The Lady Flames have won two straight matches, both in five sets, while Radford looks to bounce back from a 3-0 setback at High Point, Saturday. Liberty is 44-32 all-time against Radford in volleyball, although the Highlanders have won four straight in the series and seven out of the last 10 meetings. STARTING ROTATION 1. The Lady Flames rallied from a 2-1 match deficit against UNC Asheville on Saturday, winning in five sets for its second straight 3-2 win (Sept. 23 vs. PC). This is the second year in a row in which each of Liberty s first two conference wins have lasted five sets. 2. Anna Gragg, who wears No. 2, scored 19 kills against PC on Sept. 23 before recording 18 kills on Saturday against UNC Asheville. She leads the Big South with a.447 hitting percentage in conference matches. 3. Three different Lady Flames setters, senior Anna Willey, sophomore Hannah Morris and freshman Amaya Williams, have posted one or more 50-assist match during their career. 4. Junior libero Margaret Latchford collected her 1,000th career dig, Sept. 12 against VCU. She keeps climbing the ladder in program history, currently ranking 18th with 1,094 career digs. Only 16 players at Liberty have collected 1,100 or more career digs. 5. On Sept. 23 against PC, Anna Gragg (19 kills,.514), Casey Goodwin (15,.536) and Sirena Vorster (14,.542) all hit over.500, the first time in rally-scoring history (since 2001) that three Lady Flames hit.500 or better, with 12 or more kills, in the same match. 6. Shane Pinder, in his 14th season as Liberty s head coach, is the program s all-time winningest coach, at 243-187. He is ranked second all-time among all Big South volleyball coaches in both overall wins and conference victories (137). 7. The Lady Flames were predicted to finish third in the Big South Preseason Coaches Poll. She scored 19 kills on Sept. 23 against Presbyterian and followed with 18 kills on Saturday versus UNC Asheville. Saturday s match saw Gragg hit.400, while fellow middle blocker Sirena Vorster hit.615 with eight kills. Gragg is the first Liberty middle blocker since Erin McKeown in Nov. 2002 with consecutive 18+-kill matches. McKeown went for 18 or more kills in four straight matches. In each of its first two conference matches, Liberty had two middle blockers in doubledigits in kills. Kainah Williams and Gragg both went for 11 kills on Sept. 19 against High Point. Then, on Sept 23 versus PC, Gragg scored 19 kills and Vorster, 14. Milestones Reached On Saturday, Gabrielle Vess posted her second straight double-digit kills match. With her 11th and final kill of the match, she reached 600 kills for her career. Junior Margaret Latchford collected her 1,000th career dig during the first set of Liberty s match against VCU, Sept. 12. Latchford is ranked 18th in program history with 1,094 career digs. Up next on the list are Leanna Miller (1994-97; 1,097 digs) and Becky Shannon (1985-88; 1,118 digs). Efficiency on Display Liberty s offense has clicked at a season-best rate over the past two matches. On Sept. 23 against PC, the Lady Flames hit a season-high.290 with a Vines Center 25-point rally-scoring-record 73 kills. The Lady Flames then hit.218 with 65 kills on Saturday versus UNC Asheville. It is the first time this season that Liberty has hit.200 or better in backto-back matches. During that span, Sirena Vorster has hit.568 (22-1-37), while Anna Gragg checks in at.457 (37-5-70), Lydia Smith at.389 (8-1-18) and Casey Goodwin,.340 (20-4-47). Williams Named Big South Freshman of the Week Amaya Williams was named Big South Freshman of the Week on Sept. 25. She was the first Liberty setter since Jade Craycraft in 2010 to be named Big South Freshman of the Week. She totaled double-doubles in both matches, against High Point (42 assists, 13 digs) and versus PC (career-high 59 assists, 12 digs). Her 59 assists against Presbyterian were the most by a Liberty freshman setter since Courtney Boggs 64 assists at UNC Asheville, Nov. 7, 2008. Team Effort During the Sept. 23 win over PC, Anna Gragg led the way with a career-high 19 kills, while Casey Goodwin scored 15 kills, Sirena Vorster had 14 kills and Gabrielle Vess totaled 13 kills. It was the first time since Nov. 2, 2007 at PC that four Lady Flames posted 13 or more kills, as Jessica Nelson (17), Nicki Scripko (16), Karyl Bacon (15) and Chelaine McCarty (13) led the offense. Sept. 23 was the first time this season that five Lady Flames reached double-digits in digs. Margaret Latchford collected 21 digs, while Kaitlyn Young collected a career-high 17 digs, Amaya Williams registered 12 digs, Gabrielle Vess had 11 and Victoria Baptista, 10. 50+ Freshman Amaya Williams recorded a career-high 59 assists, Sept. 23 against PC. Williams is one of three current Liberty setters with at least one career 50+-assist match. Anna Willey has posted 12 career 50-assist matches, with a career high of 63 assists. Sophomore Hannah Morris has recorded one career 50-assist contest, with a career high of 51 assists. This is the first time in rally-scoring history (since 2001) that three active Liberty players have at least one career 50-assist match to their credit. Willey ranks eighth in program history with 2,469 career assists. The 1997 Lady Flames went 26-9, capturing their first Big South title and making their initial NCAA Tournament appearance. Led by first-team all-conference middle blocker Anthonia Akpama and Big South Tournament MVP Ashley Fletcher, the Lady Flames traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., on Dec. 5. Liberty s first NCAA foe was Notre Dame, who handed the Lady Flames a 3-0 setback. 10 Years Ago... In 2007, Liberty enjoyed a memorable season, snapping Winthrop s five-year stranglehold on the Big South title. Big South Tournament MVP Kallie Corbin and Big South Freshman of the Year Nicki Scripko led Shane Pinder s Lady Flames back to Durham, N.C., for the first round of the NCAA Tournament. On Nov. 30, Liberty won its first-ever set in the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship, before California wrapped up a 3-1 triumph. 5 Years Ago... In 2012, Liberty earned its conference-record seventh and most recent Big South title. The Lady Flames entered the NCAA Volleyball Championship on a 10-match winning streak before falling at No. 11 Minnesota in a match that saw the third set go to 34-32. Liberty swept the postseason major Big South awards: Player of the Year (Caroline Douglas), Freshman of the Year (Douglas), Coach of the Year (Shane Pinder), Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Becca Haraf) and Tournament MVP (Jade Craycraft).
