Team Managers: Basketball Men s Basketball Women s Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) is the lead body for Commonwealth Sport in Scotland and is responsible for selecting, preparing and managing Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. For every Games, CGS in partnership with basketballscotland and sportscotland, aim to deliver the best prepared Basketball team possible, creating the right environment and giving athletes every opportunity to excel. The 2018 Games will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia from 4 until 15 April 2018 and CGS, with basketballscotland, is seeking to appoint an appropriately skilled person, with appropriate basketballscotland team management experience, for the position of Team Manager: Basketball for each of the Men s and Women s team. Role Description: Team Manager: Basketball Area of Operation: The Basketball Team Manager position is a crucial role within the Basketball Team for the Commonwealth Games. Working in conjunction with the basketballscotland Performance Team, the successful candidate will be expected to lead on the management of the Basketball Team as part of Team Scotland 2018 in the build up to and during the 2018 Commonwealth Games, co-ordinating and communicating all Team-related information between Commonwealth Games Scotland, basketballscotland and the coaches and athletes. Responsible For: The prospective & selected athletes, appointed coaches, and sport specific support staff selected to work with Basketball. Responsible To: Pre-Games: Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) Head of Games Operations and basketballscotland During the Games: Team Scotland s Deputy Chef De Mission or General Team Manager: Performance Services & basketballscotland National Performance Coach. Post Games: basketballscotland Head of Performance for sports specific debrief and Commonwealth Games Scotland for Games debrief. Anticipated Time Requirement: The post starts in April 2017 and runs until May 2018 and includes: Attendance at pre-games Team Management preparation programme, site visit to the Gold Coast, including regular evening meetings; Team Camps (see appendix.1); and other events as required. Full time from the start of the Basketball preparation camp to return with the Team at the end of the Games. General Duties a) Pre-Games Duties Act as the first point of contact with CGS for the sport on Team related activities. Distribute information from CGS to prospective athletes, support staff and basketballscotland. Responsible for the administration and the inputting of information, as required by CGS and Games organisers, to the Games management system. Attend and contribute to CGS Team Preparation Programme, pre-games Team Camps and sport specific final preparation camp. Liaise with CGS on provision of sport specific Games clothing, equipment provision, Games time training and transportation requirements. 3
Ensure compliance in all aspects with Commonwealth Games and International Federation regulations. Attend site visits as required and identify and communicate all requirements for Games time. Input to the development of Team Scotland policies and procedures and ensuring adherence to the agreed policies. Collection of sport flag bearer votes. Check accreditation requirements and access requirements with CGS. Advise CGS of athlete entries and check events are correct. Management of Basketball team athletes, coaches and other support staff when within a Games Team environment such as at Team Camps. Promote and maintain team ethos as outlined in the code of conduct and Team Member Agreement. Promote Games Team sponsors/partners as part of Games team duties. Attend Team functions as required. b) During Games Communicate with sport staff and athletes such information as required from Team Scotland management and Games organisers. Coordinate provision of training facilities and equipment. Check all entries and ensure competition kits and numbers comply with Games and International Federation regulations at relevant Technical meetings and precompetition. Attend all sport technical meetings. Responsible for ensuring effective daily communication of all information within Team Scotland. Check the Sports Technical Desk on a daily and regular basis. Co-ordinate with Transport General Team Manager to ensure all athletes can access their entered events. Support Team Coach as appropriate to ensure athlete needs are met. Manage all appeals/protests during competition. Arrange support from Team staff for athletes when required for doping control. Collate individual athlete and sport significant results against Games Team performance targets and pass to the Head of Media and Team Office as soon as possible after they occur. Promote and help maintain team ethos and ensure sport section compliance with team member agreement and code of conduct and assist application. Responsible for decision making on behalf of Team Scotland relating to Basketball. Contribute to Team Scotland review as required. Attend all Team functions as required. 4
c) Post-Games Duties Responsible for ensuring CGS fully aware of any outstanding matters that require completion or follow up. Attend all post Games CGS functions, as required. Produce report to CGS on individual and sport performances against targets and attend any required debrief meetings. Work with the basketballscotland Head of Performance & Education and Chief Executive Officer to ensure a full debrief is conducted and report is produced in relation to pre-games preparation, Games time delivery and any other relevant matters. Sport Specific Duties Work with basketballscotland Performance Team, which includes the Head of Performance and National Performance Coach Support the basketballscotland Head of Performance and National Performance Coach in the lead up to and during the Commonwealth Games Attend and contribute to all basketballscotland pre-games camps and test series events Work with the long list athletes in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games on all Games related matters to solicit and act upon, where appropriate, athlete related requests Person Type This role would suit a person: who is well organised, has strong interpersonal and communication skills. who has the ability to work as part of a wider team in a structured manner. who is calm, resourceful and the ability to cope with rapid change and working with different cultures. with previous experience in managing international teams. with significant experience of high performance environments. with an understanding of the needs of all prospective team members and understand the pressure during Games time. with experience of working with and supporting elite athletes. meets basketballscotland minimum operating standards i.e. PVG and safeguarding it is desirable that the person has a good technical knowledge of Basketball. 5
