2009-10 Season utlook Anchored by an experienced sophomore class in Riley Wheeldon, Chris Biuso and Justin Dorward, the University of Louisville men with high expectations. Justin Dorward is one of the players who burst on the scene for the Cardinals as a true freshman last season. He appeared in 10 events and proved that he will be someone that Crabtree can rely on consistently. He was third on the squad in stroke average at 74.54 and had a pair of top 10 nishes, including a career-best top six placement at the Rio Pinar Invitational and a ninth-place nish at the Cardinal Intercollegiate. de nite desire to become his best, tree. tential and with continued hard work he has the talent to become an All-American. Chris Biuso is another player who saw limited action as a true freshman, and appears to be ready to take a step forward. Riley Wheeldon came to Louisville last year and continued the trend of outstanding freshmen players to compete for the Cardinals. Named the BIG EAST Newcomer of the Year, Wheeldon recorded the second-best stroke average on the squad at 72.94 and tallied two top ve nishes and three in the top 10. Wheeldon placed seventh at the BIG EAST Championships last season, which was the third-best on the squad. His best nish came at the Palisades Collegiate Classic when he placed third overall, including a secondround score of 61, which tied a school record for the lowest round. he was recognized as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, player with the ability to shoot low numbers as demonstrated by his 61 last year in Charlotte. Head Coach Mark Crabtree If a consistently high level of achievement over a long period of time is the measure of a successful program, then Louisville meet those high standards. Beginning his 11th season as the head coach of the University of Louisville men Crabtree has guided the Cardinals to two BIG EAST titles, ve regional appearances and two trips to the NCAA Championships. When University of Louisville Athletics Director Tom Jurich hired Crabtree he knew he had someone who would eventually take the Cardinals men actly what Crabtree has done. Crabtree has the Cardinals on the national scene and the Hall of Fame coach isn with what his program has accomplished to date. title last season and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the fth straight year. Crabtree has orchestrated a remarkable string of successful seasons for the Cardinals. Crabtree has guided his program to four straight regional appearances, two straight visits to the NCAA Championships and a BIG EAST title. In just over nine seasons at U of L, Crabtree Cards have posted the top ve team, top seven individual, top six career stroke averages in school history and placed numerous players in the U.S. Amateur tournament. naments, which included their BIG EAST Championship and advanced to the NCAA Championships, where they nished 27th overall in 2006-07. Hosting the BIG EAST Championship for the rst time, the Cardinals dominated play, as the Cardinals had four players nish in the top ve. In their rst season in the BIG EAST in 2005-06, the Cardinals tied for the league title, but fell in a tight playo highest nish in a league championship since taking over at the University of Louisville. Despite the loss, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight season. Louisville nished 22nd in the NCAA West Regional in Tucson, Ariz. school history, as the Cardinals won a pair of tournaments and nished in the top three in seven other tournaments. Under Crabtree Cardinals nished 15th in the NCAA Regional, just missing advancing to the NCAA Championships.
