SOUTH TEXAS TAEKWONDO DISTRICT OF THE AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION OF THE UNITED STATES Dear Masters, Instructors, Coaches, and Athletes, Greetings, I d like to take this opportunity to invite you and your school to the South Texas District Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Taekwondo Championship. The South Texas District Championship will be offering competition in Forms, Point Sparring, and Olympic Style Sparring competition. Persons who place first through eighth will have the opportunity to represent Texas at the AAU National Championships and the prestigious AAU Junior Olympic Games. Our tournament will be held on April 5 th at Wagner High School, 3000 N. Foster Road, San Antonio TX 78244. Preregistration is highly encouraged; if you register at the door a late fee will be assessed. This tournament promises to be an event where everyone leaves with a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. You need to be a part of the AAU. If you re unfamiliar with the AAU TKD program I want you to know that the AAU recognizes traditional Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do and Moo Duk Kwan patterns, poomses, and hyungs. The AAU also offers your advanced students and instructors a professional tournament official s certification program and also offers a professional coach s certification program in which students and non-students alike may participate. Participants are encouraged to visit the AAU web site www.aausports.org to obtain their membership. The AAU also offers you and your students an Optional Dan Certification Program. A great option for independent school owners seeking nationally recognized ranking in Tae Kwon Do which includes Kuk Ki Won certification. Traditional Forms Rules 1. Students must perform traditional form at or below their level. 2. Uniforms must be neat with sleeves below the elbows. 3. Uniforms must be white. Optional Equipment a) Protective eyewear b) Athletic tape NOTE: White cloth athletic tape may be worn to support previously injured appendages as well as to help protect any uninjured areas from becoming injured. Areas allowed to be taped include: fingers, thumb, wrist and toes. This tape may be wrapped no more than two times around the appendage, and cannot be used in such way as to prevent or severely restrict the movement thereof ATTENTION ALL PARENTS, ATHLETES, INSTRUCTORS: A.A.U. Taekwondo is going with the new 12-14 yrs old Cadet Division NOW. All qualifiers will provide and utilize this new age division at their qualifiers. REMINDER: 12-14 yrs old will fight JUNIOR SAFETY RULES through and during the National Championship. The top four will qualify for Team Trials at which they will compete under International (knock out) rules. 14 yrs old who qualify for Nationals MUST compete 15-17 yrs old at Nationals if it is their intent to attend Team Trials and try to make National A.A.U. Team. IF they stay in the 12-14 yrs old division they are ineligible for Team Trials. The same stipulation applies for 17 yrs old. IF they wish to make Senior National Team they must compete as a Senior at Nationals and win GOLD. If they stay with the 14-17 yrs old they are ineligible to attend Team Trials. Master Mike Friello
