RACE INSTRUCTIONS To ensure you have an enjoyable and safe morning with Run North West please take the time to read through the race instructions. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us via social media or via email at run@runnorthwest.co.uk RACE NUMBERS Race numbers are being posted out in waves for this years event. Please let us know as soon as possible if you change address following your entry. If you enter the race after the 2nd November please report to the race HQ before 9:00am on the morning of the race to pick up your race number. If for any reason your race number doesn t arrive in the post, please also report to Race HQ before 9:00am where you will be issued with a replacement number. BEFORE LEAVING HOME Please make sure you have your running number and safety pins with you prior to leaving home. We always recommend preparing your kit the day before to avoid any last minute stress. Please pin your race number to the front of your singlet or running t-shirt using the safety pins provided. Spare pins will be available at the race HQ situated in the leisure centre.. For health and safety reasons you must not use anyone else s, number nor let someone else use yours

GETTING TO THE RACE We recommend car sharing if you can, which will also aid parking congestion on the day. Directions from the North - Take the M56 from M6 or M60, then leave at junction 6 and take A538 to Wilmslow. Directions from the South - Leave the M6 at junction 17; take the A534 to Congleton and then the A34 to Wilmslow along the Alderley Edge Bypass (our July 10k route). If you re traveling into Wilmslow along the A34 from either direction we recommend parking at our additional parking facility Royal London to avoid any road closures or congestion before and after. Please arrive early to avoid any congestion. We recommend being in the start area no later than 45 minutes before the start of the race. We have lots going on inside the leisure centre so you can stay warm and relax before the event. RACE HQ AND REGISTRATION The postcode for the Wilmslow Leisure Centre is SK9 1BU. We are once again utilising the main hall of Wilmslow Leisure Centre for the race HQ. Whilst your race numbers have been posted out this year for your convenience, we will still be delighted to welcome you at our HQ pre and post race with lots going on including our pop up retail store.! We will open at 7.30am. An enquiry desk will be available for any lost numbers, transfer enquiries and last minute questions.

EVENT PARKING We wish to make every possible effort to provide easy, safe and fast parking. Car Parking is available throughout Wilmslow, with the town centre car parks (excluding Waitrose & the train station) free to runners on a Sunday. Marshals will be available on the day to assist with parking. We have adequate parking available with approximately 1200 car park spaces in Wilmslow town centre and a further 800 at Royal London. You then also have a large amount of on street parking options with single yellow line areas also being free to use on Sundays but please be considerate for our local residents. Please also note that the start area of approximately 400 metres will close for traffic at 8.30am. This is the area from the traffic lights at the Water Lane/ Alderley Road junction, to the side road at the end of Hoopers called South Road. Water Lane is not affected and you can still turn left at the Water Lane junction when approaching from the M56. Whilst this does not restrict any of our parking options, depending on your route into Wilmslow it may cause some disruption and we strongly advise as many participants as possible to be parked up by 8.30am. Clearly any event that experiences too many cars arriving at once will suffer challenges however we have many different car parks for this race which will alleviate congestion providing you do not leave your arrival until the last minute. If all the town centre car parks fill up completely then you will be guided to side roads or to Royal London. Royal London is a 10-minute walk to the race start. Some runners may prefer to park nearer to the finish area and make the 15-minute walk to the town centre start. Parking here is more limited but the local residential areas including Kings Road and Gorsey Road, which have lots of options with wide residential streets and no parking restrictions. Royal London have very kindly provided the use of their car parking facilities, for those of you that raced the Alderley Edge 10k in the summer you will be familiar with this car park. The car park is on Alderley Road Postcode: SK9 1PF, which is a 10-minute walk to the start.

CHANGING, BAGGAGE & TOILETS The Leisure centre has a good quantity of toilets however we have ordered an additional 50 portaloos as we appreciate how frustrating the toilet queue can be on race morning! The portaloos will be spread between the Leisure centre and near to the start with a few toilets also available at the finish. Refreshments can be purchased at the Leisure Centre cafe or at one of the many town centre coffee shops. Changing and shower facilities are available free of charge at the Leisure Centre. A Bag drop facility is available at the race HQ within the Leisure Centre from 8.00am with bags left at the owners risk. For your own reassurance they will be looked after by one of our event volunteers at all times. Our team will issue you with a raffle ticket number to easily identify your kit bag after the race. Please note no oversized bags as space is limited! SPORTS MASSAGE We're delighted to officially partner with Harris & Ross renowned for employing the best in diagnostics, rehabilitation and conditioning to help patients recover from injuries and work, health or lifestyle conditions. A team from Harris & Ross will be on hand for pre and post race massage. The fee is just minimum 5 donation to The Christie charity. RUNNING KIT With unpredictable weather in late November we recommend that if you are being met at the finish to ask for a spare warm top! We are providing foil blankets at the finish in case of extreme weather. You can also leave spare kit at our race HQ bag drop. Please dress appropriately for race the conditions on race day. We will stock a range of hats and gloves at our pop up retail store at our race HQ. We strongly advise against the use of personal music players or headphones during the race, which can restrict your ability to hear safety instructions from marshals or unexpected events such as a car accidentally pulling onto the course.

THE COURSE We have made some improvements to our route for 2018, offering runners the perfect mix of flat running, scenery and with it s town centre location, a fantastic atmosphere to help you enjoy your 10k experience. The new course will ensure a faster start and an improved finish before the bend on Mobberley Road - but don't worry it's still just as fast and fully closed to all traffic at all times during the event. The course starts in Wilmslow town centre outside Hoopers and Pizza Express, heading South West along Knutsford Road, passing through the leafy residential streets of Wilmslow, with a lightening quick first 5k setting you up perfectly for a personal best attempt. The rural section of the course offers excellent scenery of the Cheshire Countryside before winding its way back to the finish on Mobberley Road with just one short hill within the 8th km to test your strength. The final 1km takes in the same finishing route as the popular Wilmslow Half Marathon with 400m and 200m to go signs in place helping you time that sprint finish to perfection! DRINK STATIONS Drinks are situated just past 5k as well as at the finish line. Water will be in 330ml sports cap bottles. Please try to dispense of these into the bins provided or at the finish. We kindly request that bottles are not thrown onto the grass or bushes. Our wonderful volunteers will ensure that the course is litter free afterwards and we will also dispense of these bottles correctly for recycling purposes.

PACEMAKERS We have once again organised pacemakers for those wishing to aim for a particular time. Time boards will be positioned along the start line area to guide you into the correct starting area. Please try to be honest and realistic as if you start too far up the field then this can cause the flow of runners to slow at certain pinch points over the first few kilometres. Pacers will start the race alongside these boards and will be running 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75 minutes. Pacemakers will be clearly visible on the day for your convenience with Run North West branded t-shirts and signs displaying their appropriate pace times and pace.. Again please try to position yourself appropriate to your finish time level. The race is chip timed, so your result will display your actual time as you cross the start. RACE NUMBERS & CHIP TIMING Please attach your number to the front of your vest and please do not fold, cut, or deface it in anyway. The timing chip is attached to the back of your number and is detected when you cross the start and the finish. Please do not run around the outside of the mat area or your time will not be recorded. The tags are disposable so you do not have to return them if you do not take part. Please do not exchange your number with any other person without informing race officials before the day as this can cause problems with the results as well as serious health & safety concerns. Please also take the time to fill in your emergency contact details prior to running. Once again all runners who have provided a mobile telephone number will receive both their official race time and position from Nifty Entries our race partner, usually within minutes of finishing. Race results will also be posted as soon as the race is completed at www.niftyentries.com/results and later that day on our event website.

PHOTOGRPAHY We are pleased to welcome back Mick Hall Photos who are providing free to download race photographs from the day, so don t forget to smile! We aim to post a selection of photographs on our website and Facebook pages as soon as we have them. MEDICAL SERVICES First aid is situated at various points along the course. Should you feel unwell during the race please let your nearest marshal know so we can arrange for medics to get to you as soon as possible. If you come across anyone injured or in distress please report it to the nearest marshal who will be in contact with our event team and our first aid providers. First aid is also available at the start and finish area. Please also fill in your personal details section on the reverse of your race number. This greatly assists the medical staff, should you require first aid or medical treatment. GENERAL HEALTH & SAFETY Participant, spectator and volunteer safety is of paramount importance to us all. We kindly ask you observe traffic regulations and marshal instructions on the day of the event. When walking to and from the start and finish please keep to the pavements and crossing points whenever possible particularly if you're walking back to town after the race. You can find further details along with our FAQ section and event safety procedures online at www.runnorthwest.co.uk

FINISH We hope you will be proud of your achievements when you cross our finish line. You will be directed by marshals to collect your exclusive gym bag, which will contain your well earned finisher medal plus a high quality OTE Anytime nutrition bar along with water. Foil blankets will also be available in case of a particularly cold or wet day. Please keep moving once you have passed the finishing line to create space for runners arriving after you. If you are feeling unwell or require medical support please speak to your nearest marshal immediately who will be able to assist you further. To improve the finish at this years event, runners will be finishing slightly further up Mobberley Road to avoid the bend as per previous years. This also frees up a lot more space at the finish line. For runners and spectators looking to get one of our buses back to town they will be waiting for you close to the previous finish, which will be signposted and marshals will be on hand to direct you towards them. If you're still feeling energetic you can walk or jog down the stony lane off Mobberley Road back towards town. This change has been made to improve your race day experience and to increase the safety of our participants. The free shuttle bus will also be on hand to take runners back to Royal London as well as Wilmslow town centre and our race HQ. Please come back to the leisure centre after the race to see our prize presentation and check out our special offers in the pop up retail store. Once again we have a special bacon, sausage or turkey butty and hot drink for 5 available at the Boddington Arms for spectators and runners. PRIZES Presentation of the prizes will take place at the Race HQ inside the leisure centre as early as possible but not before 11:30am. Prizes will be awarded to the top five male and female runners and the top three wheelchair racers. We then have additional prizes in all main runner age group categories for every five years from V35 up to V80. Any vets in the first five finishers of the whole race will receive the top five race prize and then the next Vet from that category will receive the relevant vet prize. A course record bonus of 250 is available for the first male or female who comes inside of our course records. These are 29.46 male and 34.27 female and are by gun time.

RESULTS Results will be available at www.runnorthwest.co.uk and on Nifty Entries as soon as possible after the race has finished along with a selection of race photographs.
