Despite a weather delay, the Dawgs were able to put together a demolition of Wabaunsee last week to improve to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play. The Red and Black now hits the road for a pair of games outside of the Mid-East League, starting with Osage City. The defending Flint Hills League Champion is off to a 1-1 start after dropping a 30-3 decision to Mission Valley last week. Offense has been the Dawgs best friend, averaging more than 384 yards of total offense. This is the 32nd time the Indians and Bulldawgs have squared off since 1970 and the first meeting since district play in 2007. Rossville owns a 22-9 advantage in the series and has won 13 straight over Osage City. Behind an outstanding performance from senior QB Mitch Buhler, the Dawgs turned two drives into scores including Buhler s 53-yard bomb to junior WR Matt Taylor to put Rossville up 27-14 midway through the third. St. Marys fought back with score from the hands of Mitch Baumchen who took part in all three Bear touchdown plays. It would be the last time St. Marys found the endzone as the Dawg defense held serve long enough to secure the season-opening victory. Buhler finished with 295 yards on 19-of-29 passing. He threw for two TDs and ran for another while throwing one pick. Rossville found themselves in an early deficit after Baumchen broke a long run and tossed a long pass to lead 14-7 after the first. The Dawgs slowly seized control with Taylor, who hauled in four catches for 78 yards plus the score, and two key touchdowns from Sam Ressor (catch) and Nick Satterwhite (rush). Rossville defeated the Bears for the first time since 2003 and first in St. Marys since the 2002 playoffs.
