SPORTS & PLAY FOR YOUTH WALKING ON WATER CONTEST MRRC YMCA Walking on Water Contest is a designed competition for self-propelled buoyancy shoes. The competition involves the pilot of the buoyancy shoes crossing the length of our swimming pool in a timed race against other participants. Original and innovative designs are encouraged. As such, minor modifications of items such as boats, surfboards, body boards, etc. are not within the spirit of the competition. Please contact Brooke at bcockson@ppymca.org for more information. Kids will have an impactful week of learning, training and competition in a triathlon. The kids will complete a road safety program during the week. The kids will take home a triathlon book with a training calendar that leads up to Rocky Mountain State Games Youth Triathlon July 21, 2012 at Prospect Lake. Super Sprint (ages 8-11) SWIM=150 meters, BIKE= 3.5 miles, RUN=1.2 miles. SPORTS & PLAY RECREATION TAE KWON DO Rocky Mountain Chung Do Kwan teaches traditional, no-contact Tae Kwon Do. They are affiliated with the USA Tae Kwon Do Masters Association (USATMA). The goal of Chung Do Kwan training is the full development of an individual s potential. Concentration is in the study of blocks, kicks and punches designed to develop skill in the Korean art of self-defense. Although the unification of mind, body and spirit is central to any martial art, the emphasis of our approach is the mastery of Tae Kwon Do through vigorous physical training. FOR HEALTHY LIVING Improving the nation s health and well-being. For Health SWIM LESSONS SUMMER 2012 Parent/Child (6months-3 years) The parent/ child aquatic program promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness activities for children and their parent or other trusted adult. No previous swimming experience is necessary. Classes are held in the small pool, which has an average temperature of 88 degrees and a depth of three feet. Preschool (3-5 years) The preschool aquatic program teaches water adjustment and basic swimming skills. These classes are held without the parent and children are placed into classes based on their abilities. Pike: This class is for our beginning swimmer, who may or may not be comfortable in the water and has not had formal swim instruction. The class will focus on water adjustment, use of an instructional flotation device (such as barbell or swim belt) and water safety. Pike Plus: This class is a Pike level participant who is comfortable putting his/her face in the water. Eel: This class is for our beginner swimmer who is comfortable in the water and able to swim-paddle two feet, turn around and return to the wall without assistance. This class will focus on basic swim skills such as kicking, floating, and arm stroke, aided with and without the use of an instructional flotation device. Youth (6-12 years) The Youth Aquatic Program teaches personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, water games, sports and rescue skills. Polliwog: This class is for our beginning swimmer, who may or may not be comfortable in the water and may not have had previous swim instruction. The class will focus on basic swim skills such as kicking, floating, stroke development, and water safety, with and without the use of instructional flotation device. Guppy: This class is for our beginner swimmer who is comfortable in the water, able to swim 20 feet on their front or back without assistance, and able to jump from the side into the water. The class will focus in stroke development, and water safety, with and without the use of an instructional flotation device. Minnow: This class is for our intermediate swimmer who is able to swim 25 yards of backstroke, and able to jump into deep water. The class will focus on continued stroke development and emphasize rescue skills. The diving progression will become a focus for swimmers.

FOR HEALTHY LIVING Improving the nation s health and well-being. For Health SWIMMING LESSONS CONT. Fish: This class is for intermediate/advanced swimmers who can swim 25 yards of the front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke using proper swim technique. Participants should also know how to tread water and perform basic rescue skills. The class will focus on continued stroke development, introduction of the butterfly stroke, wet ball (basic water polo skills), and the use of rescue equipment. SWIM TEAM (8-14 YEARS AND OLDER) Do your children like to swim? Do they have a slight competitive edge? Swim Team will work on perfecting your child s strokes while they gain endurance and speed. A swim meet is held once monthly with a ribbon ceremony. Practice is held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:00pm. July 2012 Practice 7:30-8:30am 1 swim meet (3rd Saturday) Private Swim Lessons: This is a one-on-one with swimmer and instructor. Four 30-minute swim lessons will be scheduled with your private swim instructor. Semi Private Swim Lesson: This is a two-on-one with swimmers and the instructor. Have a swim lesson with a friend; the Y will not place you with another swimmer for a semi private swim lesson. Four 30 minute sessions will be scheduled with your private swim instructor. **Please call for schedules and fees or look on-line at www.ppymca.org**

The Walk on Water Contest is a competition for self propelled buoyancy shoes. Each team will create buoyancy shoes within certain specifications and then attempt to walk across the pool on them. What I need from you: Donations of any item you have laying around the house that you think could help create the buoyancy shoes (i.e. milk cartons, twine, paperclips, etc). Please bring them into MRRC and I will keep them in a safe place. Judges for the contest. The contest will be taking place on Saturday August 11 th at 6:00 pm. What are your interests? Most likely, they match a need we have in our facility! Here are the following areas we are seeking volunteers for: Coaching: We are always seeking coaches for our sporting events! Next opportunity for coaching is Outdoor Soccer and Flag Football. Tween Program: We need help for our tween nights! If you would like to come help with nerf wars, makeovers, video game nights, murder mystery nights and overnight pool parties, this is your volunteer opportunity!
