Foundation for Over the past few years we have watched as the miniature Hereford breed continues to grow and evolve throughout the country. With the many different sectors and markets spread all over, it has been difficult for the many organizations, breeders, show exhibitors and miniature Hereford loyalist to keep up with the growing demand for sponsored shows, events and functions. Many times the only way for our fellow red & white loyalist provide. Many times this involves the continued support and sometimes monetary burden that a few of our foundation breeders endure in pursuit of a promising future for all, and Texas is no exception to this pattern. As, many of you from the Lone Star state have witnessed, we too have seen the incredible growth and interest not only for the miniature Hereford breed, but the over whelming interest in the Junior shows across the state. I can personally attest to the boots on the ground efforts that so many of you have done over the last couple of years in an effort to promote the Miniature Herefords and the continued support for the next generation of cattlemen. Over the last year I have discussed the pros and cons that we have all encountered across the state and many of you have conveyed the same response time and again, and that s how do we sustain the obligations we have and how do we give back without totally relying on the breeders that continually support our efforts. During last year s show season, both Tiffanie and I discussed many options on how to do more for our juniors. We both agreed that we had to do something that everyone wanted to buy into, something that would get not only breeders, junior showmen and new comers alike excited, but something that possibly could get many cattlemen to raise an eyebrow.. After contemplating options after option, one idea always stayed with me. As grand an idea that it was at the time I could not help but feel the over whelming rejection that most likely would follow. So, after a couple of months of thought and consideration we took the leap of faith. During the Granddaddy of all Junior livestock shows we thought we would ask the biggest favor of one of the breed s biggest supporters. I ll never forget talking with Steve and Judy Splitt about this monumental endeavor. It was truly one of those moments when you feel that you are having an out of body experiences, but you are in a perfectly clear discussion with someone. We told Steve and Judy of our idea and what our goals where for the breed and how we felt all roads led through the next generation of showman. After we laid out our idea and plan, Steve Looked over at us without hesitation I m in We couldn t help but think of what this was going to do for not only our junior showmen here in Texas, but also what our fellow breeders in this great State would have to say. I mean would they over whelming accept this grand gesture or find flaw in the prospect of this venture. Needless to say the 3 hour drive home felt like it took 20 minutes, I just had one thought after another, until a phrase that has served me well in not only my personal life, but my professional

the Future 2014 Texas Breeders Foundation Raffle one came to mind If you know its right in our heart, then more than likely it was the right decision. Over the coming months Tiffanie, Myself and a band of brothers worked our magic in promoting the anticipated Foundation Female. However, I couldn t help but wonder what Steve had in the works for our humble idea. I mean anything was a start and let s not forget we were getting some of the top genetics in the country no matter what Steve and Judy sent our way. After a couple of months of anticipation Steve let the cat out of the Bag that he had a heifer that he was really excited to send our way. Over the coming weeks Judy conveyed that Steve was really anticipating the delivery of this female, and that s when I told Tiffanie I think we really got something in the works. We had gotten to know the Splitt Creek family over the year and I can truly say that Steve had a great eye for cattle, we both share a passion for developing the best genetics possible and every time the Splitt Creek name came into conversation, I couldn t help but to think of what Steve was sending to Texas. Don t get me wrong this is all defiantly for the kids, but the idea that Splitt Creek sending us one of their finest always had my interest. In mid-august we traveled to the Iowa State Fair and met up with the Splitt Creek family. It was at that time that we finally got to lay an eye on this highly anticipated heifer. Jade, didn t really want to be a show heifer that day, but I will never forget when my brother and I had the opportunity to assist with getting her ready. I just remembering thinking one day this female is going to be big time good. Two weeks later on a hot day in late August this future foundation heifer made her way to the heart of the Lone Star State. I m sure she didn t share the same enthusiasm to be here as we did, however, the early morning baths and life under the fans helped lesson the burden I m sure. We still cannot express our gratitude to the Splitt Family, all of our supporters and the countless individuals that have spent their time and money investing in the future of our Youth. We are truly proud of these folks and blessed to have them as friends and neighbors. I think I could go on forever thanking each and every one of them. I just hope that everyone will stop by and admire the first foundation female here at Houston. I say this will no uncertainty that she is without a doubt one of the best females to pass through the gates of Reliant Park in Houston. I feel somewhat greedy in the fact that I have gotten to spend as much time as I have with this female, not just from the position of what I hope will be the payoff of our youngsters, but just the grace of an animal of this caliber in our barn. She is truly in my mind an industry great and no doubt a true foundation female to build any program around. - Kevyn Ivy - If you are interested in purchasing a heifer ticket, please find a Texas Breeders Foundation member. Only 250 tickets are available. Proceeds benefit youth projects, shows and scholarships.

Lot 1 Steer 43397472 7/3/13 JAM SUGAR RAY J&M Farm DD DIABLO Sire: JAM HUSKY LIL DEVIL SF MISS TOUGH HUSKY SK79 KAP LIL ROCKIN ELVIS Dam: KBH LITTLE JULIET KAP TEDDY S ELIZABETH Sometimes the hardest decision in putting together a sale is which animal will hold the coveted lot one spot. While sometimes pedigree dictates the selection, other times it s the animal s conformation & make up that gives it the title. This year s sale has been no different. When we sat down and started to compile the sale catalog I thought that this year s selection would be pretty simple, and I had my mind all but made up for months on which animal deserved the top honor. Then in August we got a call from one of the breeds biggest supporters and oh did he have a knock out for us You see it wasn t just the animals confirmation, or that this calf stemmed from a program that has seen many young individuals find their way to the backdrop, it s what the consigners wanted to do with the calf that made it a no brainer for us. It s with great honor and appreciation that we introduce Lot 1 from J&M Farms, SUGAR RAY! Sugar Ray is sired by JAM s Husky Little Devil, and out of a great cow that steams from some of the top genetics of the KAP heard. Husky s Little Devil already started things off on the right foot for J&M, as some of the top showmen on the TJLA circuit have found success with this young sires offspring. 100% of the proceeds from this lot go to the next generation of cattlemen. Meredith, June and the Roberts family have decided to give all the money raised for this lot back to the Texas Breeders Foundation, to insure continued support of our youth activities for the miniature Hereford breeds young exhibitors.

I once tore out the bottom corner of an article from The Showbox magazine. It said. That little piece of paper has been on my bedside table and Dee Grosberg s quote graces the back of my business cards. I love that quote and work every day to make it true. This past year I have had the pleasure of meeting so many exceptional people in the livestock industry, legends in their own right for the knowledge they all possess. I am humbled daily that these people would help me, guide me and answer my daily phone calls I am lucky enough to call many of them my dear friends. From my friends at TJLA to breeders and all the youth showmen, I am lucky to know all of you. The breeders that support me in anything and everything that I ask of them. They have been my backbone, my support and my best friends. I can t thank you enough for all your love and dedication to this foundation. I am so thankful that I am able to be passionate about what I do. I am able to work for incredible, generous breeders, sell great cattle and support the next generation of cattlemen. The kids are the reason that I do this, the enjoyment in the show ring and the life lessons that they learn outside of it. Thank you for letting me do what I love. If you ever need anything, I am just a phone call away. Thank you for coming to the sale- I hope to see you again next year! See you in the Show barn, Tiffanie Zunker President & Founder- Texas Breeders Foundation
