ARKANSAS STATE/NORTH TEXAS HISTORY This will be the 30th meeting all-time between the Red Wolves and the Mean Green with ASU holding a 20-9 all-time series lead. ASU has won five out of the last six matchups with North Texas. The Red Wolves have a 12-3 advtange over the Mean Green in games played in Jonesboro. The teams split a pair of games last season, with each winning a game on their home court. North Texas defeated ASU 68-54 in the last meeting on Jan. 28 last season. Brian Boyer has a 15-5 record all-time against North Texas. SCOUTING THE MEAN GREEN North Texas enters the game with 8-13 record an a 7-5 record in the Sun Belt Conference. The Mean Green have lost three out of their last four games entering Sunday s matchup, but did post a win over 64-46 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday. Alexis Hyder leads the team with a 13.0 points per game average. Hyder is also the team s leading rebounds with 8.0 boards per night. North Texas enters the game with an RPI of 199 and has the nation s 110th most difficult schedule. MAKE IT SEVEN ASU has won seven straight games and 10 out of its last 12 games. ASU has won at least seven straight games for the eighth time in the program s history. A-State last won seven straight games during the 2006-07 season when it won seven straight games. Hanna Qedan has been ASU s leading scorer during the run, averaging 13.9 points per contest. In fact, four A-State players have averaged in double-figures during the winning streak. Jane Morrill is averaging 12.3 points per night, while Ashley Olvera has poured 12.0 points. Freshman Jalen O Bannon is averaging 11.9 points per outing. The Red Wolves have won by an average of 10.7 points per game during the streak. QEDAN S EMERGING PRESENCE Hanna Qedan has averaged 11.2 points per game in ASU s wins this season, but has been held to just 5.4 points per game in ASU s losses. She has scored in double-figures in five straight games. Qedan leads the conference in free throw precentage, knocking down 85.7 percent of free throws on the year. CLOSING OUT JANUARY A-State finished the month of January with a 7-1 record. The Red Wolves shot 45.9 percent from the field during the month and defeated its opponents by an average of 9.1 points per game.

(1/30/13) The Arkansas State women s basketball team won its seventh consecutive game with a 72-61 Sun Belt Conference victory over South Alabama Wednesday night at the Convocation Center. Four A-State players scored in double-figures, led by sophomore Hanna Qedan with 16 points. Senior Quinishia McDowell added 14 points, while senior Ashley Olvera and freshman Jalen O Bannon finished the night with 11 points each. ASU improved to 12-9 overall and 9-3 in Sun Belt Conference play and maintained its two game lead over North Texas in the SBC West Division. South Alabama fell to 12-8 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Red Wolves started the game on a 21-5 run, going 8-for-10 from the field over the game s first seven minutes. A-State s quick start was aided by a pair of 3-pointers from Jane Morrill and Olvera, while Qedan helped ASU maintain a double-digit advantage for much of the period by scoring 11 first half points. The Jaguars pulled within 41-35 to start the second half, but Olvera pushed the lead back to 11 with a 3-pointer with 11:53 to go in the game. From there, ASU continued to grow the lead and held its largest advantage at 68-49 with 4:44 to go. ASU never trailed in the game and scored the most points of any team against the Jaguars this season. The Red Wolves shot over 50 percent from the field for the fifth time this season, finishing 26-of-47 (55.3) and also knocked down a season high eight 3-pointers. NUMBERS NEVER LIE ASU ranks at or near the top in six statistical categories in the Sun Belt Conference in league games. A-State leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage defense, holding teams to just 22.8 percent from beyond the arc on the year. The team also leads the league in field goal percentage, knocking 46.6 percent of its shots in conference games. ASU ranks first in 3-point field percentage (36.2) second in scoring margin (+7.2), third in free throw percentage (73.3 and fourth in field goal percentage defense (38.0) and rebounding defense (36.0). QEDAN S QUEST Sophomore Hanna Qedan continued her stellar play this season by posting her first career double-double on Jan. 24 at Troy. She scored 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to help lead A-State to victory. Her 14 rebounds were a career high. She has also knocked down three, 3-pointers in a game five times the is season. Against Middle Tennessee she set a new career mark with 22 points, shattering her previous career high of 12 earlier this season against Austin Peay. She also set a career high with nine made free throws against the Blue Raiders on 10 attempts. She has made three, 3-pointers three in her career. The first time came against Austin Peay and the second time came against Middle Tennessee and the third against Western Kentucky. Earlier this season against Austin Peay Qedan also set career highs in blocks (3) and steals (3). DEFENDING THE 3 ASU has been superb at defending the 3-point shot this season. A-State owns the nation s second best 3-point defensive percentage at 23.88 percent. ASU has not allowed an opponent to make a 3 in three games this year. ASU held FIU to an 0-21 mark from beyond the arc in both matchups this season. The Red Wolves also did not allow Wichita State to make a 3-pointer on Nov. 29. Wichita State went 0-7 from 3-point land in its game on Nov. 29. In all games, ASU has allowed opponents to make just 75 3s on the year. O BANNON SHINES Freshman Jalen O Bannon enjoyed one of the best games of her young career on Jan. 24. She scored a career high 23 points and a career high nine rebounds to just barely miss recording her first career double-double. Her previous career high in points was 13, which she had scored in two previous games this season. On Dec. 22 she went 6-for-6 from the field against Louisiana-Lafayette which is tied for the highest field goal percentage by an ASU player in the Convocation Center in school history. CLOSING IN ON 1,000 Junior forward Jane Morrill is closing in on 1,000 points for her career. The Scott City, Mo., native has 988 points and ranks 23rd on ASU s all-time scoring list. TOUGH SCHEDULE ASU has the 88th toughest schedule in the nation, and the toughest of any team in the Sun Belt Conference according to the latest RPI report from the NCAA. ASU owns an RPI of 139 according to the NCAA, the fourth highest in the Sun Belt. LEADER OF THE PACK Junior Jane Morrill has lead ASU in scoring 11 times this season. She has been the leading scorer in five of A-State s 10 wins and has scored in double-digits in all but one game this year. She has also been the team s leading rebounder 10 times this season. Against Austin Peay, Morrill set a career high with 11 free throws made. She also sent a career high with 15 free throw attempts. Morrill has posted back-to-back 20 point games. She scored 21 points against Nicholls State and then added 22 against Louisiana-Lafayette. She has crossed the 20-point mark three times this season. WINNING AND WINNING BIG ASU s 31-point victory over Austin Peay was its largest margin of victory over an opponent since the 2008-09 season when it defeated Northern Arizona 71-40. She is averaging just 3.3 minutes in for games this season, but has drained four 3-pointers on the year. She drained three, 3-pointers against Austin Peay on 3-of-4 shooting for a career-high 9 points. A STATISTICAL NIGHT TO REMEMBER A-State set several season highs against Austin Peay. The Red Wolves set season highs in points (75), field goals made (29), 3-pointers made (5), 3-point field goal percentage (.417) and tied season highs in steals (11) and blocked shots (4). The ASU defense held Austin Peay to an opponent season low 44 points and also held the Lady Governors to just 17 made field goals, also an opponent season low for A-State. MCDOWELL MOVING UP ALL-TIME STEALS LIST Senior Q McDowell has collected 163 steals in her career, the 12th most in school history. Keeshia Evans and Casie Lowman are 10th on the list with 168 each. Current A-State assistant coach Sonja State (1990-93) holds the career record for steals with 402. FREQUENT FLYER MILES The Red Wolves have made frequent visits to the airport this season, having flown over 5,000- miles already. ASU began the year by flying from Memphis to Detroit and then bussing to Toledo to take on the Rockets. The Red Wolves then flew from Little Rock to Los Angeles to take on USC in a non-conference game on the day before Thanksgiving which was a 2,980 mile round trip via the air. ASU departed Memphis International Airport on Nov. 28 for Ft. Lauderdale International Airport in a flight that was just over 850 miles. In all, the Red Wolves traveled over 5,700 miles including flying miles and bus trips in its first four road games this season. BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE Junior Carlisha Wyatt had a breakout performance against UT-Martin on Nov. 12. The junior college transfer from Angelina Community College scored 19 points and went 9-of-11 from the field against the Skyhawks. She hit her first nine shots and had 10 points at halftime. STREAKING BEYOND THE ARC ASU has knocked down a 3-pointer in 110 straight games. The streak has came to close to ending in ASU s first two regular season games. Jessica Flanery kept the streak alive with a 3 against Toledo with just six seconds left in the game and Jane Morrill knocked down ASU s first 3 of the game against UT-Martin with just 28 seconds left in the game. Flanery s 3 against Toledo was the first field goal of her career. When Boyer led the Red Wolves to a 54-51 victory over UALR in the 2010-11 regular season finale, he passed former women s head coach Jerry Ann Winters with 197 victories, moving to the top of the list of all coaches in the history of ASU men s or women s basketball. Since then, Boyer s career victory total has risen to 211, including 111 Sun Belt Conference victories. His SBC win total ranks fourth all-time, a ranking that includes all women s and men s head coaches, and ranks second among active coaches. During the 2011-12 season, he became the only ASU basketball coach to ever reach the 200-victory mark, and produced another All-SBC player in sophomore Jane Morrill, the 21st player to earn the honor under Boyer. During the season, Arkansas State picked up notable victories over Southern Cal, WNIT participant Toledo and NCAA Tournament participant UT-Martin. The Red Wolves finished the 2010-11 season strong, winning seven of their last nine games to advance to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and close out the year at 18-14, with a 9-7 slate in league play. The Red Wolves also saw two players earn post-season accolades, with senior Shay Scott earning third-team All-SBC honors and junior guard NeNe Hurst landing a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference Tournament team. Throughout the season, the Red Wolves relied on defense on way to their 18 victories. Arkansas State finished the season at No. 4 in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just 26 percent shooting from outside the arc. The Red Wolves were also 28th nationally with a plus-3.94 turnover margin and their 10.3 steals per game ranked 46th in the nation. Arkansas State held its opponents to just 57.4 points-per-game on the season to finish 54th nationally in total defense. Under Boyer's guidance, Arkansas State has reached the Women's National Invitation Tournament four times. He led the Red Wolves to the 2003-04 Sun Belt East Division Championship, the program has produced 21 All-Sun Belt Conference players with Boyer at the helm, and Boyer was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year following the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. John Rauth (men s - 191) 1995 spending four seasons as an assistant for former head coach Jeff Mittie, who is now the head coach at TCU. As an assistant to the men's team, Missouri Western was a NCAA Division II Tournament participant five years (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995) and won two conference championships. The team made the Sweet 16 in 1990. As a women's assistant, Boyer and Missouri Western made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1995 and the Elite Eight the previous season. The team went 31-3 in 1995 and made it to the Final Eight of the national tournament. It also went undefeated through its MIAA schedule at 16-0. In 1994, the team finished third in the nation, losing in a national semifinal contest and finishing with a 29-3 overall mark. In his four seasons at Arkansas State as an assistant coach, Boyer and the Red Wolves earned a 75-42 mark. The 1998-99 team went 18-14 with a trip to the Women's NIT.

Set a new career high with 22 points against Middle Tennessee on Jan. 2. She also hit a career best nine free throws and tied a career hit with three, 3-pointers.
