Invite potential buyers-don t demand they come. 2018 San Patricio County 4-H Photography Show Starting January 1, 2018 entries for the 4-H County Photography Show will be accepted via Shutterfly. The Deadline for all entries is Wednesday, January 17, 2018 by 4pm. Awards program will be tentatively for Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 5:30pm at the County Extension Office. You can pick up a complete list of contest objectives & rules at the Extension Office or visit the County website http://sanpatricio.agrilife.org. Number of Entries: A participant may have only one entry per category per age group for a total of fifteen (15) entries per participant. This year s theme is Backyard. A&H Show ~ Buyer Letter This is a good time to start identifying potential buyers for the A&H Show. Exhibitors are encouraged to write letters inviting business owners, family and friends to come out and support the San Patricio/ Aransas County A&H Show. Writing a Buyer Letter Encourage them to come support the entire show-don t just ask them to come to the auction. Please DO NOT tell them I want you to buy my project. If you do a good job writing your letter and extending a general invitation to the show, they will remember you & look to support you at the show. The San Patricio County Extension Office will be closed January 1 & January 15, 2018.

Clover T ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emily Mutchler Clover T 4-H meeting was held December 10, at the Taft Lutheran Church. Savanna Olsen led the Pledge of Allegiance. Taryn O Brien led the 4-H Motto and the 4-H Pledge and Trinity O Brien led the 4-H Prayer. Andrea Rowe called roll and read minutes from last meeting. Taylor O Brien gave a report on the county council meeting. Taylor also reviewed old business. She discussed buyer letters and pen decorations. New business we discussed ideas for community service and votes. Meeting was adjourned. Mathis ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kylie Rodriguez On Wednesday, November 22, the Mathis 4-H members delivered a thank you basket to U.S. Ecology for their generous donation towards the club raffle. We also delivered a Thanksgiving dinner give away to Mr. and Mrs. Fernando and family, there were very grateful and happy to receive this meal. On Monday, December 4, we did our Christmas caroling at the Palma Real Nursing Home for the residents and handed out Christmas cards. It was nice to see all the joyful faces. HOMEMAKING ENTRIES This is an excellent time to prepare handicrafts, textiles, garments and practice your food entries for the 2018 A&H Show! You are eligible to apply for the Area Go Texan Scholarship if you are a citizen of the U.S., Texas resident, 2017-2018 graduating senior, ranked in the top 1/3 of class, attend a public high school in one of the 68 participating counties, plan to attend college in Texas and participate in a curriculum leading to a bachelor s degree, must score at least 950 on SAT or 19 on ACT, must meet general scholarship qualifications, and meet the deadlines. Submit a design and see it on next year s official t-shirt Entry Deadline: February 14, 2018 Submission Rules: Must be a 4-H member Can use 2 ink colors in addition to the color of shirt. Example: if the design calls for red, white & blue one of those colors should be the color of the shirt. Please do not select white as the shirt color choice. Design should fit on the front side of shirt (12 in design max) Simple designs are more effective & easier to screen print. Designs will have to be modified slightly to include proper clover logo and to clean up details Must Love Dogs! A FREE t-shirt of the overall chosen design will be given to the winners of the top design in each age group - Junior, Intermediate and Senior. TEXAS 4-H DOG VALIDATION PROCESS Deadline: January 10, 2018 Visit 4-H CONNECT though the Texas 4-H and Youth Development website to begin the process. PAGE 4 BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR VALIDATION PROCESS, YOU MUST: Have a family and youth member profile established on 4-H Connect. Be a paid/active youth member of Texas 4-H for the 2017-2018 year. Have clear digital photos of your dog(s) from left side and right side. These photos must be accessible for upload during the validation process. IMPORTANT ~ Dog Certification is completed for EACH DOG and will cover all 4-H Youth members in that family profile. However when certifying your dogs on 4-H CONNECT, you will select ONLY ONE 4-H youth member to conduct the certification under. Once a dog is certified and you begin registering for the State Dog Show, the certified dog(s) can be moved to the appropriate 4-H member that will be exhibiting the dog in the show. Attendance for the 2018 Show starts in January, 2017. You must also meet UIL academic eligibility requirements by passing all of your classes. Start out the 4-H year right by attending club meetings and keeping your grades up! New 4-H members must also attend 60% of their club meeting, however, their club attendance begins on Sept. 1, 2017. Only new 4-H members will be allowed to count January 2018 attendance. ADULT VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK To protect our 4-H members, the Texas 4-H Program administers an adult screening program. This screening is conducted every 3 years. All adults who will be working directly with youth (other than their own children) must complete the adult registration form on 4-H Connect to be screened. Once their registration has been approved from the State office, then we can certify those adults as San Patricio County volunteers. Only those adults who have been screened and cleared through YPS will have the privilege of working with 4-H members. There is a $5 annual fee for each adult who will be a Volunteer. This fee is paid on 4-H Connect.
