EBSF 2018 NBYA Junior Race Week BYC and East Bay Sailing Foundation were pleased to host this year s Narragansett Bay Yachting Association (NBYA) Junior Race Week/ USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festival. Nearly 200 Narragansett Bay junior sailors ranging in ages from about 7 to 17 joined us at the Bristol Town Beach for 3 days of fun racing. Mother Nature served up all conditions for the 420 s, Optimists and Lasers. EBSF sailors sailed very well in all fleets, with Otto Kallfelz bringing home a Bronze Medal in the Opti Red fleet and Ben Browne bringing home Bronze in the Opti White fleet. We were super proud of all of our sailors who demonstrated excellent sportsmanship as hosts, sailed hard and helped out for 3 crazy days. EBSF would like to thank NBYA for running a great regatta, Chris and the BYC for their massive back end support, the tireless BYC and EBSF volunteers who put in long days on the water setting and moving marks and changing flags, as well as the army ashore who helped with signs and parking and launching and dollies and scooping and so much more. It really brought out the very best in EBSF and BYC and we were able to show our fellow Bay sailors that our club is a force to be reckoned with on the water! Way to go and big thanks to all who lent a hand.

Sailing Sessions Come to a Close EBSF Our summer Junior Sailing Sessions ended days after Race Week. We had 4 great sessions with sailors finding us from all over the state and beyond! We saw lots of wind this summer, which means we built some heavy weather sailors this summer. We also saw lots of smiles and lots of familiar faces coming back for more fun after last year or even after a session this summer. We re always looking for ways to improve our summer sailing, reach out if you have some constructive comments for us! Big thanks to our amazing corps of Head Instructors and Sailing Assistants who make learning to sail and becoming a better racer a lot of fun for all the kids, from Novice to the EBSF Race Team. We thank them all for a great summer and know that they made some lasting memories for hundreds of kids! Our Adult Sailing classes and J/22 one design and team racing has wrapped up and made some big strides this year on both fronts. Our adult classes were packed with eager students many new and certainly many returning, as well. Thanks to Peter Maloney and his A+ team of BYC member volunteer instructors. It s really exciting to share our sailing passion with others who are eager to embrace the sport. We really couldn t do it without Peter Maloney and his team. Thanks to you all! Nick Cromwell is to thank for putting Bristol squarely in the center of area Team Racing. NYYC does a great job, but there was no upper Bay program. Nick gathered a crowd of top sailors to come Team Race on Monday nights on our J/22s and it was a blast for all involved. We have TONS of awesome sailing and racing going on off our docks every weeknight and it s so great to see how easy it is for others to fall in love with sailing in our awesome harbor and at our great club! Thanks to all for a super season for EBSF. Look for some shoulder season sailing opportunities and more US Powerboating Classes to be offered in these fall months. Kristin Browne EBSF commodore s QuARTERS What a season this has been! The Clubhouse and Grounds have never looked better and the level of activity this summer has been through the roof. The cruises were fabulous (even when it rained), the racing has been challenging with a good breeze most of the summer, and the parties have been just plain fun. There are still some great days to be out on the water in September, a couple of Friday Night dinners, and of course we have the Harvest Ball coming up in October. There is still lots to do before we put our toys away for the winter. Many thanks to Chris Healey and his excellent crew, and many thanks to the members for making this a most enjoyable season! social BYC Burgers & Blues A Sold-Out Event! BYC hosted The Next Stop Band for our Burgers and Blues Event. The band played a wide array of music and most of us had more than a song or two that got us up dancing. Paul Sanroma assisted on his bongo drum which added to the great sound for the evening. We also enjoyed deluxe burgers cooked by our amazing grilling team. This event was sold out and a great time was had by all! I d like to thank everyone that helped make this event the success that it was. We appreciate everyone s hard work and dedication throughout the year in always pitching in to help with all the layers to every event. Cheers! Kathy Rotsky Social Chair

SAVE THE DATE BYC 2018 Harvest Ball October 20th 6 to10 pm Join us for Cocktails, Formal Dinner & Dancing with a Live Band! Details COMING SOON!

Fleet Battleship Cove Pocket Cruise 2018 BYC s 2018 Pocket Cruise headed to Battleship Cove in Fall River, August 11-12. While the weather certainly did not cooperate and ultimately only 3 boats made the trip (Props to Mind Eraser, Skipper s Gift and Tom Foolery for braving the elements!), 25+ club members showed up at Battleship Cove to take in the sights and the history and enjoy fellow Club members company. Attendees were treated to a fantastic private tour led by Barry Schrutt who served on the destroyer, USS Joseph Kennedy Jr., one of the ships at Battleship Cove, and Harold Knight, who served as a submariner in the Navy. Both provided fascinating insights into life in the Navy, on a destroyer, on a submarine and at sea. membership New Member Wait List Last updated August 20, 2018 1.
