot 3-of-6 from the floor, 5-of-6 from the free throw line and pulled down six of his rebounds on the offensive end the most by a Grizzly this preseason. Johnson is among the top rookies in a number of categories (See Rookie Review ). D.JONES STEPPING UP: After averaging 4.0 ppg on 41.4% shooting from the field, 14.3% shooting from three-point range and 64.5% shooting from the free throw line a year ago, Dahntay Jones has stepped up his play during the preseason to the tune of 11.4 ppg on 57.6% shooting from the field, 33.3% shooting from three-point range and 85.7% shooting from the free throw line. Jones has also improved his rebounding from 1.5 rpg during 2005-06 to 2.4 rpg during the 2006 preseason. ROOKIE RUDY GAY LEADING THE WAY: After a preseason-high 21 points on Oct. 14 vs. Detroit, Grizzlies rookie Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies in scoring (includes ties) in each of their first three preseason games. Gay sat out Monday s game vs. Chicago with a bruised chest muscle, but returned last night to again lead the team in scoring with 14 points on 5-11 shooting, including 2-5 shooting from three-point range. Gay leads not only the Grizzlies, but all rookies in the NBA in scoring during the preseason, averaging 16.0 points to go along with 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.50 steals and 1.75 blocks. Consequently, Gay is among the top rookies in a number of other categories during the preseason (See Rookie Review ). Gay finished with a team-high 15 points, Alexander Johnson contributed 13 points and Kyle Lowry had 12 points. A recap of the Grizzlies offseason moves is below: Date Transaction _ June 28 Selected Kyle Lowry in the first round (24 th overall) of the 2006 NBA Draft June 28 Acquired the draft rights to Alexander Johnson from Portland (via Indiana) in exchange for a 2008 second round pick July 12 Acquired Stromile Swift and the draft rights to Rudy Gay (eighth pick in the 2006 NBA Draft) in exchange for Shane Battier July 13 Signed rookie free agent Tarence Kinsey July 25 Waived Anthony Roberson August 1 Signed free agent Lorinza Junior Harrington October 1 Signed free agents Laron Profit and Kimani Ffriend INTERNATIONAL PAU-ER LEADS SPAIN TO GOLD; GRIZZ PAU-ERLESS START TO SEASON: Pau Gasol and the Spanish National Team captured their first world title in international competition in the 2006 FIBA World Championships. Despite missing the championship game after suffering a broken bone in his left foot in the semifinals, Gasol was selected as the tournament s MVP. Gasol also finished as the tournament s third leading scorer (21.3 ppg) and second leading rebounder (9.4 rpg). The Grizzlies will now have to find a way to make up for Gasol s absence after posting one of the best seasons of his young career in 2005-06. After finishing his fifth NBA season, Gasol found himself ranked among the top 20 in the league in over 15 statistical categories, and among a number of the Western Conference s elite forwards. The Grizzlies streak of 12 losses without a victory is the longest for any team before it s first playoff win in NBA history, and also stands as the league s record for consecutive playoff losses overall. The previous record was 11 consecutive postseason losses, set by the Denver Nuggets (1988-1994) and the Baltimore Bullets (1965-70). The Grizzlies and Nuggets join the Portland Trail Blazers (10 consecutive postseason losses from 2000-2003) as the only three teams over the last 20 years to have lost 10 or more consecutive postseason games. GRIZZ STELLAR AT FEDEXFORUM; POST SECOND-MOST HOME WINS IN FRANCHISE HISTORY: Winners of 12 of their final 13 regular season games at home in 2006 (including a streak of five consecutive home wins to close out the regular season), the Grizzlies record at FedExForum during the regular season improved to 30-11 extending the mark for the second-most home victories in a single season in franchise history. Coming off the bench in 65 of 74 games played this season, Miller averaged 13.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He recorded double figures in scoring in 54 games, including 16 games of 20 points or more and two games of 30 or more (season-high 41 vs. Denver on March 17). - Pau Gasol appeared in his first All-Star game, finishing with a game-high 12 rebounds, including a game-high six on the offensive end (tied with Tim Duncan) in 14 minutes of action. GRIZZLIES HEAD COACH, MIKE FRATELLO Mike Fratello joined the Grizzlies on December 2, 2004, becoming the seventh head coach in franchise history. Fratello came to the Grizzlies as one of the NBA s most successful coaches in history, ranking 19 th on the all-time wins list and 21 st on the all-time games coached list when he joined the team. A 16-year coaching veteran, his teams have qualified for the NBA playoffs in 11 of his 16 seasons as a head coach. His success carried over immediately into his position with the Grizzlies. The team went 9-6 after he took over in December 2004, then went an incredible 12-3 in January 2005, earning Fratello the NBA s Western Conference Coach of the Month Award. He earned his 600 th career win as a head coach on March 4, 2005, only the 19 th coach all-time to reach the 600-win plateau. He finished out the regular season by guiding the Grizzlies to their second winning season, and second playoff appearance. His second season with the Grizzlies was equally impressive. With a roster that had been overhauled prior to the season, and the loss of Damon Stoudamire in December to a season-ending knee injury, the team still won more games than they did the previous season, and qualified for the playoffs for the third year in a row. Their winning ways led to Fratello passing Hubie Brown in April as the winningest coach in franchise history.
