This month starts with two car shows on the same day, both of which will be club events for points. For those who would like a day trip, the Shelbyfest car show will be held on May 2nd in Jefferson City. As of press time, there was no caravan information available, so you will probably be on your own. For those wanting a little shorter trip, we will be heading to Elsberry, Missouri in Lincoln County for the Classics on Wheels car show, also held on May 2nd. For those wanting to caravan as a group, we will be meeting at the Burger King in St. Peters located at the Mid-Rivers Drive exit and the North Service Road, just north of Highway 70. We will be meeting at 7:45 am and leaving at 8 am sharp. Come early if you plan to eat breakfast there. A pancake breakfast is available at the show. Although not a club event, six of our members will represent our club at the Valley of Flowers parade held in Florissant on May 3rd. We can only have six vehicles in the parade and Dan Kelly has filled the list. If you are interested in being a backup, please contact Dan. The BackStoppers is one of our club charities. To benefit that charity, we will be attending a Rascals baseball game to be held on May 16th. Ticket cost is $10 with $2 from each sale going to our charity. We really need to get involved in this game. Other car clubs have been invited so we want to have a good showing. We hope to sell at least 200 tickets. If weather permits, we will be able to drive our cars around the field before the game. Club members who plan to drive their cars around the park with the pregame festivities should meet at the T.R. Hughes Ball Park parking lot at 5:30 pm. Otherwise, we will meet in the ballpark complex. The stadium is located at 900 T R Hughes, O Fallon, MO 63366. Game time is 7:05. For tickets, contact Dan Kelly at boardwlkr@aol.com or 314-276-2288. We will finish the month with the Salute to the Troops car show that will benefit various military charities. For show information, contact club member, Lynette Lewis at 636-795-8268. We will meet at the Burger King located at Highway 70 and Mid-Rivers Mall Drive (north side). We will meet at 8:30 am. Come a little earlier if you plan to eat breakfast at Burger King. If you prefer not to caravan, the show is held at the VFW Post 5077 located at 8500 Veterans Memorial Parkway in O Fallon, Missouri. Space is limited at this show so come early. Except for the Valley of Flowers parade, all of these events are club events for points. Looking down the road a little, Jim Biermann is working on an overnighter with a trip to Jeff City to tour the old state penitentiary. The dates are August 22nd and 23rd. Current information is available on page 6 of this newsletter. We are looking to do something a little different for our Fall color tour that is tentatively scheduled for October 18th. Syl Biermann is in the process of setting up a winery tour with dinner at that location. We will post more information on these two events as it comes available.

May 2015 Page 2 A fter a week of rain and storms, our trip to the Mustang Roundup sponsored by the Mustang Club of St. Louis was a welcome relief. The event was held at the Museum of Transportation and was opened up to all of our club s cars and trucks. We showed up in force with 29 of our member vehicles in attendance. The highlight for our club was that we added two new members to our group. Thanks to all who were able to represent our club on that warm Spring day. May 2015 Page 4 W OW! They call it the Fabulous Fox for a reason. On April 11th, our club was able to tour the Fox Theater on Grand Avenue. This classic showplace was reopened in 1982 and the owners have done a wonderful job of renewing it to its past glory. The building cost up to 6 million in 1929 and probably couldn t be built to this quality in the current age. Our large group was split in to two tour groups and learned about much of its history. Some of our group have not been there since their childhood. Your editor last went to the Fox on a street car. (How s that for showing your age?). Being a nice day, we then headed to the Triumph Grill for a great lunch. The grill is more than a restaurant, as it features motorcycles from classic to new. Special thanks go out to Sandy Carey for all of her work on this very successful club outing. (continued on the next page)

May 2015 Page 5 Our monthly membership meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month except January at Sports Cafe, 3579 Pennridge Drive, Bridgeton, MO 63044. Their phone numbers is (314) 298-1631. Please call Sports Cafe to check on weather related meeting cancellations. Our board of directors meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at Sybergs which is located at the NE corner of Highway 270 and Dorsett Road. Check with any board member on weather related cancellations. All meetings start at 7 pm. Fords Unlimited Car Show Sponsor

May 2015 Page 6. Jim Biermann has been working on a tour of the old prison in Jefferson City. His information is listed below. We will have more updates soon. On Saturday, Aug. 22 nd and Aug. 23 rd, the club will be making an overnight trip to Jefferson City. We will leave at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22 nd, but a meeting place has yet to be finalized. The club has a special hotel rate set up at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. It is $74.00 per suite per night. The suite includes a king size bed and pull out couch. They will also honor this rate if you want a room with two double beds and/or if someone wants come down early on Friday night or stay thru Sunday night. The price also includes complimentary breakfast for 2 on Sunday. The hotel offers an indoor pool and fitness center, and covered parking in a 4 level garage. Once we get an estimated number of cars, they will block off parking for us in the garage. To make reservations call 800-338-8088 and tell them your with Fords Unlimited to get the special rate. Right now we have 20 rooms blocked for us. They are asking that we try to book before July 23, when it gets closer to that time, we will adjust the number of rooms that they are holding for us. Right now we have walking tour scheduled for the Missouri State Capitol Building at 2:00 on Saturday, Aug. 22 nd, in the afternoon. The tour of the Capitol is free. We will need to arrive about 1:45. This is a walking tour and will include stairs, however there is an elevator available. After the tour there is an on-site Missouri History Museum that will walk thru. We will go to dinner as a Photo by Jim Biermann A t our April membership meeting, our special guest was Ed Biermann of the Marine Corps League to present a plaque to our club for our work with the Marine s Toys for Tots campaign. Also presented was a plaque for Sinclair Ford for all of group, however those details have not been worked out. On Sunday morning, we have a 10:00 a.m. tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary, also known as A l c a t r a z o f t h e M i d w e s t, booked. There is a $13 charge and a waiver that must be signed for the tour. We will need arrive about 10 minutes early. Parking is on the Street, but it should not be a problem, as we are the first tour of the day. The tour would enter the upper yard through the front entrance. The steel gate will clank behind us just like we were inmates entering the prison. We will tour the upper yard, then take a seat in the oldest housing unit from 1868. We will hear history and interesting stories of the inmates, tour the underground dungeon cells (optional of course), tour the cells and then walk back to our vehicles. Then drive around the block to the lower yard to the back of the property to tour the gas chamber and hear more history. Since the property was built in 1836, this tour is not suitable for wheelchairs, crutches or walkers. Many people have gone on the tour with canes without a problem. Cameras are welcome, wear comfortable shoes (no sandals, please). If it is raining, bring umbrellas. If paying by check make it payable to: Jeff City CVB or have correct change cash. Please note: they do NOT bring a bag of money to make change. Stay tuned for further details. We will be adding something for Saturday morning, lunch Saturday and possibly lunch on Sunday. We will have those details as they become available. Hope everyone can join us, as this should be a fun time. their help that was accepted by Ron Schodroski. Just a clarification on club events. Sometimes at our membership meetings, a list of current car shows is presented. Not all of these are club events. The club events are listed each month in our newsletter. In the Area Events section, many shows are listed but the club events for points are listed as such. We are in a era that from late April till October, there are shows available every weekend. We have 3 new members this month. Joe Robinson has joined. Joe and spouse, Jeanie live in St. Louis and drive a 2010 Mustang. Joe was sponsored by Dan Kelly. Next to join is Tia O Bryan, daughter of club member, Rodney O Bryan. She drives a 2005 Mustang GT Tribute and was sponsored by her dad. Last but not least, Mark Bay has also joined. Mark lives in Black Jack and owns a 2007 Shelby GT Super Snake. Mark was sponsored by John Bonness. Welcome to all of our new members. Our 50-50 winner at our April meeting was John Luzak. John took home an additional $46. JIM

May 2015 Page 7 A t our membership meetings, we pass out sign up sheets for our club events. This is done so we do not leave anyone out when we caravan to events. Since we are doing lunch after many of our non car show events, we are adding a column to the sign up sheet for dinner reservations. As we have been going into restaurants with 30 to 50 people, we really need to let the restaurant know that we are coming so they can prepare for a large group. Since some of our members cannot attend our membership meetings, it is important that if you plan to do lunch with us, you should contact a board member to let them know that you are coming. This should make things go easier. W e hold our main car show flyers for printing until our show classes are sold out. We do this as we print our sponsors on the flyer. We do print some mini-flyers to tide us over until then. This year, club member Ron Sutton stepped up and had those flyers printed at no cost to us. Thanks Ron.
