January Volume 159 January 2017 Hello fellow club members: WWW.MODESTOSKICLUB.COM HAPPY NEW YEAR! Fellow club members: Winter Snows are here and Linda & I are getting ready to ski. First I have to address our great MSC Christmas party at the SOS Club! We gathered for cocktails to Sue Lukitos guitar and songs. Then following a great dinner, our own Jim Sylvia & Cheryl Kelly prepared and presented a great game of Jeopardy based on our club and local ski resorts. Bottles of wine were rewarded to the Game Champions table for their excellent memory of club and skiing trivia. In addition, our own member Clarence Teem provided great dancing music for all to dance to under an ever changing light show. This winter s club meetings, beginning the second Tuesday in Jan, will again be at Fuzio s in Downtown Modesto. Come on down early and socialize before dinner and the meeting. MSC is an active social club and we have activities (active activities) for all members scheduled year round. We also participate in the FWSA Ski Racing Program via the BAC Open League racing program. This is a great skiing program for skiers of all skill levels to meet fellow skiers of similar abilities from other bay area, and Northern California clubs. I have also found the race schedule induces me to plan more ski trips and do more skiing at a reasonable cost. Talk to Maarten Vandermeer 209-482-2056 our club Race Director for more info. You do need to plan the coming years ski trips: FWSA Ski Week at Breckenridge, (15 Club members are signed up already, do not be left out), BAC Park City UT Ski Trip (Linda and I are on this trip), Sun Peaks in Canada, and International Ski trips by FWSA (available on the www.fwsa.org web site). Check out this newsletter for all the details of meetings, activities, trips, and other coming attractions. (They can change occasionally). Next meeting is Jan 10, Tuesday evening at Fuzio s. FEBUARY 14 IS VALENTINES DAY! No MSC meeting on that day! FEBUARY 21! We will meet again at Fuzio s, same time and same place, new date, one time only. Chuck Hennings President

MODESTO SKI CLUB LODGE NEWS We have SNOW!!! YAY!!! Hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving Holiday and Turkey, I sure did. The Lodge was blessed with members and guests on the Thanksgiving Weekend. Glad we are off to a good start. Race Team Members, please let me know what your plans are for the Open League Race Weekends. Once you have made your reservations for the Race Weekends, be sure to confirm your stay 48 hours before your arrival. Be sure to check with Maarten Vandermeer if any questions. You can also see the schedule at the Open League Website www.olrc.org. Housekeeping info: Be sure to clean the Lodge as if you are going to be the next guest when you leave for home. The kitchen floor looks great! Thanks Len Synkowicz. Please be sure to only use warm water and very light amount of cleaner in the water as this will help pull the dirt from the pattern of the linoleum. Keep in mind we are charged for how many trash cans that are dumped by the Garbage Department. Please compact all the trash!! Use one Trash container in the Bear Proof Box before using the 2 nd or 3 rd container. Please put BLUE RECYCLE Bags in the Bear Proof Box. They can go in next to the TRASH CANS. Don t put Blue Trash Bags in the Trash cans please. Be sure to turn all lights off and put the heater down to 50 when leaving for home. Making reservations: Please email me your reservation request to mnighte@aol.com. Remember, when you are making reservations, you are booking a BED, NOT A ROOM. Couples reservations will be booked on the Queen Beds first. Single reservations will be booked on single beds and doubles if available. You are never guaranteed a room to yourself especially during the winter season. Please be sure to let me know if the Lodge is in need of repair or has an issue. Phone 209-571-1825 Email: mnighte@aol.com Thanks! Michelle Nightengale, Lodge Chairperson

The BAC MOY/WOY selection process is typically held in February over dinner. Those representing the BAC at the Convention are typically reimbursed for Convention registration and one night s lodging. In the spirit of camaraderie, friendly competition and encouragement I hope to hear from a number of clubs regarding club MOY/WOY honorees and their interest in running for the BAC MOY/WOY. The winner of the FWSA MOY/WOY awards are typically treat- ed to 4 or 5 days of skiing at a top rated ski area.
