4-H Spotlight May 2012 ALPA and Council Officer Elections Monday, May 7, 2012 Courthouse, 3rd floor 100 E. Tyler St. Athens, TX 75751 Phone: 903-675-6130 Fax: 903-677-7222 http://henderson-co.tamu.edu ALPA and Council officer elections will be held on Monday, May 7th at 7 p.m. Below is the criteria for running for an office. ALPA : Adult Leaders must have attended at least 3 ALPA meetings during the 2011-2012 4-H year. Offices available to run for: President, Vice President, Secretary, Reporter, and Treasurer. Council: In order to be elected to an office on the Council, a 4-H member must have served as a Council representative (Council officer or delegate) for one year prior to election or have been a present non-delegate member for at least 50 percent of Council meetings (four meetings). If a club s representative misses three meetings in a row, they are not eligible to run for office. To be eligible to run for Chairman or Vice Chairman, the 4-H member must be at least 15 years old at the time of the election. The 4-H member must have completed a project the previous year. Offices available to run for are Chairman, Vice Chairman, 2nd Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, Historian, and Parliamentarian. The offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are only open to delegates or council officers of present year. The offices of 2 nd Vice President, Reporter, Historian, and Parliamentarian are open to all representatives, including non-delegate members, who have made 50 percent of the meetings. Delegates, club representatives, and club managers/leaders: Be sure to come Monday night to vote for next year s officers. We will also be discussing important issues that will affect us next year.

Please drop them off to the Extension office by Friday, May 18th or let us know you are bringing them to the fundraiser. We will be selling BBQ plates for $5 each. Encourage everyone you know to come out and support our state bound 4-Hers.
Page 3 District 5 Horse Show Deadlines The District 5 Horse Show minor releases and a copy of coggins papers are due to the Extension office by Friday, May 18th. The forms and the State 4-H Rulebook can be found at http://d54-h.tamu.edu or picked up from the Extension office. The District 5 Horse Show will be held on Tuesday, June 26 here in Athens. Online entries for this show are due Monday, May 27th. 2012 4-H Volunteer Conference The second annual 4-H Volunteer Conference is set for July 27-29, 2012 in San Antonio. Whether you have been a volunteer for one, 12 or 20 years, the conference offers something for everyone! Registration opens April 1st on 4-H CONNECT. Bradi Cade, Chad Tindel, Hayley Jackson, & Taylor Davis are State Roundup Bound! Chad received 2nd high point Individual & Taylor received 4th high point individual. District Rifle Contest- Junior Rifle Team (Brendan West, Peter Cole, & Jacob Cole) placed 5th and Nathan Johnson placed 4th as an Individual! From what I hear they have come pretty far this year! Haley Calhoun, a member of Chandler 4-H, was recently featured in the current issue of the Texas Longhorn Trails. She, along with club manager Dr. Roddam, were busy promoting the longhorn association and breed at the Cow-Calf Clinic in Athens held on March 29th. Haley currently serves as the Vice President of the Youth Division of the East Texas Longhorn Association. She also serves as Secretary of the Chandler 4-H club.

Camp June 27-29 Texas A&M College Station, TX Cost: $250 (includes meals, lodging, and camp materials) Ages: youth 7th to 11th grade Deadline: May 18th This camp offers youth a hands-on learning experience that allows them to learn about the medical, safety and health fields. You do not have to be a member of 4-H to attend. Registration is limited, so hurry to reserve your spot! During the three-day, two-night camp, youth will participate in activities with the Texas A&M Athletic Department, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Medicine and Health Science Center to explore and discover career opportunities. Membership in the 4-H Program is not a requirement to participate in the camp. For more information visit erath.agrilife.org or call 254-965-1460. 2012 Texas 4-H Calf Roping and Break-A-Way School When: June 15-19 Where: Stephenville, TX Cost: $380 for participant $175 for adult chaperon Registration Deadline: May 16, 2008 The cost will include group insurance, meals, lodging, stall rent for one horse and will cover the cost of practice calves used in the teaching process. An extra stall fee of $25 for one additional horse. Participation is open to all districts of the state, with applications being accepted on a first come, first serve basis with first priority to those boys and girls who are 12 years of age and older.
