We hope that the tryout process is fun and challenging, and we encourage you to read all of the information contained in this packet. Please note all of the dates, deadlines, times, and locations. There will be a $30.00 nonrefundable application fee due at the tryout clinic on August 24, 2013. The application fee payments will be received in CASH payments ONLY. RELEASE FOR PARTICIPATION IN TOUGALOO COMPETITION CHEER SQUAD TRY-OUTS and ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT I know and recognize that participation in the Competition Cheer Squad try-out(s) at Tougaloo College is done on a completely voluntary basis without compulsion or coercion, and is not a mandatory class requirement. I know that the Competition Cheer Squad may prove to be inherently dangerous and hazardous sporting activities. I know that I should not participate unless I am medically able and properly trained. I also know that, although despite proper training, and proper physical conditioning, by participating in these sport(s), I am subjecting myself to probable injury. I assume the risk of participating in such sport(s), including travel to and from any try-out events, and being in or near the area of participation. I also assume any and all risk associated with these sport(s), including, but not limited to, falls, collisions with other participants, the effects of weather, including high heat and/or humidity, and the condition of the playing surface, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. I recognize that Tougaloo College may not provide certified or experienced coaches, trainers, and medical personnel and thus, I will not rely on such counsel, advice or services. I agree to abide by all decisions of those who oversee the athletic squad try- out(s), and I attest that I will not participate in such athletic event or sports unless 1 am physically and medically fit and sufficiently trained to participate. If I misrepresent, in any way, that I am medically able and fully and properly trained in order to participate, I fully assume all risks as a result of my participation. I have read and understand all of the requirements and regulations regarding the Tougaloo College Cheer tryouts and I agree to abide by them. I also agree to abide by the decisions of any judges involved in the tryout process, as well as the decisions of the Tougaloo College Cheer coach and/or advisor. CHEERLEADING REQUIREMENTS I. TRYOUT ELIGIBILITY A) CURRENT TC STUDENT: Proof of insurance and GPA. B) CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR OR TRANSFER STUDENT: 1. Candidates who have been accepted to Tougaloo College or 2. Have submitted an application and plan to attend for the 2013-2014 Academic School Year: Proof of insurance and GPA II. MATERIAL/SCHEDULE A) All candidates will be responsible for the following material: JUMPS: MUST be able to perform at least TWO JUMPS (Examples of jumps include: Toe-Touch, Double Hook, Tuck, Hurdler, Pike, Herkie, Double Nine, etc.) TUMBLING MOVES: Preferably be able to perform at least ONE TUMBLING MOVE. (Examples of tumbling moves include: round offs, back handsprings, front tucks, layouts, standing tumbling, back walkovers, Standing Tumbling: standing backhandspring, standing back-tuck, toe touch back tuck, standing back-handspring tuck Running Tumbling: -Layout or Full.) COMBINATION: Should be able to do at least ONE combination of two jumps with one tumbling move nonstop. (Examples include: a double toe-touch with a roundoff backhand spring, a Herkie, a toe-touch and a standing back tuck) MUST be able to learn Cheer and Dance. B) The tryout schedule will be held at Tougaloo College Health and Wellness Center Gymnasium. ( subject to change) Dates/Times: (Meeting August 24, 2013 at 8:00 a.m.) Tryout Clinic - SAT. August 24, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. TRYOUTS SAT August 24, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. III. ATTIRE/SAFETY AWARENESS A) Candidates should wear bike shorts or cotton shorts (not loose or baggy), T-shirts or bra tops and tennis or aerobic-type shoes to all tryout clinics, practices and the actual tryout. Hair should be tied back or pinned away from the face. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED AT TRYOUTS or PRACTICES! B) Candidates are to practice ONLY those stunts authorized by the Tougaloo College Cheer coach/advisor. Anyone violating these rules will not be allowed to stunt for the remainder of that session. IV. ELIGIBILITY - (for candidates chosen for the 2013-14 TC squad) A) Each squad member must maintain a minimum semester and cumulative GPA of 2.00 in order to remain eligible to cheer. B) Each squad member must enroll in a minimum of 12 units per semester C) Each squad member MUST be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the college D) Each squad member MUST have completed a physical (Date required will be - September 27, 2013) E) If I am a first year student or transfer student entering the college, I must meet the admission requirements of the college. F) If I am selected, I must grant permission to release my semester and cumulative grades to Cheer Advisor and Athletic Director for as long as I am a member. G) Each squad member MUST submit two letters of recommendations by September 27, 2013.
H) Each squad member MUST understand that judge(s) decisions are FINAL. V. GENERAL POLICIES A) The competition cheerleaders will participate in different fundraisers to raise the funds necessary for uniforms and competitions. B) Each squad member must abide by rules and regulations as outlined in the Tougaloo College Student Handbook. C) All partner stunts, pyramids or basket-tosses of any kind will be regulated by the Tougaloo College Cheer coach and/or advisor and will comply with the regulations. A SQUAD MEMBER NOT ADHERING TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS SET FORTH WILL IMMEDIATELY BE DISMISSED FROM THE CHEER SQUAD. D) Seniority, behavior and attendance of practice, games and promotions will all be determining factors in choosing who will go to any away games we are requested to be at or any tournaments.
VI. TIME OBLIGATIONS A) This is Tougaloo College s first competition squad; thus the Summer\Fall Practices for the 2013-2014 Tougaloo College Cheer squad are TBA B) Competition Schedule information are TBA VII. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION A) As a member of the Tougaloo College Cheer Squad, you may have to cheer at some of the men s and/or women s basketball games during half time. If sideline cheerleaders are unavailable, you may also be requested to cheer at the games in additional to performing at half time. B) You will participate in or assist with fund-raisers, and special engagements that may be requested by the Tougaloo College Athletic Department. C) Your current cheer coach/advisor may be called as a reference. I have read and understood all that is contained in this tryout packet for the 2013-2014 cheerleading season.
