Rhine 1. stage: Alpine Rhine, Chur Constance TOUR DESCRIPTION Chocolate, Rhine and wine Discover the three Alpine countries of Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria on this easy tour through the mountains. Cycle through the wine villages nestled in the beautiful Bündner Herrschaft countryside, famous for their excellent red wines and because of the Heidi books. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere here, where the Rhine River is on holiday. Mostly dedicated cycle paths and quiet side roads, sometimes hilly, sometimes level ground. Especially on the first section often unpaved. A basic level of fitness is recommended.
1. day Arrival in Chur Chur is the oldest city in Switzerland. Its history can be tracked back over 11000 years. Stroll through the small alleys in the old town. 2. day Day trip to Disentis 65 km + train ride The train takes you to Disentis from where you cycle along the Anterior Rhine through the Rhaeto-Romanic Rhine valley. You will catch an impressive view of the Ruinaulta from above before you get back to Chur.
3. day Chur - Feldkirch 65 km You will soon cross the Principality of Liechtenstein and get to the Austrian medieval town of Feldkirch. 4. day Feldkirch - St. Gallen 45 km + train ride Along the Rhine to Altstätten and from there by rack railway to Gais in the Appenzell region. You cycle along picture-book mountain pastures with happy cows to St. Gallen. 5. day St. Gallen - Constance 45 km Downhill to Arbon where you reach Lake Constance. You cycle through the Canton of Thurgau with its huge apple orchards. The route takes you through small villages back to Constance. 6. day Constance departure If you wish, it is possible to extend your bike trip along the rhine.
