The Boise State men s basketball team will have a chance to reach their goal of posting its second consecutive 2-win season as the Broncos have accepted a bid to participate in the 29 College Basketball Invitational (CBI). We are excited to play at Stanford in the College Basketball Invitational, said Boise State Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier. This is a great opportunity for our team to play in the post season and I know our players are looking forward to the challenge. The Broncos (9-2, 9-7 WAC) will travel to the Bay Area to take on Stanford (8-3, 6-2 Pac- ), Wednesday, March 8, at 8 p.m. (MT) during the opening round of play. This will mark the first meeting between the two schools. We are excited about playing in the post season and the opportunity to play Stanford, added Boise State Head Coach Greg Graham. There are a lot of good teams across the country this year, and the CBI gives a lot of great teams the chance to play in postseason. The College Basketball Invitational was created to give deserving teams who have been left out of the NCAA Tournament to continue playing and be a part of the postseason environment. The Pacific- Conference will be busy during post season play, as nine of the Conference s teams will be participating in the post season in some way... The Pac- had a total of six teams selected to participate in the 29 NCAA Men s Basketball Tournament: Arizona, Arizona State, California, UCLA, USC (Pac- Tournament Champions) and Washington (Pac- Regular Season Champions). Washington State received a bid to participate in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). Both Oregon State and Stanford will play host during the opening round of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). Note that the only Pac- school not acting as a participant in post season play is Oregon. However, the Ducks will be hosting the First and Second Rounds of the 29 NCAA Men s Basketball Tournament in Portland, Ore., at the Rose Garden. 28-9 Pac- Standings Overall Pac- Washington 25-8 4-4 UCLA 25-8 3-5 Arizona State 24-9 -7 California 22- -7 Arizona 9-3 9-9 USC 2-2 9-9 Washington State 7-5 8- Oregon State 3-7 7- Stanford 8-3 6-2 Oregon 8-23 2-6 About the Stanford Cardinal... Stanford, which secured a winning record for the 6th consecutive season and notched at least 8 victories for the third year in a row, enters the postseason having won three of its last five overall. Recent victories during that stretch included a 74-64 road upset at No. 2/2 Arizona State and a 75-63 rout of Pac- Tournament champion USC. The Cardinal finished non-conference play - and also posted impressive victories over No. 22/23 California (75-69) on Jan. 7, Northwestern (65-59) on Dec. 2 and Arizona (76-6) on Jan. 4. The Cardinal began their season with an impressive -game winning streak against non-conference opponents. While Stanford may own an overall record of 8-3, all 3 losses came to Pac- opponents. On the season, the Cardinal are own a perfect - record against schools outside of the Pacific- Conference. Even more impressive is that the Cardinal are 3-4 when playing on their home floor. Leading the way for the Cardinal is senior Anthony Goods, who averages 6.3 points per game as he makes 4.3 percent of his shots from the floor... Stanford has two other players averaging in double-digits as Lawrence Hill averages 3.3 points, while Landry Fields records 2.7 points per game... Defensively, look for Fields to dominate on the boards as he pulls down 6.7 rebounds per game and has recorded a team-high 38 steals this season. Seniors Anthony Goods and Lawrence Hill received all-conference honors for the second time in their careers while Jeremy Green earned a spot on the Pac- All-Freshman Team, highlighting Stanford s selections among the 28-9 Pac- men s basketball award winners. Both Goods and Hill received Honorable Mention recognition, with Goods receiving the honor for the second straight season and Hill adding to his All-Pac- honor from two years ago. Goods is averaging a team-best 5.7 points per game to go along with 3.3 rebounds per game. He has led the Cardinal in scoring on 2 different occasions, registered a career-best seven 2-point games while scoring in double-figures 26 times. An All-Pac- honoree two years ago, Hill ranks second on the club in scoring (3.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg) and has scored in double-figures in 2 contests. Stanford s first All-Freshman selection since Brook Lopez in 27, Green is averaging 5.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 29 contests. Green has quickly developed a reputation as one of Stanford s most dangerous three-point shooters, connecting on 38-85 (44.7 percent) chances from beyond the arc. By the Numbers... Based on Boise State s stellar performance in 27-8,which included school records in wins (25) and road victories (2), he was named WAC Coach of the Year and the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 3 Coach of the Year.
