Tulsa Police Department www.tulsapolice.org TPD on Facebook TPD on Twitter Crime Stoppers (918) 596-COPS Disturbing the Peace The City of Tulsa has an ordinance that prohibits disturbing the peace. The ordinance says it is an offense for any person to willfully or maliciously disturb the public peace or quietude or the life, health, or safety of any individual in any manner, by creating any noise of such character or duration so as to be unreasonably loud or disturbing You can read the full text of the ordinance online at http://www.cityoftulsa.org/media/50504/title_27_s20.pdf (Chapter 14). Thieves know and will check all the hiding spots. Do not put personal identification on key rings. If your key ring is lost, you sure don t want a potential thief to know what your keys fit. From the Major s Desk With the warmer temperatures, it is tempting to leave windows opened a crack while running errands or visiting parks. Remember, it only takes a second for a bad guy to get in your vehicle and snatch those CDs, loose change, wallets or ID that you thought were hidden under the seat. In addition, a bad guy can grab your insurance verification form to see where you leave and your garage door opener -- an easy key to your home. Keep your doors and windows locked and your opener out of sight.

Disturbing the Peace (Continued from Pg 1) Tulsa Police enforce Disturbing the Peace by issuing a will-file citation. Will-file simply means that the person disturbed has to sign the citation. Officers must have a complainant willing to file the charge in order to take action. On duty TPD officers cannot be disturbed by noise in the legal sense. Dispatch complaint takers will generally ask if you are willing to file charges, before dispatching an officer. If you are not willing to file the charge by signing the citation, or if you wish to remain anonymous, officers will be told of noise in the area, but cannot take enforcement action. A citation for Disturbing the Peace carries a preset fine of $50. If the defendant is found guilty in Municipal Court, the judge may impose a fine of up to $200.
