Deep Ellum Complete Street Projects Project Background N 2006 - Task Force created to develop a Vision for Deep Ellum community; 2006 Task Force envisioned (1) improved traffic flow that respects pedestrian and bicycle traffic; (2) streetscaping amenities; and (3) improved sidewalks for sidewalk cafes. 2006 Bond Funds were earmarked to calm traffic in the corridor and convert Elm and Commerce from one-way to two-way operation 2012 City Council action to approve the Elm and Commerce Street two-way operation. 4

Complete Streets Design Manual The City of Dallas adopted a Complete Streets Manual January 27, 2016 directing all roadway projects to design and build streets that are safe and comfortable for everyone: all ages and abilities; motorists and bicyclists; pedestrians and wheelchair users; bus and train riders alike. 6
The Case for Bike Lanes 1. City of Dallas adopted the Bike Plan in 2011 to promote cycling as a viable transportation modal choice. 2. Research has shown that dedicated bicycle facilities can: Have positive impacts on local businesses Increase property values Provide greater mobility options Improve personal health 7
