Clinic will offer advanced training in hitting, fielding and pitching from the Force Training Staff. Attendance will be limited and focused on players currently at the 12U/13U. The clinic will be run by Force Baseball Club Training Staff and Coaches including Force Coach Dan Pellegrino (2016 12->13U Coach), Brett Tomko, Dean Weese, Dave Miller and more. Force Sports Club operates club / travel teams for basketball and baseball ranging from 3 rd grade through to 8 th grade. Program Management / Coaches / Trainers Management & Training Coordinators Todd Knapp, Paul Klepsch, Rob Nigro (Left-to-Right): The management staff provides a foundation for the program to thrive, but they also work as trainers to support the coaches/managers and the SKLZ Force Academy. They are dedicated to growing youth athletes and providing advanced training opportunities so the players are prepared for the next level (in sports and in life). Their passion for helping the kids to excel combined with their baseball background and community spirit provide an environment for athletes to flourish. In addition to the management and trainers introduced above, Force employs top-notch managers and coaching staff. The following coaches/trainers below also support our club teams as well as our SKLZ Force Academy training programs. Dan Pellegrino, 13U Manager, Force Baseball Club Dan was a catcher at Poway High School between 2004 2007 where he was a C.I.F D1 champion, a Palomar League champion, a 2-time All-CIF Selection and a 2-time All-Palomar League Selection. Dan went on to play college baseball at UC Riverside where he caught over 100 games. In 2010 he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the MLB First Player Draft. He went on to play in the Rookie League with the Baltimore Orioles in 2012 2013 and in 2013 he played in AA Spring Training with the Orioles. Dan is the Force Baseball Club 13U Manager for the 2016 Season.
Brett Tomko Brett spent 14+ years in the majors and additional time in the minor league system as a top-rated pitcher. Brett was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1995. Brett has had a dynamic career and the opportunity to play for various major league clubs including the Reds, Padres, Mariners, Cardinals, Yankees, Giants, Dodgers, A s, Rangers and Royals. Brett is an ace pitcher and instructor and supports the Force Baseball Club teams and training year round; He loves working with players of all ages and helping local youth. Dave Miller Dave has managed travel baseball and Little League teams in the Poway area for more than 10 years. He currently coaches the SKLZ-Force 11U Black team and coached his sons while they played in Poway American Little League, and his younger son through travel ball leading up to high school. His older son pitches at the University of Nevada and his younger son at Poway High School. While managing Little League at Poway American, Dave s teams won 8 regular season and post-season championships along with two City Championships. He also managed 6 All-Star teams, including the 2014 Intermediate Team, which had a 22-0 record and a District 31 Championship. Dave founded the North County Storm in August 2011 to train a talented group of 11U players. In 3 years, the Storm won 7 Tournament Championships and competed nationally at the Triple Crown World Series in Park City, UT, Las Vegas, NV and Omaha, NE. The Storm also received invitations and played in the Team USA National Championships in Peoria, AZ and finished in the top 8 in 2013 and was a #4 seed in 2014. The Storm s winning percentage over that 3-year span was.824. Dave has also been a volunteer Little League umpire since 2007 and currently resides as the Assistant Umpire in Chief for Little League District 31. His volunteer efforts sent him to umpire the Western Region Big League Baseball (17-18 year old) Tournament in Bremerton, WA in 2012 where he was awarded the Championship plate for the SoCal vs Hawaii final. Dean Weese Dean played in the St. Louis Cardinal organization as a right-handed pitcher from 1987-1991 in their minor league system (up to a AA level). Dean was the varsity pitching coach at Mt. Carmel H.S. from 1995-2002 where they won back to back CIF titles in 95' & 96'. Dean has over 10 years experience coaching both in baseball/softball youth sports. He has most recently been coaching the Poway freshmen baseball team since 2014. Dean has been married for 20 years and has been a resident of Poway since 1997. He has a son and a daughter who attend Poway High. This will be Dean s 21st year working as a special education teacher for PUSD at Abraxas High School.
Ryan Wiegand Ryan earned three varsity letters playing at University of San Diego High where he hit.454 with 10 home runs, 43 runs scored and 41 RBI during his senior season. Ryan was first-team All-State Division III, first-team All-San Diego County and first-team All-Western League as a senior. Ryan then went on to play D1 Collegiate baseball at Gonzaga University. As a junior, Ryan started all 53 games and batted clean-up where he hit.365 and led the team in hits, doubles, home runs, triples and RBIs. Ryan holds the career record for hits, doubles, and RBI at Gonzaga and he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009. Ryan has youth coaching experience in both travel ball and high school. Ryan currently is a coach at Cathedral Catholic High School and is a trainer / coach for the Force Sports Club. Tommy Simis Tommy graduated from Poway High School in 2008 and won the CIF Championship in 2006 and 2008. As a starting infielder, he lead the team his senior year in fielding percentage among starting defenders and finished with a career.355 batting avg. Simis was a three-year letter-winner in baseball for coach Bob Parry and the Titans, and was named captain all three seasons. Tommy went on to play Division 1 College Baseball in the Big West Conference at Cal State Northridge. He was a captain of the team for his final 2 years before a back injury cut his playing career short. Tommy finished with a Bachelor s degree in Urban Planning with a Minor in Communications and resides in Rancho Bernardo and has a passion for training athletes. Aaron Vermilyea Aaron Vermilyea was born in San Diego, CA and grew up in Poway. He played baseball at Poway High School and graduated in 1991. Aaron went on to play baseball at Palomar College from 1992-1993 and graduated from California State University, San Marcos. Aaron coached the North County Red Storm and the SoCal SKLZ baseball clubs for six years and taught in the Poway Unified School District for three years. In addition to coaching, he owns a home-school/tutoring business in Sabre Springs. Aaron is married to his wife, Holly, of 15 years. They have two children -- Caden, 14, and Hailey, 8. Favorite Player: Aaron's all-time favorite player is the late Tony Gwynn but his current favorite baseball player is Hunter Pence. Favorite Baseball Mantra: In a manifesto composed by the St. Louis Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny, he shared with the parents of a travel ball team that baseball takes respect, ownership and the ability to self-motivate -- all great character traits on and off the field.
Derek Hasenbeck Derek graduated from Poway High in 2011 where he started on varsity his junior and senior years. Here he was named 2009 team offensive MVP... 2010 All-Palomar League Honorable Mention... 2011 team defensive MVP... 2011 Second-Team All- Palomar League... and he helped lead his high school to the 2010 CIF Division I finals. After graduating from Poway, he continued his career at Xavier University, a D1 school in Cincinnati, Ohio. Derek was a 4-year starter at Xavier making starts at Catcher, First, Third, and DH. His first season in the Big East conference his team won the Championship and played at the Vanderbilt Regional in Nashville, Tennessee. Derek played every game between his Junior and Senior years, while holding the Captain title his Senior year, leading his team in home runs both years, as well as possessing one of the top batting averages on the team. He graduated in May of 2015 with a degree in Marketing. Patrick Upchurch Patrick Upchurch has been playing baseball since he was three. He graduated from Rancho Bernardo High School in 2011 and was a member of the 2011 CIF Championship Baseball team. He pitched at Sacramento State where he was a member of the WAC Conference Baseball team. He then transferred to American River Junior College and was named First- Team All-Conference in 2014. He pitched at ARJC for two years before transferring to San Diego State University. For the past four summers, Patrick has taken his love of pitching and coached youth baseball. He loves coaching with the SoCal SKLZ - Force Baseball organization and influencing the kids in a positive way. Youth Assistant Coaches The Force Baseball Club enhances the learning environment for the players by providing Youth Assistant Coaches to support training and the teams. These players, typically from local high school program(s), provides a mutual benefit for the high school athletes as well as the Force Baseball Club athletes.
