Swap Sheet Texas Muzzle Loading Rifle Association June 2008 Shoot Results Fall Prize Shoot 2008 Schedule President s Column I was not looking for a job when I agreed to accept the President position for the 2008-2009 year for our association, but we all need to do our part. Andy left me some tall boots to fill and all I can say is that I will give it my best and keep TMLRA s best interest at the top of my list of responsibilities. Andy is a hard worker and did a good job for us during the past three years as our President, so tell him Thank You. I can t say enough good things about Patsy Lohn who regretfully submitted her resignation as our secretary-treasurer, at the June Director s meeting. She just needs some time to recuperate and has agreed to help us with things needing attention on the local Brady scene. Patsy has always been there to take care of TMLRA business and record the minutes, pay the bills and anything else we needed in the way of our business affairs. TMLRA members, old and new, recognized that Patsy Lohn has been one of the main folks that made this outfit work for many years. Give her a big hug and Thanks when you see her at the next shoot. Suzy Larson was elected to serve as our new secretary-treasurer. The executive officers for 2008-2009 is a good slate of folks and I am confident they can keep me bailed out if I get off track. Toney Urban is the new publications editor has some good ideas regarding the Swap Sheet and a TMLRA web-site but I will let him tell you about that. TMLRA has a lot of positive things going, the main issue being a new Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Brady which will allow us to use the range for our annual scheduled events. I have asked Andy to write an article on the MOU with the City, as he was the TMLRA representative when the agreement was developed and agreed to. We may be in a better position with the MOU than what we had with the lease, from a legal liability standpoint and these days that is something we must pay attention to. The ricochets have been substantially reduced with the sand but we still hear a few one is too many so we will have to keep working on that. Several members have pointed out that targets posted down low on the target backer and not on an even plane with the barrel are causing some ricochets. We ask that the targets be posted as close to level with the gun barrel as possible. Not to keen on adding rules as we have plenty now, but we may need to consider a new one here to make every attempt to reduce ricochets just common sense folks. Another positive thing I ll mention is the number of junior shooters we now have. Most of the junior shooters participated in the TMLRA Memorial Volley on Sunday morning for our deceased members. Now that was impressive, kind of tells you something about their character and raising. Another positive thing is the new Capitol Improvement Fund established by the TMLRA Directors. The TMLRA giveaway (for a donation) of a muzzle loading shotgun and a subsequent drawing for a shooting box will be held at the October 2008 shoot. Folks, I ve seen the shot gun and it is a nice one. The tickets for this were included in the previous Swap Sheet and you can send the tickets and donations to Andy Larson, 831 Wavecrest Lane, Houston Tx 77062 or you can participate prior to the drawing at the October shoot. The requested donation is $2.00 for one or $5.00 for three. The good thing about this is that all of the proceeds will go to the new Capital Improvement Fund. Be thinking about your prizes for the October registration and the auction items for the annual auction, which results in a good prize table. It s not that far away so start recruiting a friend to bring with ya. See you in October, Fred Greenway Publication Editors Column Hello all, First, I would like to say thank you for electing me Publications Editor, I just hope I can live up to the good job that all of my predecessors have done before me. Congratulations to the newly elected Executive Committee, Board Members and thank you to all of those stepping down from their positions, thank you all for your contributions to the TMLRA. Page 1

We do have a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the TMLRA and the City of Brady, Texas that has been agreed upon. A big thank you goes to Andy and Susy Larson and to all of the others who gave their time and efforts to help make this MOU reality for the TMLRA, job well done. The ricochet problem continues to be the most important topic of concern at this time and one that we will keep striving to resolve. We have seen some real innovative ideas from folks so far. I believe we have made progress in this area I think with more ideas, we can, and finally will, overcome all of the ricochets we have at our events. The sand that the City has placed at the range has been a big help as evidenced by the greatly reduced number of ricochets heard while at the June shoot. Andy, keep working on that Bullet Trap Box!! Don t forget about the Shotgun and Shooting Box raffle! Keep buying up those tickets to make this a big success for the TMLRA. I would like to ask that current members and members who have let your membership lapse, submit their current address, contact phone number, and to provide us with your email address also. The email address is going to be important because of the new TMLRA website going on line very soon. There is a questionnaire and a stamped envelope included in the Swap Sheet for you to fill out. One way that the TMLRA will be able to save money is to limit the mailed out copies of the Swap Sheet to only those members who do not have the internet. For those that do have internet access, you will be able to simply print out the Swap Sheet on your computer from the TMLRA website thereby saving the TMLRA the huge expense of postage each quarter, so please send your emails via the questionnaire and thank you for helping. The address will be TMLRA.com. I hope everyone will contribute to the site by submitting photos, archives and stories for us to put on the site for all to enjoy. The site after all is a site about the TMLRA Members! You can email me photos or send them to me via the US Postal service. My email is on the TMLRA website in the Contact Information Section and my mailing address is Toney Urban P. O. Box 33 Freer, Texas 78357 A special anniversary issue of the original TMLRA Swap Sheet (PROGRAM) dated October 11, 12, 1947 is being sent to everyone for you to enjoy and to help the TMLRA celebrate its 60th anniversary. This Swap Sheet publication is dedicated to the memory of all of the TMLRA members who have passed on and for them having made this a truly great organization, thank you all, and happy 60th Anniversary! Toney Urban Memo of Understanding Between the TMLRA & the City of Brady, TX On June 18 the Brady City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Brady and the TMLRA that will allow the TMLRA to continue to hold our regular shoots at Brady and will also allow the TMLRA to remove most of our improvements to the range if it becomes necessary for the TMLRA to move. There was no opposition to the MOU by either the City Manager or Mayor and the City Council vote for approval was unanimous. I believe that this MOU and the work that the City has done at the gun range shows that the City wants the TMLRA to stay in Brady. The one item that will continue to be a concern is the ricochets. We must continue to look for solution to the problem. If we cannot solve this problem it makes no difference what agreement we have with the city we will not be able to continue to shoot in Brady. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks for all of your support over the past three years.
