EAST FORK TREASURE HUNTERS ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2016 ABOUT OUR CLUB: Founded in 2005, we are a family friendly, fun-seeking group of folks that enjoy the hobby of metal detecting, searching for lost coins, jewelry, or other treasures that are surely out there. We help clean up parks and responsibly recover items following our digging ethics. Typically we meet on the first Thursday of every month and our meetings are open to the public. We would love to have you as a member or would just welcome your friendly visit. Lost something and need our help finding it? Visit our website or email us at eastforktreasure@gmail.com. Our club Newsletter helps keep our members informed about the activities and adventures of our metal detecting club. We welcome your visit! Our next club meeting will be on Thursday, DECEMBER 1st at the gymnasium inside the New World United Methodist Church, 5134 Northwest Highway, Garland, TX 75043, from 7 9 pm. Look for the EFTHA sign! (The GPS coordinates are: N 32 51 20.56 W 96 38 10.05.) PRESIDENT: John W. TREASURER, Newsletter: Steve D. CLUB OFFICERS: VICE PRESIDENT: Jim M. SECRETARY: Rheia D. Appreciated volunteers! Huntmaster: Bill A. Find Of The Month: Andretta L. Refreshments: Earl H. A FEW WORDS FROM OUR CLUB PRESIDENT: Hi everyone! We certainly are enjoying the holidays! Speaking of which, our Christmas dinner/meeting will be a special, combined EFTHA/GTES event, plus we will be having a guest speaker, Rusty Curry from Garrett. I will be "passing the gavel" to Earl, our elected new President. We will also be awarding the Hunters of the year so definately will want to be there for that. Well the weather has been pretty good for metal detecting so I hope y'all have had the opportunity to hunt. If nothing else, it's always an adventure outdoors which is a good thing. Remember to invite your family and friends to our next meeting too. Finally we don't want to forget the Marine Corps "Toys For Tots". We will have a box set up for your donation. Happy Hunting! John www.eastforktreasurehunters.com eastforktreasure@gmail.com Page 1 of 5

FUN AT THE NOVEMBER FUN HUNT It was a nice morning for the November Fun Hunt at Troth Ablon Park, with no rain. I used a painted penny for the token hunt which was found by Brian Pittman and he took the cash prize. I also donated 3 silver dime and planted 3 more targets (junk items that had orange tape on them). All 3 were found by Joe. For the categories, since I didn t have the draw bucket, I just used most quarters, dimes, and pennies. The winners were: Most quarters John, Second Joe, Third Don. Most dimes John, Second Brian, Third Joe. Most pennies Curtis See ya at the next one! Acting Huntmaster, John W. REMEMBERING PAUL CREECH Sadly, our club co-founder Paul Creech passed away on the 14th of November after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Paul was 79 years young, Feb 9, 1937 to Nov 14, 2016. Paul and Andrew set up the club back in 2005. Pauls career was mostly in a police helicopter in which he had many adventures, in fact, so many that he co-authored a book about it called "Eagle With A Badge". If you would like to read about these adventures, the book is available on Amazon. Paul will certainly be missed by us and those in the metal detecting field and by his many friends and family. He gave many talks to our group on metal detecting and sure enjoyed the hobby. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Creech family and friends. www.eastforktreasurehunters.com eastforktreasure@gmail.com Page 2 of 5

NEW EFTHA OFFICERS ELECTED: At the November meeting, the club elected new officers. They are: Earl H for President, Andrew P for Vice President, Mary P for Treasurer, and Rheia D for Secretary. For the volunteered positions, Andretta L will continue on as FOM coordinator, Bill A will continue on as Huntmaster, Steve D will continue on as Newsletter writer, and John W will continue on as webmaster. We are still looking for someone to help out as Refreshment coordinator please. We'd like to thank those who stepped up for these important roles in the club. Also thanks goes out to the Nominating committee for pulling this all together. OUR DECEMBER CHRISTMAS DINNER Well this year has been pretty exciting but wow how the time flies past! The club surely is looking forward to our yearly Christmas dinner and this years is going to be even greater since we will be with our friends from Golden Triangle! Rusty Curry from Garrett will be our guest speaker. Our club will be providing a brisket with the club providing "pot luck" on the other dishes. A food sign-up list was circulated at the Novembere meeting for that. Please remember to bring your items. Like every year, we want to be thankful for all the blessing we receive each day and especially so when we are able to extend a helping hand to those kids who might not otherwise have a Christmas. Our club does this by donating to the Marine Corp sponsered "Toys for Tots". Last year our club filled a giant box full of new, unwrapped toys! Elf Rheia and I (in santa hat) delivered it to a Toys For Tots collection point with special thanks from a retired Marine General! Thanks goes out to all who donated! See you there!
