LAST WEEKEND: Thursday against Denver, Seattle University shot 55.6 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free throw line, but 26 Redhawk turnovers led to 31 Pioneer points as Denver picked up a 72-55 victory at Magness Arena. Luiz Bidart shot 4-for-5 from the field, including 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line, and 3-for-3 from the free throw line to finish with a season-high 14 points. Clarence Trent contributed 10 points, and Jack Crook performed well off the bench with eight points and five rebounds. Saturday at New Mexico State, Seattle U hung with the Aggies throughout the night, but the Redhawks could not close the deal, as New Mexico State held on for a 60-57 win at the Pan American Center. Deshaun Sunderhaus saw his first significant action since injuring his left ankle Jan. 31, leading the Redhawks with 14 points, while Chad Rasmussen scored 12 points off the bench as the starting lineup saw significant changes. CLEAN OUT THE CLOSET: Seattle University Athletics is teaming with the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Seattle/King County for a clothing drive during this weekend s games at KeyArena. Donation boxes will be on site as fans are encouraged to bring clothing, shoes, coats, hats, and any other apparel items just taking up space in the closet. All clothes collected will be resold at one of the five St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores throughout King County.

SCOUTING LOUISIANA TECH: The Bulldogs bring a 13- game winning streak into Thursday s game, posting a 21-3 overall record and a perfect 12-0 record in conference play. Louisiana Tech is one of eight Division I teams remaining with an unblemished conference record. The Bulldogs are scoring 72.7 points per game and giving up 62.7 points per contest. As a team, Louisiana Tech is shooting 40.6 percent from the field, including 31.2 percent from behind the threepoint line, and 71.8 percent from the free throw line. Raheem Appleby leads the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game, followed by Cordarius Johnson with 9.0 points per game. Michale Kyser leads the way with 5.9 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots per game, tops in the WAC and ninth in the country in that category. FIRST MEETING: Behind a then-career-high 19 points from Clarence Trent, Seattle University stuck with the conference leaders for the vast majority of the night, but Louisiana Tech used a significant advantage from the free throw line to pull away late, 78-71, Jan. 19 at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La. Louisiana Tech took its first lead of the game on a three-pointer by Jaron Johnson 30 seconds into the second half, but Seattle U came right back with baskets by Trent and D Vonne Pickett Jr. The Bulldogs tied the game on a three-pointer by Kenyon McNeail, and then took the lead on a follow-up dunk from Chris Anderson. The lead seesawed back and forth until the final six minutes, when Louisiana Tech answered a Trent jumper with a basket by Michale Kyser to go ahead, 60-59. After the Redhawks committed consecutive turnovers, the Bulldogs extended their lead with a three-pointer by Kenneth Smith and a layup from Anderson. Louisiana Tech went 5-for-6 over the next minute-and-a-half to pull ahead, 70-62, but Jarell Flora hit consecutive three-pointers to bring the Redhawks to within two with 1:21 remaining in regulation. However, three missed shots and a turnover by Seattle U, plus the Bulldogs hitting 6-of-8 attempts from the charity stripe, ended the visitors chances at a comeback. Trent finished with 19 points and six rebounds. Pickett collected 11 points, Chad Rasmussen scored nine points, and Prince Obasi added eight points, four rebounds, three steals, and 11 assists. COACH S SHOW RETURNS: The next edition of the Cameron Dollar Coach s Show presented by State Farm Insurance will be taped at Jimmy s on Broadway, located at the corner of Broadway and Madison, Monday, Feb. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. The weekly radio show, featuring Seattle University head men s basketball coach Cameron Dollar, a selected player each week, and special guests, will air on 770 KTTH The Truth from 9-10 p.m. SCOUTING UT ARLINGTON: The Mavericks enter the weekend with a 12-9 overall record, including a 7-5 record within the conference that puts the team in fifth place in the league standings. UT Arlington has won four of its last five games, including a sweep of Texas State and UTSA last weekend at home. The Mavericks are scoring 62.2 points per game and allowing 60.2 points per contest. As a team, UT Arlington is shooting 40.3 percent from the field, including 31.7 percent from behind the three-point line, and 65.6 percent from the free throw line. FIRST MEETING: Seattle University controlled the game from start to finish, holding UT Arlington to 25.8 percent shooting from the field as the Redhawks earned their first Western Athletic Conference victory of the season, defeating the Mavericks, 61-44, Jan. 17 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. Seattle U pulled out to a significant lead in the first half by holding UT Arlington without a field goal for sevenand-a-half minutes, outscoring the Mavericks 21-4 over that span of time. The Redhawks hit seven threepointers, including three from Chad Rasmussen, in the first 20 minutes against UTA. UT Arlington hit a couple of baskets early in the second half to close its deficit to 13 points, but the Redhawks responded with a 10-0 run to pull out to their largest lead at 55-31 with 5:27 remaining in regulation, holding the Mavericks without a field goal for almost nine minutes. After hitting 53.8 percent of its field goals in the first half (14-of-26), Seattle U made 61.1 percent of its second half field goal attempts (11-of-18) to earn the victory. Rasmussen led the Redhawks with 13 points, while Prince Obasi finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Jarell Flora contributed 10 points off the bench, Clarence Trent earned eight points and six rebounds, and Luiz Bidart added six points, six rebounds, and three assists to the winning effort. DOUBLE TROUBLE: Before the double-overtime thriller against New Mexico State Jan. 10 at KeyArena, the last time Seattle U needed more than one overtime to decide a game was Jan. 21, 1984, at the Connolly Center against Hawaii Hilo. It took three overtimes before Seattle U finally emerged victorious, 90-88. Seattle U Athletics Hall of Famer Ray Brooks led the team with 30 points and 12 rebounds.

head coach cameron dollar fourth season/ucla 97 Cameron Dollar is in his fourth season as head coach at Seattle University. In just a short span of time, he has shown why many college basketball writers consider him one of the rising stars in the coaching industry. Dollar took a squad of several newcomers through the 2011-12 season, competing with powerhouse programs such as Virginia and Washington. The team got rolling midway through the season, winning nine of its last 12 contests, including eight in a row at KeyArena. Thanks in part to Dollar s coaching, Aaron Broussard established himself as one of the best players in program history, finishing his career 13th on the school s alltime scoring list. Cervante Burrell improved significantly during his three seasons playing under Dollar, and Eric Wallace made an important contribution to the team s success after transferring in from DePaul for his senior season. Seattle U picked up 11 victories during the 2010-11 season, including the team s second straight victory over Oregon State and a road victory at ACC school Virginia. The Redhawks also played a tight game at Pac-10 school Stanford and put up its best performance against Washington since starting the reclassification process in front of over 11,000 fans at KeyArena. With Dollar at the helm, Seattle U was invited to participate in the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, opening the season at the University of Maryland. The Redhawks were also chosen for the ESPN BracketBuster series of games, defeating Northern Illinois on the road. Using an up-tempo style with aggressive defense, Dollar led Seattle U to a 17-14 record in 2009-10, making the Redhawks the first team to post a winning record playing a full Division I schedule in its first year as a Division I counter. The team started to gain national recognition after a 77-74 victory at Utah, and then made history later in the year with a 99-48 win at Oregon State, the worst home loss ever for the Beavers. Dollar and his squad also defended Elgin Baylor Court at KeyArena during its first year of existance, finishing with a 10-3 record at home, including exciting victories over Fresno State, Weber State, and UC Irvine. Seattle U won eight of its last nine games, posting last-second road wins at Portland State and at San Jose State in the process. He served seven years as an asssistant coach at the University of Washington before coming to Seattle U. As the top assistant for Lorenzo Romar at Washington, he helped the Huskies win their first Pac-10 outright regular season championship since 1953 in the 2008-09 season. Washington advanced to the semifinals of the Pac-10 Tournament and to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Prior to his arrival at UW, Dollar served three years as an assistant coach on Romar s Saint Louis University staff. He helped the Billikens to a three-year record of 51-44 (.537), including a 2000 Conference USA Tournament championship that secured the league s automatic NCAA berth. He became the nation s youngest head coach in 1998 when, at age 22, he took the reins of the Southern California College program in Costa Mesa, Calif. The Vanguards, who returned just six players from the previous season, posted an 11-22 record in Dollar s only season, but recorded wins over NAIA Top 25 teams Westmont and Azusa Pacific. After a three-month stay as a part-time assistant at the University of Georgia in 1999, Dollar left to join the Saint Louis coaching staff on a full-time basis. As a player, Dollar lettered four seasons at UCLA before graduating in 1997. He has chosen to remain in Seattle, the site of the Bruins 1995 NCAA Championship victory. UCLA defeated Arkansas 89-78 at the Kingdome. A four-year letterman at UCLA from 1994-97, Dollar achieved national recognition in 1995 as a pivotal player in UCLA s NCAA championship season when he took over for injured starter Tyus Edney in the title game. In Dollar s final three collegiate seasons, the Bruins won the NCAA title and reached the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Dollar averaged 5.0 points and 3.7 assists per game during his four-year career. He was recruited to UCLA by then-bruins assistant Lorenzo Romar and was reunited with his coach in 1999 when Romar added Dollar to his staff at Saint Louis University. Dollar is a native of Atlanta, where his father, Don, was the long-time coach at Clarkston High School and is now serving as one of his assistant coaches at Seattle U. Cameron and his wife, Maureen, live in Seattle. They have three children: Jalen (born April 26, 2005), Giselle (born Feb. 12, 2007), and Jason (born Dec. 23, 2008).
